Bring in a sub and let them do the contract with the home owner for a % of the job. This will keep you out of the loop kind of like a finders/referal fee.

Looks great as usual Rick. Unfortunately we don't get IPE down here. At least I haven't seen any. -

Maybe we will see him on the next version of animal cops. Houston is on there all the time. -

Good for you Adrian. You will sleep better tonight because of what you did and the way you handled it. Second time you shut off the machine you should tell them your consulting fee is $150 per hour with a 2 hour minimum. At least in the middle of the job. -

You mean like closing their windows? LOL Not walking out their door when you are spraying the wall above them? Kids thinking it is a sprinkler? Things like that? -

xjet or dedicated pump with a 0040. Garden hose with a 0030 or 0040 to rinse. Oh and close the open window. -
Go to any computer store and get an external USB case for the hard drive and plug it into any other computer and pull your files. I did that with my laptop that the OS crashed on and now I use that drive for backups. Should run under $50

Is it ethical to....
TNRoofCleaner replied to plainpainter's question in Residential Pressure Washing
My deck warranty consists of what the manufacturer gives for their stain. I am out of the loop. I give 3 years on a roof cleaning algae only. Nothing on the siding but I do offer plexmaster on every cleaning. -
I haven't done it yet but I believe that after the staining you are going to have to apply a sealer also. Try giving these guys a call and ask for David. www.southernstainandseal.com They have been very helpful to me on the wood care but they also do concrete staining and are in the process of building a store.

Advice on this deck.
TNRoofCleaner posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I have an appointment to quote this deck. Homeowner flipped most of the boards but then was deployed. Wife has 5 little ones at home and no time to get it finished. They want it sealed before the rain makes it worse. The homeowner also started painting the rails with a primer. The deck itself I was thinking percarb and then oxalic. But the question I have is what to do with the primer. I would like to remove it and then use deckscapes ultrawhite as she wants a 2 tone finish with white railings. Should I use a sodium hydroxide stripper on this. Thanks in advance for any advice. Got the pic off the web as she posted needing help to finish. Got a house wash the other day this way also. -

Thanks I didn't know you needed the primer. That's why I love this site. Learn something every day. Thanks Dan I was incorrect in my assumptions. -

Can you put deckscapes solid stain over primer? Never mind I just read the deckscapes and they want to start with clean wood. -
Here are some pics of a gutter cleaning we completed today along with some repairs that needed to be done.

None of the above. I used Purple Power because I ran out of F13 and forgot to reorder. Picked it up at advanced auto. -
SOP would be like your procedure to clean gutters which would be one. 1. Visuall Inspection 2. Identify defects. etc etc etc end Deposit check. Step by step procedure for every service you offer. Like Adrian said find one service and write down each step from the time you show up to the time you leave. You now have a beginning SOP. Now look through that and see if there is a way you can improve on that procedure. Maybe more hose for the pressure washer or different chemicals. Could be new equipment or it could be a specific process that needs to change. For instance I am in the process of making a tool that I can hook to the end of my extention pole and just pull the debris to me. So far so good on a prototype. Cleaned 2 sections of gutter only setting the ladder 1 time each and reaching both directions. I can even get the debri under the brackets/nails. Time Management....LOL Wear a hat to keep you from pulling your hair out. That is a constant battle even for the experienced business person. If anyone thinks a business is a 8-5 time period they need to go get a job.

Hey Mike, Glad to see the light came on. You will get a lot of help here but you will be asked to read some as most of your questions have been answered. Nice to see the change as the posts are easier to read. Welcome to the world of business building.

I did some highlighting to help you. (I'm sure I missed some) Sentences start with capital letters. If you are not going to take the time to communicate correctly then how should I expect you to take the time to do a proper job? I can probably say this for everyone, no one is scared of you as competition. (I apologise to anyone that is afraid for being wrong on my assumption.) As a matter of fact you are needed to take up jobs that most of us would not do. You keep saying you are the best gutter cleaner in town. I hate to tell you this but there is nothing special about gutters. Setting the ladder is harder than cleaning the gutter. Suggestions have been given and you ignore them. First and best thing is to clean up the use of the English language. This is instant and free. If you ignore suggestions people are going to quit giving them. Your use of the language makes you come across as a backwoods, uneducated Appalachian hill billy. (left a few descriptors out) As long as you continue to portray yourself as such you will have to compete with the bottom dwellers for work and you will be worrying about the $99 deck washes all your life. You only get one chance to make a first impression. It's ok to talk to someone like a friend but remember these are not friends they are customers. If I called you and you talked to me like you have been posting I would not even set up an appointment for a quote. If I was in your area I wouldn't hire you because of that and I would not work for you as a sub because your pricing would be too low for me. I suggest that you go to the local library and read everything you can find on wood care or anything else you want to get into. I know this post sounds harsh but it needed to be worse. I hope you can take the criticism in a constructive way and make the changes suggested. I for one will not post anymore until I see the English cleaned up at least in the posting. I have other acquaintances in the area in the same line of work and I'm sure they are glad you are there to take the crap they don't want to do. Good luck to you.

Here are the rest of the Pics. While cleaning I noticed a great contrast and stopped and got some great shots. -
They can do nothing to you personally but if complaints go unanswered this can be a negative as far as you getting future work. Consumers rely on the BBB to get a sense of if they should hire a company or not. Negative marks or a lot of complaints will turn customers off.
