My question is why if they are so involved with actually covering cleaners did they dump all of thier KEC clients?
The underwriters didn't want to insure hood cleaning anymore from what I was told on that just recently when I talked to them on the phone about WC insurance in NY.

Hey Jason-- a little tip.... If your using an oil base stain make sure it's nowhere near freezing at night or you may have problems. Like Jim says, in our area you want to get to May for staining. The horrid call backs you can get because the stain didn't cure correctly do to freezing is not worth the headache.

thanks for the reply John, what I'm asking is when mixing powder, and the ratio is oz's per gallon is that oz's by weight or volume?
Weight. Ounces is a messages of weight.
-
In this Industry, when dealing with mixes it's generally ounces to gallon ratio's.howdy ya'll,
great place here with TONS of info. sure this probably a stupid question for some.
if you buy product X by the gallon and use an 8oz. per gallon ratio no problem
but if you buy product X in a one pound box of powder, is the 8 oz per gallon ratio, 8 oz. by weight or by volume?
clear as mud eh?
TIA,

Good point Brian if only could get past security in there. We'll keep working on companies like this and we'll take any work we can get. Even if it's for a couple of hours. Thanks for the tip:)

Jim welcome to the volunteering world.. you get asked to do alot and your coming thru big from what I am hearing. Those are some amazing benefits your posting about.
That website page for each contractor on the PWNA website is going to be huge for my business. I already am using Cullen http://longisland.pressurewashing.net/ to get my company higher on the search engines and Anya from http://www.uniqueamb.com/ who not only built my website last year www.cleancounty.com she is also going to do the SEO for us on a monthly bases. Rap that into the www.PWNA.org webpage for my company I should have the net part of my company in good hands.
Keep up the good work:)

100,000 for few weeks of pw what?
It's a parking garage, and tons of walkways. Probably a buck and half can be had on this job since around 10yrs ago a contractor did all this work for the hundred grand and it was knocked out in 2 weeks then.
-
We haven't started yet because the weather has been to harsh. I'm bunching up bookings for 2 weeks from now so my guys can go out for full days. We don't do partial days and if we do I pay in full to my guys for a days work.
So today I hit a few commercial establishments to solicit work. I hated every second of it especially when some security guards wouldn't even let me through 2 of these places. There high end but my goal is to crack these places. One of them pays aprox $100,000+ for just a few weeks of Powerwashing. It's getting to the facility operators is the problem.
My wife on the other hand was working the phones and calling as far as SD Cali to get the phone numbers we need here. It's a work in progress and if I ever figure out how to crack these places maybe I'll do a class on it at a reputable event because this one is alot tricker then it seems especially when I'm chasing the bigger paying jobs at this stage of the game.

I wonder if you have a fire cleaning a hood God forbid, if your insurance would cover you? Just because ones have liability insurance you have to read the fine writing to see what they cover. This is why I like JW insurance because they clearly spell out what your covered for.Thats the usual Alexy KEC is the night crew and quite litterly in the dark, from our tools to insurance we always have to fabricate to attapt it to our business. We make our own tools and gear and insurance companies put us in janitor sections of there insurance. Our line of work is very much left in the dark. Its amazing such an important and regulated trade is one of the least reconized.

Congrats Beth. You have always been a respected Individual and a valuable commodity to this Industry. I remember it well when you spoke in Dallas at the PWNA Convention around 2004 about marketing during that session when they were judging who had the best presentation contest....... Which of course you won:) You pretty much swept the awards that year.
You know that CETA/Issa event might be right before or after the PWNA Convention in Orlando... Very cool. Maybe I'll treck it out there and catch both events again like I did in 2012.

I seen all the Mole & Jersey shows except for the last 2. Hope to watch those this week. There a bit cutting edge which I always liked and there by far the most entertaining "Industry related" show I ever seen.
There also open to discuss most anything that's Industry related which is very cool but like anything else, "You can please some of the people some of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time".
They Rock:)

Jim- I wish I could see you coming up in that session your doing In AC with Everett.
The next best thing is if the Mole &Jersey show looked to interview you for their show. Your one of the very few wood restoration artist I know of in the Northeastern seaboard. If you lived in Long Island you could be the go to guy in the Hampton's for the caretakers of Paul McCartney, Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pit etc. to keep their Hampton wood sided houses in pristine condition.
You sure know your wood!!

Beautiful work Tim!! I bet those chairs are going to look unbelievable after their stained. If you think about it post the finish pics of those chairs after you stain them.

We've been losing power off and on for the last 3 days. It's 11°F and feels like 0° with the wind chill. Tonight's low will be -5°F without the wind chill. We have about 2' of snow on the ground. Before this last storm that dropped a foot, snow total so far was 173.5". Won't be done until April. Last year it snowed into May.
Been a rough one.
We are hoping we don't need our generator.
Beth
I could see you 2 snowbirding down the road. Especially you Ryan. 173.5" of snow so far--Thats sick.
When I get my FLA house down the road I may make it party central for guys like yourself to come sit in the sun in the smack of winter....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:)

Hey Beth-- I'm hating snow so much that when my kids are out I'm definitely going to snowbird. Hello FLA!

We work on marketing in the dead of the winter such as now and we set goals for this upcoming year. I also tweak some of the equipment to get everything ready to roll once it's warm enough and the phone takes off.

Hey Tom-- I was in the mid 40's then and your right Memphis was in 06. I'm not that active in the PWNA as much as I use to but I was told that I am the only member who request their minutes every month so I can stay abreast of what's going on with my membership dollars. Good stuff coming out with them soon.
As for Epoxy floors go the best way to find out who does that is to start a separate post on here and maybe a few other bulletin boards to see who excels at that and go from there. For some odd reason I think Everett Abrams does epoxy coatings but I may be wrong on that. You could reach out to him to double check on that.
Either way I am not much help for you on this topic but the best of luck to you anyways on this.
What is the lowest temperature will you stain
