  1. Why, is there no mention of Wooddefender stain?. I find the stain to be goof proof and very easy to apply. Not to mention the cost and the Best Custmer service out there... next to Bob at pressure tex. Brent and Todd are really just a phone call away. If not available I have even called their personal cell phones.... Great guys.

Celeste... am I correct in saying you use WD regularly?

  2. Lou, I do not know the market there but WOW $500-600 dollars. I am moving there tomorrow. Here in Ga I would bid somewhere $ 250-375 top. I just do not think homeownere will pay that price. I could be wrong, but if you if you want the job I would be at 300.00 tops. 3 hours is more than enough time to clean this home. 3hours = 100.00 per hour. Good money.

Here is what I would put in a five gallon bucket. 2 gal SH, 1 gal of powerhouse or citraclean, 2 gal of H20. Xjet it and rinse after about a 3 min dwell time. Good luck.

  3. Glock, sorry to here about the job loss. But you are a contract cleaner... go clean something a make that money!!!!!!!!!!!. Keep the faith, god will not place more on you than you can handle. I truly live by that word. Do not sweat the small stuff. After the shock, hurt, betrayal, and the self pity wears off you wil be okay. Do not let them take you DIGNITY.

  4. Equipment

The ST-250 spray machine was designed with the professional fence contractor in mind. Since this machine can be mounted in truck or on trailer, heavy lifting of conventional paint sprayers or carrying of buckets at the job site is eliminated. The two 50 gallon tanks allow the contractor to offer two primary colors of stain while the siphon assembly allows for those unique color request.

The ST-250 utilizes a 300 foot hose which allows for most jobs to be completed without having to relocate the machine. Spray Jet spray tips are used on the wand to allow for a variety of spray patterns to be achieved.

Steel skid mounted spray rig ready to be mounted in truck or trailer

5.5 HP commercial grade Honda motor

High volume pressure pump (5 PSI-200 PSI)

Commercial grade hose reel with heavy duty hydraulic swivel

300 ft. hose with spray wand utilizing hydraulic quick disconnects

Siphon assembly designed for unique colors

Two 50 gallon tanks for two separate colors

Stain is continuously circulated while machine is running

Spray rig can be set up with two hose reels as an additional option.

The manifold design on the ST-250 allows for tank transfers of stains and also color selection.

The ST-250 was specifically designed for use with Standard Paints, Inc. Wood Defenderâ„¢ brand fence and deck stains.

  5. So, if I understand correctly, Ready Seal take anywhere from 2-3 coats for PT pine, that is about 3 years old and never had any sealer on it. I was leaning more toward the RS because of the cost factor of WTW. It would be safe to say that this deck(that I post pics of a few days ago)will absorb my first coat and leave the deck looking like Matts lower portion. As if it needs more stain?.

Is this a good assumption to double the stain needed for about 1200 sf?

I hate to order 8 gallon then nee 15-16 gallons. I do believe that the pt pine is going to be "thristy"

  6. Is there a method to determine when a board has soaked up as much stain as possible? I know this seems like a dumb question but this is how I learn from veterans. As a new woodie, I am concerned that I may not be applying enough stain on the decking as I should. I want to become as good as the vets here so I am not afraid to put this out there. I learn something new on each deck that I have completed.

Beth, you mentioned that Matt should be getting about 75 to 100 sqft to a gallon. Is that true or a typo?. I see the concept though. It appears that the lower boards did not get a good coat of sealer therefore the results are different from the upper portion of the picture.

Please chime in here when possible, I have another deck job coming up this weekend and I want to learn as much as possible so that the next pic I post can show the results like Shane, Reed or Beth and Rod. ;0)

  7. I am just asking a question here, no way am I a wood expert Yet, but it appears that the lower half of the boards DID NOT get enough stain on them. Am I correct here? Using ready seal, would it have a drastic effect on the final outcome,if Matt would go back over and apply a second application on the lighter color decking. I read some where on previous wood post, that if you apply a second coat of sealer and the previous coat has dried, it will leave the deck with 'SEMI GLOSS OR SHINEY LOOK".

Would this be true? Or do you have to apply the the second coat on the first while it is still wet?.

  8. Thanks, to all that posted. I just came out of the rain and I am glancing over the post responses and I will have to go back and reread to get an understanding from the reponses. Reed, I would like that estimate calculation thingy you mentioned.

I came up with about 1100sq feet for this bid. I want to understand HOW, I came up with it. I believe I bid the cost ok. I looked at about 6 hours to complete. Looking to go with Wood Tux WHG. What do you think beth?.

The deck is in need of a good cleaning and I believe that the honey gold will look good.

What color would you wood vets suggest in Ready Seal.

I just recieved my Ready Seal samples for Sunbrite. Thanks Tracey and Pete. Will be staining my test deck strips soon. I was looking at the light Brown or the dark brown.

Customer want to stay away from the redish tint look. Beth Chime in here when you can. Sorry I missed the Round table last weekend. Had the unfortunate loss of a close freind and then Monday, a family member was murdered in Indianapolis, needless to say I have had a bad week.

  9. Question for deck vets.

I have done about four deck this season as an add on to my pw services. They have all been low patio decks. No problem at all. Now I get a call from my previous customer that I powerwashed her home and flagstone, to give here and estimate on her deck. Pictures are below. Here are the measurements and I measured everything just to be safe.

    Top deck 21X10=210 sf

    Under deck 21X10=210 sf

    Top deck rails 46X4"=?

    Steps.. 1 Step = 13"X36" ?

    13 step total.

Hand Railing coming down from top deck area.

    20'X4"=?

    80.. 2x2= Spindels

    3x24 Runners Both Sides

Band boards .. Forgot to measure.

How do you vets come up with the total sqfootage for a deck like this.

I Qouted $985.00 for the job, due to past experience on previous deck staining. Cleaning, neutralizing, sanding and staining. I do not know if I overbidded this job, because I never had to take in consideration of all the measurements on this bid as I did on the low level patio decks I have previously did. I am thinking 10 gallons of Wood tux wet should do the job.

Or What would be the easiest way to get a total measurement of this deck if say Shane or Beth was measuring it?

Could one of you vets give me the total sqft of the deck job. I want to see if I was close in sqft before I post What I believe the sqft is. This is my first attempt at bidding on a deck with some many variable. A quick response is always appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  10. Beth, since you and Rod have so much expertise. I am thinking of trying wood tex or ready seal on my next customer deck. My question to you is.... It is a 2 year old PT pine and the last Pt I did had sort of a redish orange tint to it not much though but I could tell it... I do not want to put that stain on pt anymore.( it was wooddefender bright cedar, for those who are curious), the homeowner love the color and the results. I want to try Wood Tux or Ready Seal (since they are about 45 min from me and the shipping cost I could save), What would you suggest in as a good color for PT deck that have that yellowish Greenish tint in the wood?

I have spent hours admiring your photos and the warm honey gold seems to look great on PT. Any Suggestions.

  11. Adrian, Great job on the siding. You do not do gutters by the look of this picture, Not to bad mouth your results, but I do pay attention to detail.

I think cleaning the gutters would have made a good job a Great job. Not hard to do and is a good upsell. I think cleaning a house without brighten the gutters, is like washing a car and not armour all the wheels.

Use a 24Ft extension pole with a truck brush and 50/50 purple power or citra-clean by Steve Rowlett do 10ft section at a time. Brush and rinse.

A good way to add $50-75 to a job.
