You have to understand that we clean roofs almost once a year but definately once every two years. It's the climate down here. Having said that if I was onsite, for this job, for 6 hours it would be attributed to a mechanical failure of some sorts. That's including cutting the butt edges, washdown (roof run off) and cleanup around patio and entrance ways. That comes in at a lot more than $100/hr. I estimate 4 - 5 hours on that job. Guaranteed ps (Kory, thx for the pictures)

Kory, the pool cage is sceen enclosure. Your picture is incredibly small.....send me one that's not reduced in size: info@washaway.us I have to admint (and the picture is very small so I may be mistaken) that for our area your prices are about $300-$400 overpriced.

How would you handle this?
Washaway replied to PressurePros's question in Residential Pressure Washing
For the record: I know nothing about 'wood work'! Therefore I don't know how long it takes for the stain to dry nor how long it takes you to stain. What would happen if you stained, let's say later in the evening, like around 7, 8 or 9pm? If they're so old they won't be leaving the house at that time. You could do it using some flood lights and this would give the stain until morning to dry. Hand rails and the rest could be done during the day. Besides, you said that only a couple are build such that they have only one entry/exit point. (If all else fails tell them that you are spraying with acid based stain. If they leave the house the acid in the air is going to cling to their skin and eat their flesh to the bone. Give them some duck tape for the windows. For added effect you could suit up in a HAZMAT suit with helmet and respirators :lildevil: ) -

My new rig was not what I ordered !
Washaway replied to ken wiggins's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance

Any reason why I can't use one cup of 12.5% + one tablespoon of Tide + 5gal h2o in a bucket to clean these vinyl awnings?

An Acrylic Nightmare..kids don't try this at home
Washaway replied to PressurePros's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Ken, as everyone above, I too am impressed. I tip my hat to you! -
If pool shock is the same as Yellow Out then don't bother mixing 12.5% with it b/c you're just wasting your money. Yellow Out eats up chlorine and that is why you have to add chlorine to your pool after throwing in a bag of that stuff. Just a heads up!

Bill, Thanks for the input. My plan of attack was to brush the awnings, like you said, and then rinse with the ball valve open all the way.........in other words no high pressure. By the way these are vinyl type awnings and not fabric.
-
Should I use Dawn instead of Tide.... or maybe I'll just buy concentrated carpet shampoo instead. My main concern here is not damaging the awning.
-
I ask b/c I don't have time to send away for something that is manufactured for this particular application. Although I meant to say a Tablespoon of tide and not a cup........making that correction now.

How many of you are going? I'm contemplating going to the convention in April but I'd like to know your opinions. Is it worth the trip? Am I really going to come away with a lot, even though I don't get involved in wood work at all?

I occasionally get a phone call that I've won a 3 or 4 day getaway to wherever. They confirm that I'm such and such and what I make and etc. Then they explain what I get for what I give, which usually is nothing more than a registration fee of >100 bucks. After this, if I'm still interested, I get asked for my bank account # to verify that I truly am who I am and for whatever other 'legitimate' reason they present. Sidenote: I'm smarter than I look therefore I just play along with them from the inital "Hello" for personal amusement. When asked for my bank acc# I usually drill off a bogus number and they run it. Then they come back saying that it doesn't exist b/c it must have been closed etc. This is when I ask the persons first and last name, their marital status and income. When they respond with a dumbfounded response I ask them for their account number..........this is usually followed by me repeating "Hello? Hello?" b/c they've already hung up. I love messing with people!! :lgsideway

Favorite House was Mixtures
Washaway replied to Jonathan Chiplock's question in Residential Pressure Washing
2.5G of chlorine will run me $3.50 alone! What type of homes are you washing that you need wax? Siding, right? I have to agree with the above. For the first 1.5 years I avoided 12% as if it was a disease. Truth is that I had no experience with it and was scared. Now my trailer will never leave HQ without a few containers of 12% onboard. It's replaced my American Express......I won't leave home without it. -
That thing has a 40 foot reach capacity, yes? Next time make sure it's atleast 15-20 out from the side of the building.....then articulate it so that you can get your work done. You guys have sprinkler systems up there? That's the biggest obsticles I run into. They're very fragile and impossible to locate. Glad to hear, though, that you didn't have to take responsibilty for any of the damage.

Pump Rebuild ?
Washaway replied to Jonathan Chiplock's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Jonathan if you don't know what make and model then take a look at it!!! If the only problem you're having is a pulsating hose then just order a new packing kit and valve kit for the pump. Call the manuf. and they will send you a diagram on how to remove the above (not a very difficult thing to do) and replace the parts. BAM! Within 45minutes, and apprx $200, you've got a working pump. Good Luck ps: for the first time it will probably take you an hour and half to do the job. pps: If you are running very hard water (which I'm assuming from your post) then I'd certainly pay someone to have the pump and your hoses descaled. But if you do this make sure you do it before you replace the packing and valve kits. -
Jeff, what kind of lift are you using? Scissor or a Boom with a bucket?

Pump Rebuild ?
Washaway replied to Jonathan Chiplock's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Jonathan, exactly what sympos does the pump have? Are your hoses pulsating? Are you not getting a constant flow of water at the end of your hose? Just out of curiousity what make and model is the pump? -
Open mouth, insert foot. Way to go Washaway!

36" & Larger Surface Cleaners
Washaway replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I once spoke to a guy who's in my neck of the woods. He claimed to have manufactured a surface cleaner that will clean a 4ft sidewalk in one sweep. That a 48" cleaner. He said he sells them but I never bothered to get in touch with him so I haven't seen it. Maybee I can find his number somewhere. -
Which surface cleaner to buy
Washaway replied to ken wiggins's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Ken it depends on what type of work you will be doing. If most of your work is residential, and you inted on using your hover on the roof then by all means your first purchase should be a 19" hover. I am very faithful to Whisper Wash's Classic model. It has served me very well for the last three years and I plan to purchase a new one very soon. If you are into commercial work then a larger hover would be adviseable. However I would have to advise againts a three wheeled model of any kind. I own a Hydrotek Hydrotwister, Contractor model, and I would never get rid of it. True, it requires a bit more tender love and care than others but it's four swivel-caster setup is the best I've seen. It will change direction on the spot where a three wheeled setup, with fixed tires, will take a lot more manuevering. http://www.hydroteksystems.com/images/hydro-broom-close-500BQ.jpg Good luck to you. -
Thanks for the laugh Jon....that was awesome!

Thanks Craig. Glad to hear that you guys got back into it again. There's nothing better than going out for a few hours a couple of nights a week and having a blast. Make sure that you learn moves or tricks and not patterns. There is nothing worse than being able to tell who the teacher was based on the way a student dances. Next time you come down this way just let me know. We'll book a lesson for you two.
