1. Everglaze - for mill glaze conspiracy !

Lol...Thats it!! Lol. I remember the debates about that where Ev was saying the mill glaze was a myth pretty much. The mill glaze was coming from the blade that cuts the wood. Since Ev didn't really buy into the Mill Glaze conspiracy you nicknamed him Everglaze... Classic!!

  2. As I suspected...

Everyone needs to hear the entire backstory behind his RCIA departure....

Ok so what's Billy Booze's story then? I never heard of him until it was announced he was running for a ***** BOD slot. I also heard that he had a few people confused at the VOLA RT about the *****'s Free memberships. That's the first time I heard that mentioned and to this day I still don't understand what exactly is that. Charlie Soden is here on TGS as is Chris Apple saying the ***** has over 300 members now. None of it is making sense.

Maybe we should start with Billy Booze. What's his story with the RCIA? Maybe once we hear that we can get a better understanding as to what he's doing with the ***** Certifications.

  3. Sidebar note as per Conversation with Robert today--Here is the PWNA BOD's the first year I served. This was at a PWNA Convention in Dallas around 2004/2005. That Sport Jacket was given to me from Rod Rodriguez because they wanted us in Suit jackets for this picture. I think I only owned one then and I didn't bring it. If you can zoom in you will see my shoes. I walked a mile plus in the snow every day to be at this Convention because I was to naive to book in the room block.

I look back on this and I wish then we had been more involved with BMP's.

Today I am happy to serve with my fellow PWNA Enviro chairpersons even though its been challenging already. If its not a challenge then what's the point:biggrin:

  4. Thanks guy, I didn't realize how much bigger it is from my other box truck. This one is 16 foot with tuck away lift gate, my other one is 14 foot with fold up lift gate

Sweet trucks Matt? I have a feeling you made some good wood in my neck of the woods "Strong Island" :cool-new:

  5. Is Matt showing his Johnson ?

Lol..Diamond Jim is our creative quotes master..lol I see this and I'm trying to remember what Jim labeled Everet with.. Everready, Everlast, It was all good natured fun.. Jimbo what was it you use to call Everett again yrs ago on the net?

  6. Guy a couple of questions:

1- How many training hours does a person need to have if there a newbie and they want to take the ***** Certification test?

2- How does the ***** determine if let's say a person has 2 yrs in this Industry and also 20hrs training time then how is it determined that they can now qualify to take this test?

3- How does the ***** determine if let's say 4 hrs training from an ACR event that's documented compare to an NCE event that may also have a 4hr documented training session? Are all these hours counted equally?

  7. Tell me something, these "certificates" everyone is speaking of (this goes out to both PWNA and *****): Do they have a manual of sorts? Usually before you take a test your given a book or manual that tells all of the answers that might be asked on the test. It is designed to teach and educate those who may or may not know (in this case) about roof cleaning. In basic terms; where is the teaching material? Giving someone a certificate that's been doing it for X amount of years is just plain dumb. They already know how to roof clean cause they experienced in it. It's the newbies (like myself) that need this knowledge I would love to attend classes that teach me exactly how to roof wash any kind of roof.I ain't talking about some crash course, I'm talking about in-depth cleaning. This way I can literally say "Yes I do roofs", and have the knowledge to do it correctly with-out the guess work.

Here is my advice to both orgs. If your going to give out certificates and make people take tests then have the manuals made to back it up. Both orgs are filled with professional power washers and I know with that much knowledge a manual could be made. Then and only then will I fully believe that a "certificate" has a merit.

There were manuals in the past for the PWNA certifications. I had one for both there wood restoration Certification and a few yrs later I had one for there Environmental Certification.

This yr I went to the PWNA Convention and took there Environmental Certification class where literature was handed out and then after this class I took there Environmental Certification test. You have to be a PWNA member to take these Certification test..

As for the manual Kris I'm going to say something here that sometimes I hate expressing some of my idea's on the net because the inevitable beat down that happens. I don't mind the beat downs when it's something worth fighting for and this one isn't but here it is.

You right manuals are indeed important. Just like MSDS sheets are important to have ready available. Different reason but important never the less.

If I was on a PWNA,***** or any org committee concerning Certifications there indeed should be manuals for all certification classes and test. You put them in a PDF file form so there is very minimal cost to them for the org members to get. Then from there the org member who pays for this gets it released to him where he can now download it and copy it on his printer. I would have a cover page, a table of contents page, all the chapter pages and then a back page in this PDF with the org logo's on every page. There would be pics etc.

Now from here you study it and take the test. This manual can go in your truck near by where let's say you keep your MSDS sheets. It's always there where you can access it at any time to look up something that your about to do..

This idea just came to me because of what you just posted... Watch my back brother:)

  8. OSHA certification is ANSI-certified and government-recognized.

That's what makes them have weight. Most other certifications in this industry are more of marketing ploy for your company. The one question I would have with some of these industry type Certifications is what happens on a lawsuit specifically civil. Are the groups giving them out bonded? That's the only leg they have to stand on. OSHA on the other hand is backed by what you said.

Certifications can be a dangerous business to be involved in because the group that is giving them out are only backed by that group and they best be bonded because like in any business it just takes one lawsuit and bang...

  9. Hey Mike- I actually advertise for yrs on my website my free Basama(might be mispelled) Certification that actually updated every yr. It was a 10 question online test which there was no way to get anything wrong. This was an Enviro certificate that originated near the Sanfrancisco area in Cali.

I also had a PWNA enviro Certification that I took at my local library. This was cool. It was orchestrated by Pete Marentey who the library was involved and they actually timed me to take this test. I couldn't cheat believe it or not.

I barely passed that test. That PWNA certification was good for aprox 2 yrs..

Of course I didn't push hard enough to get enviro work but between the 2 it was probably $200 or so to have them.

I almost (almost suck) got a major NYC parking garage after hurricane Sandy hit. The PWNA forwarded my current Enviro Certification to me to pass on into the city. I almost(almost suck) got this garage but what held me back from getting it is my company has ZERO OSHA training.. That OSHA training is on my list next.

  10. The more votes you represent the more they pay attention to you. Good Ole American Way.

"Aint that the truth" that's why we need proper representation down the road.

Internet discussion are great but the reality of them is no one is going to accept these discussions as a way to get the powers to be to do anything or even recognize us at all. Looking forward to having open discussions with these EPA type people down the road starting with the Vegas Parking Garage Event.

  11. While reviewing links on the PWNA's current environmental page related to Updated BMP Documents 2011 I noticed that there is different content for the various format versions of the BMP. (this creates confusion , especially when the word doc is compared to the pdf versions, the filtering requirements are different as I mentioned earlier (initially I had not realized that the doc I found on the web was still current to the PWNA's website), the powerpoint version does not open in powerpoint but rather is a copy of the pdf version (they both have the same web link).

Robert, Post #4 and #5 made in thread seem to be following the pdf versions of the 2011 Updated BMP's , but not in order, this creates some confusion to followers, after your post #2 which ended with Always Filter Waste Water, the next review topic should be Waste Water Capture (lower portion of page 7 in pdf version of BMP document).

I suggest streamlining the current environmental page BMP web links discrepancies on the PWNA website and identiy in no uncertain terms what is the screen mesh suggested requirement, also when identifying mesh sizes always reference the equivalent micron size.

Lets continue from page 7 ?

Excellent points Nigel. I looked at these BMP's in the past but I haven't really studied them as of yet. It's on my list.

Hey fast question. Why do you suppose it is that for snow/ice purposes it's OK to lay salt brine down on the roads which most of it will travel down the storm drains if it has dissolved first(probably still end up down the storm drain) and yet our waste water is a total no no to let it pour down a storm drain? Do you think because of the safety factor here where salt/brine can save lives makes it where they get more of a free pass then we do?

What's are some thoughts as to why this is?

  12. Jeremy Kiefer's Trailer Rig was just stolen. This was posted on PWRA' bulletin board. Jeremy just recently hosted the Huntsville Alabama RT which might ring a bell for the ones who don't know Jeremy. On stuff like this we stick together so pass this post around to wherever PW sites you go to and if you happen to notice some of his equipment or something very similar popping up for sale on Craigslist,EBay etc contact Jeremy.

    " Trailer rig stolen

Guys, my trailer with equipment was stolen Sunday night. If you would watch the video and keep an eye out for any items someone is selling in your area on Craigslist or pawn shops. Big ticket items was a Pressure Pro Hot Water 5.5 gpm skid with a horizontal burner and vanguard engine. Also had an 8gpm machine with a 13hp Honda motor cold unit on it. The other big ticket item was a wheelbarrow type orange Rigid air compressor with dual tanks and I think a 5 hp Honda motor. Here is the video and please let me know if you see or know anything.

  13. One other thing to point out would be that one snow preparation event by a state, county, city or municipality is far wore than what a group of power washers could do in a year...........

Another good point.... There seems to be different standards set by the EPA which is why there most likely are lobbyist involved. Case in point- AUTOMOBILES- there's got to be more pollution caused by them then probably anything on this planet but you know there a powerful group with lobbyist etc etc etc. So that tells me instead of looking the other way and acting like no one ever gets fined for Powerwashing especially when your talking about the larger jobs out there must be something we can do.

Suggestion would be to find a way inside to these EPA types and figure out what makes them tick. Why is there one standard such as dealing with salt brine possibly and dealing with Powerwashing runoff seam to be so different.

Another reason why I want to see some of these EPA people up close and personal at the Vegas Parking Garage event because personally Mike-- we can all post about this on the net which is educational of course but besides that where does it get us in having maybe a leg up in possibly making the EPA be more understanding into what we do??

We can run but we can't hide so the road to success is to eventually deal with them as a group. In that group where going to need people who are intellects who can back up what their saying because we already know this is going to be an uphill battle no matter what when dealing with anything that involves the EPA.

  14. Intro:

I have recently joined the PWNA and I have accepted a position to be part of its Environmental Committee. For those that know me (810F250 forums id), my initial industry focus is/was pressure cleaning equipment and systems, the last two years focusing on existing wash water requirements within my immediate areas of Maryland, along with industry wash water disposal/capture and pre-treatment technologies . Unfortunately I am unable to say I know the entire history of the PWNA or every detailed aspect of these bmp's, however I am offering my input as power wash service provider, PWNA member; I am open to learning, my hope is to make a valuable contribution.

    BMP comments:(Reviewing post 1 to 3 )

Cosmetic cleaning defined on page 2 of the CITY OF FORT WORTH ENVIRONMENT CODE CHAPTER 12.5 ARTICLE III - STORMWATER PROTECTION document http://water.epa.gov/polwaste/nps/upload/nps-ordinanceuments-fort-worth-sw.pdf

Cosmetic cleaning means cleaning done for cosmetic purposes. It does

not include industrial cleaning, cleaning associated with manufacturing

activities, hazardous or toxic waste cleaning, or any cleaning otherwise

regulated under federal, state, or local laws.

From Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 122.2 Definitions: Process wastewater means any water which, during manufacturing or processing, comes into direct contact with or results from the production or use of any raw material, intermediate product, finished product, byproduct, or waste product.

Some contractors have an issue with the term "Cosmetic Cleaning" and believe the term "Cosmetic Cleaning" does not holistically (or adequately) reflect our power washing/pressure cleaning service offering, lets discuss this, what could be recommended.

The link listed in the pics Robert H " http://www.epa.gov/nps/ordinance/documents/forthworthsw.pdf " does not work , however there is this related page Model Ordinances to Prevent and Control Nonpoint Source Pollution | Polluted Runoff | US EPA (updated 10/17/2012)

I found this older pictured PWNA/***** BMP document on the web here BMP-Cosmetic-Cleaning dated 8/3/2011; reading the bottom of page 3 to the top of page 4 , it identifies filtering through a 20 mesh (which is approximately 841 microns, according to US Forestry mesh to micron web page : the current PWNA document under review mentions 200 mesh which is 74 microns. I also remember some of the older videos with the vacuum sludge filtering system, mentioning 200 micron for pre-treatment discharge to sanitary. With all this info out there , which is the requirement?

I'm in trouble already:) Nigel Congrats in joining the PWNA and I'm honored to serve with you on this committee. Nothing like surrounding myself with a few brains and you rank very high in that Dep't. Many of us are going to learn alot between you and the rest of the PWNA enviro committee. I'm learning already by just what you posted--Thanks!

  15. I have a question with respect to run off. The reason that I bring this up and maybe this is not the correct section, but it certainly applies to AHJ's with respect to these BMP's that we talk about.

Many states, counties, cities and municipalities apply Salt Brine prior to snow storms as a way of "preventing" snow from icing onto road surfaces with the snow. When these brine trucks go out with their 2500 gallon tanks and run all over applying this to the roadways, at some point, this is going to end up going down the drain into the storm drains which lead back into the waterways of the states, counties, cities and municiaplities. Over a state, I would imagine that millions of gallons of this stuff is applied.

How can an AHJ who applies this highly corrosive substance in mass quantities with Zero run off control to the roadways and eventually the waterways claim that a power washer is causing harm?? How can they enforce against someone what they are in direct violation of themselves?? This seems like what is good for the goose needs to be good for the gander. If not how can one take these people seriously??

Mike we talked about this in the past and these are the type questions I would love to see answered. At our Vegas Parking Garage Event since where going to have these EPA Guys in the conference room your question would be a good one but of course does it ever really snow in Vegas??

Maybe we need to bring this show to Atlantic City next year and see where these EPA types stand on the East Coast because once again your question comes to mind. I wonder since there's safety concerns about snowfall and Black Ice here if that factors in to what's allowed and what's not? Good question.

  16. My guess is Everett Abrams a past PWNA president and owner of Deck Restoration Plus. Around Late 90's early 2000 he was the first I recall using this term for his events. He also used to have on average the largest Roundtable events until Tom & Barbara from ACR started theirs.

Does anyone recall before Everett who was holding get togethers that were called Roundtables in this industry?

  17. A True legend in our Industry in David Olson who passed away Dec 22 2011. A little over a year ago. He was married to his HS Sweetheart for almost 50 yrs and David passed away around 69yrs young. He was a legend and is missed.

The pictures with all the people was at the biggest Roundtable I ever attended which was the NC Roundtable hosted by Celeste and Roger and with Beth/Rod helping them to set it all up.

The circle picture is at that time one past PWNA Treasurer talking to a future PWNA Treasurer(Me wearing my white PWNA Hat) and we talked and talked and talked almost the whole time at this RT. It was memorable and I'll never forget it.

This other Picture is of the Babe Ruth family honoring David right after he passed. Never forget the ones who helped you. David helped me tremendously.

    He is missed.

  18. As long as the ground doesn't freeze under me, i'll go til I cant anymore.

But then again, our winters only last about 45 minutes around here.

You New Yorkers are just plain crazy, but , you already knew that.

    Have a great weekend.

Lol.. You got to have people think your crazy with 10,000,000 of us all around each other where I'm at:onthego:

    [

  19. In our case the freezing temperature is our cutoff point. If it's going to hit 32 degrees or lower within 3 hours of doing an outside job then we'll reschedule. Had some bad experiences in the past including freezing up a long walkway around 6am in the morning where by 8am it was going to be a zoo. Luckily no one got hurt there..

What's your cutoff temp when you say it's time to reschedule?
