  1. when pulling a enclosed trailer have you ever...

That is truly amazing. it never fails to astound me how simply most collisions happen. I hope nobody was too badly hurt, imagine if somebody had been waiting at the teller's consoles there.
  2. anyone ever order from this site?

No, seems a little spooky to me. B-n-R, you beat me to it, I was going for exactly the same wording until I saw your post. EZ, have you ordered from them? Looks like Chinese consume-grade products, I have to wonder what the draw would be. I have some friends that have bought ©honda equipment like generators, trash pumps, and even motorcycles, all with the same results: A short period of poor performance at first, but once broken in, they have all reported TOTAL FAILURE. I actually own a Chinese manufactured rifle that functions perfectly, every time, but that may be because the Russian design is so simple and tried and true, that even the Dremel-tool machineing can't destroy it. Consumer-grade Chinese knock-off equipment is generally substandard in fit, finish, metallurgy, and parts placement in assemby. One buddy of mine bought a chinese-manufacture knockoff of a russian Ural motorcycle (itself a knockoff of the 1935 German BMW) and all the parts were present, but of the many different springs in various assemblies, less than half were in the correct positions. What's more, one head was assembled and shipped with the gasket folded in half. Save yourself the trouble, and buy from reputable dealers of recognizable brands.:)
  3. new batman movie?

I saw it last night, because my inlawsd wanted to see it. It was a surprisingly good movie, lots of action, lots of cool toys, and a few surprises to keep it interesting. Although I don't agree, I can see where all the "sympathy Oscar" talk comes from, Ledger even tops old Jack as the Joker. Easily the most interesting Batman flick to me. I wouldn't mind if the superheroes had a bit less angst in their lives, though. I mean nowadays they whine so much, I'm surprised they don't just go for therapy, even Superman has committment issues now. Whatever, I guess that is what makes it interesting. Another thing, this is more proof that Ledger is a real loss. So sad to see all the sequel-setups in this movie, and know it will have to be a whole new actor.
  4. Working outdoors - most and least...

I least like the heat. Cold is miserable and stops work, but heat just makes me wish I stopped working. Last Friday I was delayed starting on a gutters toground housewash just blocks from my own house, so I rushed out and got set up, then up to the gutters I went. Musta been 130* up there, and I'd had a smallish lunch early while waiting for my truck in the shop. Suddenly I'm getting ill on a ladder. I got down and sat in the shade drinking water and Gatorade for a good 20 mins before I restarted. Then it was slow and plodding, with a lot of water breaks. I'm not as young as I once was, but I'd like to get a little older. I like being outside period. No matter what, I'd rather be outside, I've always been that way, and always will. There was never any question that I'd ever do anything that required a lot of inside work. It just isn't me. But we all have to be careful when it is 98* and 98% relative humidity.

  6. Say a prayer

We're with you and yours in prayer, Scott.
  7. Res. Concrete

James, the bleach/water mix and chlorine solution terms are largely interchangable. Lance is correct in his evaluation in my opinion. I would be very careful not to over-apply the solution. You want to apply just enough so that runoff is minimal. The coy won't like the bleach. If I remember right, the aquarium shops (where the fish geeks go, not the local petsmart or whatever big petstore you have) used to have some kind of drops for removing the chlorine from tapwater. Maybe you could apply a judicious amount of whatever that stuff is to the foot of ground between your concrete and the pond. Find out what is in the drops, and use that, or buy a lot of the drops. Good luck, let us know how it goes.
  8. Any Smokers Out There?

Common bond my eye! Smoking meat is the wrong way to cook! All meats should be boiled or eaten raw! Smoking is dangerous and unhealthy. Witness this Google search: smoking's effects - Google Search All right-thinking folk like their meat like Frank Drummond: Mighty hot, and mighty wet! :lolsign::lolsign::lolsign::lolsign: (Sorry everybody, sometimes I'm an imp!)
  9. soiled canvas tarps

Low-pressure-high-volume! I've washed them on a fence, and have thought about hitting them with stripper, but haven't tried it. If you are ready to throw them out, what have you to lose? Give it a shot and see what happens. I wouldn't go the dryer route myself, mostly I'll do anything to avoid a laundromat. I do have an old dryer in my shop/garage, but I only use it to dry towels and rags wet with water. (Mostly)
  10. Are PW'ers needed in Mid West flood area?

Seems like this is a pretty busy time of year to be traveling to chase work that may not be there. Demo is going strong all over the midwest. I've been bidding on some after-storm cleanup, but there are a lot of volunteers with homeowner equipment out here. Not to mention the regular summer work, it has allowed me to raise my deck prices, since I can stay busier. I can tell you there won't be a great deal of roof cleaning in Omaha, NE anytime soon. The hail and the tornadoes have seen to that! Right now you can't swing a gypsy roofer over your head without bumping two more.:lolsign:
  11. New Member

Welcome Clint. I was just down in your neck of the woods last week. (Unrelated to PWing) Next time I'm down, it will be for entertainment rather than business, but I will give you notice so we can meet up, or so you can dodge me!;) I've always liked San Antonio, but I wish theyd finish the eastern side freeways already!:vroom: Is the Schlitterbahn still in business?
  12. mounting pressure washer?

Brian, sorry to hear about the elbows! That sounds rough. I can't help you with anybody local to do the mounting, but there are a l;ot of great members here from NY state, some nearer to you than others I'm sure. Off the top of my head there are: John Tornabene (John T), Matthew Johnson (Matthew Johnson), and James Bruno (JBruno). I know I'm forgetting plenty of good people, but this is a start. Give some of them a call, and I'll bet they will know somebody to get the work done. You might also try Matthew's newly minted NY PW Organization, they should be handy to network with in any instance. NYPWC.NET Anyway, hope this helps a bit, and heal well!:lgwave:
  13. Poor Christian woman

Don't answer it Russ, I got it yesterday and am already the designated stand-in. I have to bribe some local officials with a money-transfer, but it all seems to be going according to plan. Would anybody like to suggest a good charity or church where I can start the giving process?
  14. Need Help With New Vehicle Decision!!!

Until very recently I have used a step van with a E-250 chassis beefed for Fed-Ex in 94. With a straight six (fuel injected) I got a reliable 11 MPG unless the wind was blowing. I never had a problem pulling an 18' open flatbed with it. I really have no idea how heavy my whole shebang was but we'd slow once in a while. It's for sale right now, as the fuel pump went out at the end of last year, and even though it doesn't owe us anything, we aren't going to spend any more on it. Your E-350 is heavier than an F-350, I've been told, but drivetrains and suspensions are identical, so minus the extra weight, the payloads are nominally identical. Vans are handy, but I'm glad I had the step-van body and built-in shelving. Did I mention the thing is as ugly as home-made soap? All aluminum body means no rust, or paint, but looks pretty strange. These pics hardly do it justice. The remaining sign comes off the day of sale! Anybody? Nobody...:lgtear:
  15. Birthday wishes...

It's killing my hunting grounds! The CRP program is suffering, as are other conservation attempts in the state. Because of the new ideas/pressures concerning ethanol, we now have rediculous piling up to ludicrous. For instance, the county in the sandhills where I have my lease produces about 4.3 million bushels of dryland corn yearly. That is pretty good considering the availability of water and soil as opposed to sand there. Yet, some charlatan has managed to sell the county and state on a tax incentive program, and partial matching construction funds to build a facility capable of processing 8 MILLION bushels per month into ethanol. That still wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't one of these mega-stills popping up in each of our 92 counties, nevermind that the county I'm specifically speaking of is nearly 100 miles from the nearest Interstate highway, and has only one rail line transiting their territory, and that a part-time micro line serving local co-ops during the harvest. Now add to that the fact that shelter belts and other cover (including farmsteads and small feed operations) are being bulldozed and burned to clear land for more corn production. Add to that the large diesel and gasoline powered irrigators being sold like hotcakes to make barely marginal land partly arable, and the field-leveling etc. necessary to change the land use, and there is no possible way the ethanol produced can have an impact on fuel prices (or even supply). In fact, the subsidies we aren't counting (unintended subsiies like higher food costs, etc) are going to increase disproportionately for the folks in rural areas, because they aren't able to compete for the cheap imported goods so available in larger metropolitan areas. We can kiss our populated countryside goodbye in the near future. I hope the cities across the country are ready to absorb another mass migration of cheap labor, this time native. Man! What a screed to put in a positive thread!:lgtear: Sorry guys, here is a positive thought: We should be able to get any amount of grain vodka or corn whisky we want, wanywhere in the country, for next to nothing, very soon!
  16. Birthday wishes...

Sorry I missed your birthday, and I wish you many more happy ones. I have that quote on a sweatshirt, Franklin was a genious, no?
  17. How did you get started?

I think there may be others. http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/club-house/5674-why-pwing.html Enjoy!
  18. How did you get started?

Not that it is a bad thing in itself to ask, just that I know there is at least one other thread on the same subject. The stories are typically cool to read, in my opinion, but many of us have written/read them before. I'll see if I can find the old thread.
  19. Lazarus Needs Your Opinion

Hey everybody, I haven’t been around much lately, but I will be from now on. We had a very odd winter in the Millen household that was full of unexpected events and distractions from StainlessDeal and our family. It has turned out positively, but I wouldn’t go back through the last few months again for love nor money. I want to thank all of you that have called, emailed, and/or written to check up on us: I have said before, and I’m saying it now, I have been disproportionately blessed with better friends than I could ever deserve. Thanks to you all! One of the very good things that has been happening in the recent past is that we bought a bunch of new equipment from Bob, and as soon as I have it all ready to go, I will post some pics. Here is where you all can lend a hand: I’m having a raft of new uniform parts and give-away novelties embroidered with the new logo Keith designed for me, but there is a small dilemma. The embroiderers tweaked the logo just bit to save me a little money, and I’d like your opinions on that. I’ll post both logos, you tell me if I should pay more for the red background to stay. I’m on the fence, push me one way or the other, please. Embroidered logo 001.bmp
  20. Lazarus Needs Your Opinion

Right now, I'm ordering several colors, but plan on black mostly. I think the tweaked version will wash on whites and greys, but I'm gonna probably give them a shot at it first. To keep the red won't cost me much more, ($50 bucks set up, and $3.75 per item) but that adds pretty quickly on hats and the like. Personally, I like the red, but the other looks great on dark, too. I'm probably going to hafta do the manly thing. I'll ask the wife. Mike, sounds like a good time man, I'll call later this week and catch up!
  21. joe walters wants me to pay!!

I have had that experience time and again, nobody knows what I do, or how to charge me. It is infuriating. Joe and I have a great relationship: He doesn't bother me, I don't bother him. Besides, Che Che is a kick to talk to, and calls me whenever something looks hinky in the mail. All I really want from an insurance company is for them not to rape me. From the agents, I want to know asap if the company looks like it is getting ready to ask me out. Seventy-five bucks is a small fee in the insurance business, and we can't be in business without them. Everybody has kids to feed.
  22. New Baby in the house..caption this

Look what you made! What a joy and blessing for you and yours. Too bad about the vomit, but a good story anyway!;)
  23. Your Favorite Charity

American Red Cross gets my attention most of the time. I give funds and blood. I like them because they are everywhere nobody wants to be. After that, Salvation Army and the Disabled American Veterans get bucks and stuff to sell. I do free carwashes for an area church youth group each summer. I'd like to do more and contribute more, I've been disproportionately well blessed in too many ways to count. Sharing my good fortune is a responsibility I feel more and more as I do better each year.
  24. Happy Holidays!

It is time for the feats of strength! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one and all of you PWers and associates out there!!:lghohoho::lgbounces:lghohoho:
  25. Here is the Best Ford Ad Ever!

I'm not a huge Ford fan, but there are two great reasons to like this ad: 1. It says, "Welcome Home!" exceedingly well. 2. It says, "Happy Holidays!" as well. It is a little long, stick with it. Best_Ford_Commercial.wmv
