  1. Hello. I have really appreciated all the sharing of knowledge on this board. I have greatly benefited from it in the past. I'm hoping you can help me now with a question I have. I want to try soda blasting, but all the sites I have checked out are not very informative. I want to blast wood, but am not sure if cob blasting or sodium bicarbonate blasting is better for wood. Also, all the equipment sales sites just want to sell me the biggest and best stuff. What size compressor and hopper are really needed for this? I'd really rather be able to mount it on a trailer, and not have to mortgage the house to do so. There is a lot of boat hulls down here on the SC coast, not to mention all the rust everywhere here from the salt air. I think these 2 things show a real need for soda blasting. I am in Charleston, SC, and would be interested in offering free labor in excnange for some training on soda blasting. Is anybody within a 250-300 mile radius of Charleston interested in helping me out? thanks again for all your help over the years. Now I just want to have a blast. Dennis

  5. Hey thanks for the reply. I'd love to come to Rocky Point and watch you do your inlaws house. What type of blasting material are you using? Let's work out the dates and see if we can get together and do this. I kind of need advance notice so I can book a hotel room. I'm pretty flexible this time of year, and I'm really interested in learning how.

I know all the guys in McClellanville that shrimp or fish and I'd been up to Moorhead to go bluefin tuna fishing. Again, thanks for the reply, I didn't think I'd get one. Send me your phone number and we can talk on the phone.

    Thank you.

Why don't you two take it outside, to the backyard. Quit your bickering and act like a professional. I hear enough of that from my kids, I don't need to hear it here as well.
  8. I need some help please

I'm Dennis, and I have a company in SC that does both residential and some commercial work. I have been a member of the Grime Scene for almost 2 years, mostly lurking, posting occasionally. This has been a great site to find answers to problems, and I greatly appreciate everyone's knowledge and expertise. Here's my problem. I have two tanks on my shurflo rig. One tank has a clear braided hose, the other came with a black automotive heater-type hose. I think the black hose slightly melted on both the inside and outside of the hose, from contact with the SH, 12.5%. I discovered this after washing a house, and finding black residue stuck on the windows. The house had aluminum, not vinyl, siding. I don't know if that makes any difference. The house wash mix that I use is Steve's RP Citroclean, with the proper mix. My problem is removing the black residue. I tried scraping with a razor blade, using standard window cleaners, including Windex, and a vinegar and water mixture. It won't come off. I even tried a foam bathroom cleanser, but that didn't work. Oven cleaner doesn't work. Has anybody else run into this problem? How did you get the residue off? I am definitely going to change the hose on the tank. Could it be that the aluminum oxidized, and that is what is stuck to the window? Or do you think it was from the hose, like I suspect. This is a great place to learn. Thanks for all your help. Dennis

  12. My name's Dennis and I live in Charleston, SC. I have an SC3008 Hydrotek, which is about a year old. I have been regularly cleaning modern built homes, mostly vinyl siding, none older than 25-30 years old. Got a call from a lady who lives in one of the old historic homes in downtown Charleston. It's a typical Charleston row house. The wood on the side is 140 years old, don't know what kind. Painted. The house is good shape for its age, no rot, no loose boards, everything looks good. Here's my question. I need recommendations on tip sizes. I would like to get a little more than the soap tip provides, and a whole lot less than my 1508 puts out. Any tips or suggestions about working on an historic house? Anybody done much with that? What about the windows? They have a Board of Architectural Review here, and owners can only use caulk and/or glazing that would have been used at the time of construction. I believe what is often used here is a ground-up animal bone mixture. What effect would pressure washing, the soap, the 12.5 bleach, have on such a mixture? Does anyone know? I would really appreciate any help with this. Obviously, old Charleston is full of these types of houses, so I need to learn how to wash them. But I certainly don't want to have to recaulk a bunch of windows at $100/quart for caulk just to figure it out on my own. I hate reinventing the wheel. All you guys have been great, and have helped me learn a lot this past year. I truly could not have succeeded without this website, and your assistance, whether you know it or not. Thanks in advance. Dennis
  13. Hello. I'm Dennis, I live in Charleston, SC. I am a semi-retired commercial fisherman who is moving into pressure washing. I've got a Hydrotek SC3008, commercial/industrial grade machine. I have used and been familiar with various types of pressure washers during my 25 years of fishing. I've been doing this professionally now for less than a year. I'm licensed and insured. I am so glad to have found such a treasure trove of information on this and a couple of other boards. I thank all of you for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Can you help me with a problem I recently had? I got an x jet, and used it for the first time on vinyl siding. On one side of the house (the side I started on), swirl-type streaks showed up after it dried. Does anyone know what caused this? How do I get rid of them? I did apply soap from the bottom up. I did get a little loose applying it, mostly cause I just wanted to try out the x jet, and see what this baby could do. Should I have run the x jet for 5 - 10 minutes before applying the soap? LIke washing the starch out of a new shirt? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Dennis
  14. swirls on vinyl siding from the x jet

Here's what I did about my swirls problem. I went back to the house 3 weeks later. I used simple green soap, crud cutter, and a little bit of Cascade, and no 12.5 sh cause I figured I had already taken care of the algae. I downstreamed it on, let dwell 10 minutes (it was on the shaded side of the house), then rinsed with my 8 gallon a minute tip. First tried one half, let dwell for 5 minutes, but it didn't work. Ten minutes did work. The owner is happy, I'm happy I'm not buying vinyl siding, the wife is happy I'm not talking about swirls anymore. It'll be too soon if I ever see another one. Thanks for all your advice and input. Couldn't have done it without you. Dennis

  16. swirls on vinyl siding from the x jet

Hi Ryan...Yes, that's the way I pronounce it. Chalston, the land of shrimp and grits. And Barbeque. I prefer Duke's BBQ, also a little place in Hollywood, SC called the Smokehouse that has delicious BBQ. Don't forget Melvin's, famous for the best cheeseburger in the world, at least according to Emeril. My daddy was a fine Southern Colonel, and I'm proud to be from the south. We're all down here eating fried chicken and watermelon. Give me a call when you get to Charleston, and we'll get together. Talk shop. Eat bbq. Dennis 843-442-0630
  17. Foam Cannon?

i to have been wondering about these foamers. i saw one on the cleaner network, but you have to have air to make them work. is there one that does not operate with air?i also saw some at lafferty equipment on the net. called them up on the phoneand talked to a real helpful man named alex. he is trying to come up with something that will throw foam up forty feet that will work for pressure washing.if anyone knows more about this subject please chime inn. thanks in advance. dennis
  18. swirls on vinyl siding from the x jet

no and once again thanks for the input
  19. swirls on vinyl siding from the x jet

I forgot to ask. I hate to sound like a dumbass, but I want to be sure we are talking about the same thing. What is a fan tip? Thanks again.
  20. swirls on vinyl siding from the x jet

The vinyl siding in this case is probably about 10 years old. I think I may have knocked off more oxidized vinyl than I would like. I'm curious, because another customer told me, unsolicited, that the last guy she had wash her house left swirls, which disappeared in 3 months. I'm wondering if that is going to happen on this house. I'm going to wash it again this weekend, and see what happens. Any other suggestions? I would greatly appreciate any help I can get. Dennis
