  1. If thats a ground floor deck yes there could be a moisture air problem. I had a couple of decks over the years where they were ground floor and we had issues with not only the deck taking forever to dry but the stain itself did not dry correctly. Thats what it looks like now in your picture.

Its rare this happens but every now and then we all run into this problem if we do enough decks.

  2. My good Buddy Rob Huffman who was also on the cover of the Cleaner Times at least once as well. Here's a picture of him on a cover shot when he was doing the free cleaning of the Lincoln Memorial with a bunch of others while he was with the www.pwna.org

Who would ever think the Cleaner Times would put me and Rob on seperate cover shots years apart when where both "Rough and Tumble" type of dudes??? My guess on this is because....WE CARE!!

  3. I think about this alot. Can we do another Large Volunteer job that could involve orgs or just powerwashers without any affiliations. Personally I am leaning towards involving orgs/associations.

In the past the PWNA was involved with cleaning the baseball hall of fame stadium in Cooperstown NY as well as cleaning the Lincoln Memorial in DC.

I keep eying places in NY city in my area that are historical.

Anywhere in anyplace USA this could happened. Who would be interested in this and what idea's would you have?

  4. Yes I agree with Jim. AC products are excellent but unless their applied correctly like any other stain should be there could be problems.

Prep work could be called into question here as well as the weather when it was applied such as was the wood in direct sunlight and was it extremely hot when the stain was applied.

The odds of AC having a bad batch of stain is just about slim to none.

  5. Keep getting the most you can. Buy more trucks. Get the better equipment. Make your guys better and get them to be as efficient as possible.

How many jobs can your company do. What if you had 3 more trucks. Can you book 80 jobs a week and still be out 2 weeks. You will lose money if you are booked more than 10 days.

Big decisions if you want to get the most in a month.

What is the most your company can do in 1 month?

    Great Post Brian.

In my company setup we bring on some par timers when we get overloaded. Had 2 part timers working with us for 2 weeks so far recently. I have some huge jobs lined up down the road where I need to bring in upwards to 3-4 more part timers.

With that being said, I pay my 2 full-time guys year round so I don't buy anymore then the 2 trucks and 2 trailers I have because I'm not convinced I can keep guys busy enough year round.

Maybe I'm not that big of a risk taker.

  6. AC & Bakers are also very good stains. Many of us have Met the creator of A/C who is of course the one and only Jake Clark. Aces I'm everyone's books. I believe Shane here uses Bakers and he's a master at it. You should see his work. Off tue charts beautiful.

We even had the pleasure quite a few time to meet Pierce Fitchet(can't spell his last name my apologies) who created Ready Seal.

As for Tracy.. He is a passionate dude who stained decks himself and he wanted you to know how well Ready Seal works. He loves the stuff as do many others.

But as I say to people in this Industry "if your mind is made up...it's made up" and we go from there.

  7. Tracy,

The only contact that I have had with you now is 2 pms from you and now this reply all vaguely pitching your product.

You have now excluded yourself from ever receiving an order of any kind from me. I also would like no further pms or replys from you in my topics since all they are, are sales posts.

Tracy Handl knows what he's talking about. I seen Tracy at quite a few PWNA Conventions and other Industry events. He's taught wood restoration classes along with demonstrating equipment. If you met Tracy you would like him as everyone that I know does.

He's probably selling Ready Seal stain which some contractors swear by. You can't buy that Stain in any big box type store since it's for contractors only and it's contractor grade.

Do a search here on TGS about Ready Seal and you'll probably find mostly good stories about it.

  8. Matt-I wouldn't suggest doing work on other people's property with no insurance for all the obvious reasons. If something goes wrong you'll be personally held liable and its against the law to operate a business with no insurance which if a homeowner reports you to the consumer affairs division in your town you could be facing a large Fine. Not worth the risk.

  9. Am I the only one getting off to an extremely slow start this year? Honestly the phone is barely ringing. I talked to a friend of mine in this area who owns a rather large painting company that has only done one exterior job.

Besides weather being an issue for many, you may want to check your website to see if it's still searching well. Google has switched up on a few things that have hurt some peoples rankings. Also with so many new websites out there, the competition on the net has magnified. SEO is more important now then ever when it comes to websites.

  10. We have a payroll service as well but my wife is taking that over in the next quarter. I pay $225 a month to my payroll company and she can do it with quickbooks for $28 a month. Do you use QuickBooks for your company. Just something to think about.

We were also paying through the nose for our Workers Comp and requested and audit. They were basing it on a ridiculous amount. It should go down a lot now that we finished the audit.

Hey John-- we use Paychex and because of my PWRA discount we get I believe up to 10 employees for $39/month for all. Paychex figures everything out and then sends us the paystubs via email. All my wife has to do is sign the checks-- Done;)
