  1. 36" & Larger Surface Cleaners

If Philip is right, and I haven't checked the math, that would make the tips highly supersonic. If you've ever been around a turboprop aircraft that spins a supersonic propeller you'd realize that this machine would be a major danger to hearing. There would be a constant sonic boom rolling out from under the cover. That would be pretty interesting in the saturated environment under a surfacer cover because the water would make the atmosphere even more dense, thereby lowering the speed to Mach. I'm guessing this has something to do with these machines being hard to come by.
  2. I got laid off!

Sorry to hear about the layoff. I've been there myself many times and can confidently say that you will make it no matter what you do. You aren't the kind of guy that will fail your family or yourself. I've read your posts, and agree with Jeff that you obviously are intelligent. I'll go a step further and tell you this: I admire your ability to ask the right questions, at the right time, in an intelligent manner, respectfully, and to follow-up in the same manner. I also see that you aren't afraid to admit your need for help. These are characteristics that will serve you well no matter what course you choose to follow. I just wanted to chime in with the others here to encourage you, and let you know you have friends that will help if we can. I'm sure you'd do the same for us. Get in touch any way, whenever if I can be of any assistance, and hang tough. Also, thanks for the polls and posts you've added. They have done much to enlighten me this year.:)
  3. Hey, Jon Fife!

I don't want to hear any bad service or clean the garage comments. LOL You asked for these months ago, and I can't sleep today, so here they are.:) Sorry for the delay.
  4. Hey, Jon Fife!

I've been a little out of it, but am rested now, I hope my postes weren't more incoherent than usual. LOL I don't care if I never see another plow unit. Oddly, most of the snow is melted already, seems like a lot of money wasted, but since I got some of it: So be it!:) I'd love to have Foose work on this car, Ken, but he acts like I'm a stranger when I call! LOL No pimping required, all that electronic crapmania fails to move me. As far as I'm concerned, TVs only belong in homes or minivans, to keep the crumbcrushers outta soccer-moms' hair. Thanks for the compliments, I'm leaning toward a crate motor and a Torqueflite behind the ceramic clutch. I haven't tried the 318 in there for a while, but it was aging rapidly last drive, and the old Saginaw 4-speed was starting to hit on second pretty hard. Jon, I used to run the Sherman and Elk Mountain grades on I-80 once each way a week. I hauled mail between Rock Springs and Bloomfield, IA as part of a Memphis-Seattle mail route. I've got plenty of hair-raising tales from those years. We ought to get together some time to tell hunting and trucking tales.:)
  5. I guess whatever helps close the sales!;) :lgsideway (Sorry, I'm a juvenile most of the time:rolleyes:
  6. Hey, Jon Fife!

Got busy in transportation. I used to stay out over 300 days a year, and the time-off typically included at least two weeks straight hunting during January, sometimes three. Here is how my trucking career ended, to illustrate my point: I took two weeks off in '02 and spent them in Rome (with a short stay in Naples) aside from that no period more than three consecutive days off my rig. I got back to Omaha at about midnight the day before I flew. Woke at about 5:30 am and then stayed awake the next twenty-six hours doing paperwork, seeing my family, and having my first date with the woman I married. (Not in that order) Caught my flight to Detroit, couldn't sleep due to Chatty-Cathy next to me. Got on my cattle-truck like flight to Leonardo and slept the nine hours all the way there. Two weeks later, I probably had slept about three to four hours each night, I slept the nine hours to the states and laid-over and missed connection to Omaha. Arrived twelve hours later than planned and was behind the wheel bound for delivery at F.E. Warren in Cheyenne due at O800 local. Left Omaha behind 8-ball delivered on-time to irate Colonel and continued to reload in Colorado Springs. Two weeks later I met my folks in ST. Louis visiting family. My next home time was September (this all happened in July) and went like that without another vacation until 2004. That's when the drunk driver rearranged my priorities for me, and I got to dig my stuff out of the storage units. I like living with my stuff now, although I gotta say that this sleeping stuff isn't really my bag even now. The color is called Competition Orange some places, and Tangerine Dream others. It was stock and pretty easily the most common color for Demons that remain. I always liked it, but the graphic stripes are a little dated. One day I plan to repaint to remove the them and leave the rocker-panels black on orange. Thanks for the compliment, now all I have to do is make this business keep me nearly as busy as the rigs used to, and maybe I can afford to use my stuff now that I get to see it so much more often.:) I learned my lesson though, you can't trade anything for family, priorities take constant attention.
  7. Moron

In a whole new folder: Those Suffering From Cranial Rectosis.:)
  8. New Solid Deck Coating

Apparently made from two highly volatile chemicals, this crystaline deck finish can be applied to wet or dry wood, and builds a layer of protection without a film. (In most cases) Must be applied below 32*F. This example may be over applied, a little goes a long way.
  9. New Solid Deck Coating

Maybe that should be the product name. Or maybe Spring Rain!
  10. New Solid Deck Coating

Some say this new protectant is damaging to vehicles, and while this can be true, the vast majority of vehicles to which it is applied show no major effects. User results, of cours, may vary.:) As is readily apparent, it can also be used to protect and preserve homes, and even is a valuable landscape protectant. Now how much would you pay for this versatile wonder product? DON'T ANSWER!! This product can be yours FREE simply for living in the right area of the nation. Post here for more details and testimonials from users. A major shipment just went out!
  11. Hey, Jon Fife!

1971 Dodge Demon, 318 balanced and blue-printed locally twenty yers ago. I knew the guy that did the work, in the mid-90's he needed cash to get married and I bought her for tiny money. I have had her garaged for all of this century, and just recently decided to revive the old beast. We'll see how this goes. I'm real excited about the idea, and so is my wife!:lgkick:
  12. Hey, Jon Fife!

Most of these were taken today. Too much snow to call this Spring! I've been trying to get sleep since I've been moving snow, but I didn't want to put this off any longer.:lgtear: I'm joking, I can't sleep because I'm over-tired. Forgive me if I don't make a lot of sense.
  13. I'm in New Jersey

I'm in New Jersey visiting family and being a godfather for my neice.:) My bro-in law has a deck I'd say was ~700 sqare feet of decking and totals something like 1700 square feet that needs cleaned and sealed. The old finish is totalled, but I'm not sure what it is. Deck is pressure treated pine, and in pretty good shape. House needs a wash: vinyl siding with green mold on the north, general soil on the rest, some brick. I didn't bring my USB cable, so no pics yet. There might be some later. The place is a two-story about 15 years old, above-ground pool in back adjacent to deck. He could use some advice on regular cleaning and artillery fungus. I obviously can't do the job (a little out of my service area), but anybody that services the Hillsborough, NJ area should PM me for the details. I'm guessing he would rather not do this himself, but he will if nobody responds, so PLEASE SPARE ME THE CALLS and help yourself to a spoonful of relatively easy work. Just don't tear his head off on price and you'll make friends easy.:) I'm not looking for a freebie, I just figured those that frequent this board have done a lot for me, and I'd feel better if one of you did this job. You do the estimate and the selling your way, I'll say, "That sounds reasonable," and you'll get the job I'm betting. I have my phone with me, so if you'd rather call and talk to me personally, that's always OK with me. Any contact method you choose is fine. Thanks everybody!
  14. I'm in New Jersey

I've never been mistaken for a doctor, but here is some advice intended to help you live long and happily and well: Don't order the lobster rolls at The Philadelphia Fish Company on Chestnut, a couple of blocks west of Front street! I'm not positive it was food poisoning, actually, but man did we get sick fast and furious! The wife had it harder than I, but our meals only differed in the soups we ordered. Coulda been some powerful bug, but I don't think the lobster roll is going to tempt me so much anywhere from now on. I look forward to a good evening of good South Philly food with you sometime soon, Ken. I can always find time for a good Tomato gravy-based meal. Or a good meal based on just about anything, I'm short, but not small!:lgsideway I'll be in touch sooner than later, feel free to call anytime. I love to talk, too!
  15. I'm in New Jersey

Rick, thanks again. Eric is all excited about the deck. You made me look pretty good to the family. Visit whenever, I'm a butcher's grandson, so the meat rarely gets better than what we have.:) Ken, sorry we couldn't connect. You dodged a bullet though: My wife and I had lunch at a sefood place just before you and I talked, and we were sick just a few hours later. Barely made it back to Jersey in cleanliness. Definatly ungood! I still haven't slept. Up all night howling dinosaur talk into the porcelin time-telephone, then off to a Buddy Holly-killer yard-dart of a jet for the flight back to Omaha.:lgtear: But you know me...I can't complain. I've been ill on the Irish-New-Year on multiple occasions, only this time I didn't even earn it. It really was a great trip, and I may be out that way again soon. I've got to have a rematch with that seafood.:lgsideway I hope to meet some more of the fine members here one day. I finally feel like sleeping, so I'd better act now!
  16. I'm in New Jersey

I got to meet Rick yesterday when he came out to look at the brother-in-law's deck. Rick is a great guy and made a terrific impression on Eric (the bro-in-law) and I. Rick's a pro! I just wanted to thank you publicly Rick, it was great to meet you and made me feel good to be able to help family members get a real professional "woodie" for their restoration needs. Thanks for taking the time. It was cool to meet another refugee from bedbuggin' that has made it out!:)
  17. I'm in New Jersey

Mark, the zip here is 08844. I'm here through the end of the week, fly out Saturday AM. Get in touch if you are interested, I'll pass you along. Too bad, Ken, I'd love to set you up! I'll be calling you tomorrow if that's cool. I'm heading into the city for a little respect call, so I'll try to make it mid AM or mid PM. If you get impatient, call me. Whatever is convenient for you.:) Anybody that is interested, I'm easy to get a hold of at the number below. Doesn't look like pictures are going to be up anytime soon, sorry.
  18. Truck prices

www.Truckpaper.com You all should sign-up. I've been in transportation almost all of my adult life, so I'm a bit of a freak about this. DO NOT BUY NEW RIGS! It is a vanity statement you can do without. Seriously. Just like finding the right PW equipment or contractor, some research will help. Check out the new units, and then peruse the Truckpaper and online auctions. There is a raft of good, used iron out there. Find a dealer and a rig you like/are comfortable with and haggle. It is just business, so don't let your emotions enter the works. Even if you aren't currently looking for a new ride, or mule, always be looking, so you know what is motivating the salefolks when the time comes, and so that you know what you are talking about. The truckpaper is a great way to figure out where the line between want and need lies. It also helps to find dealers you've never seen before. It is a valuable tool, but the last few years I've noticed fewer posted prices. Ebay is helpful in finding the value/price break as well. Hope this helps!:)
  19. What IS this?

That, my friends and neighbors, is the mystery puck. I'd say more about it, but then the mysery would be gone. I can't be responsible for such a loss. Or... maybe its a flying saucer flux capacitor? Mysteriouser, and mysteriouser, isn't it?
  20. Originally, I was going to post these questions in another thread, but they dragged out a bit and I thought that a new thread was in order. This fungus isn't well known in Nebraska, but it IS here. I started to spot it last year, and have avoided any problems except the skeptical customer syndrome. You know the one, that's where as you're explaining the art'y fungus their eyebrows become more and more assymetrically arched? A sure sign they believe we have entered the "Sales Zone", I have an article I downloaded and printed that puts paid to this problem usually. But I then often have to deal with the whole question of what to replace the much-beloved mulch with now that we understand it carries icky things to the house. It is amazing how attached some people are to their mulch, and as much as I'd like to sell weekly cleaning and prevention, I've found the market is a bit soft yet.;) Usually I recommend gravel or one of the rubber mulch look-alikes, but since I don't really do any landscaping, I'm not an expert. Anybody have any better ideas? Has anybody been tempted to do any "Mulch Remediation/Removal services as an adjunct to cleaning the house? I'm not happy with telling them that the mulch has to go, but that I have no suggestions as to what alternatives there are. As far as that goes, is there some money we are leaving behind? Should we as PWers be looking for partners in landscaping to handle the mulch removal/replacement. How about the treatment of the infected area after the mulch is gone? Just wondering about what other services we should be selling when this shows up to wreck an otherwise pleasant housewash.:lgmoneyey
  21. Where in the World??

I used to live in Perham in the summers, kinda northwest past Staples towards Detroit Lakes. If you do set up a RT let me know, I'll chaperone.;) LOL Seriously, a RT a little closer to me sounds good, if anybody ever tries to get one going, I'll help if I can. I've never personally met another PWer.
  22. Having the answers

I need to read your ramblings in order to properly learn my chosen trade. Thanks Jeff.:)
  23. Potato Chips

Shakes ain't cheap, baby! If they can be restored and thus last longer, wouldn't that be a value to sell? I have heard people say that shakes shouldn't be sealed because they need to swell with moisture to remain watertight. What do the woodies say? I'm guessing that's an old wives tale if Roger and Celeste are currently doing a restoration.
  24. What's in your first aid kit?

Just thought this was about the right time of year to bring this thread up top again. First aid, and a way to communicate with responders while unconscious, are things to think about as we get ourselves and our businesses ready for the wild spring we all hope to have.:) If this topic starts to get old, you may be in danger of not getting old!;)
  25. Thank you to our TGS Site Supporters!

Thank you right back, Beth & Rod. TGS has been an invaluable tool for me, I'll do whatever I can to see that it remains. This is a great source of information and discussion, and is a credit to the industry and the members. Thanks again to you all.:)
