  1. A Prayer for a Friend

Have our prayers been helping? Any word on how Diamond Jim is?
  2. Might be Interesting...

I used to be a concrete pump operator (for, like, a minute) but I still get mailings once and again from that industry and the vendors in it. I copied the first page of their website ( www.worldofconcrete.com ) here as a thumnail. There might be some interesting information here. Maybe some of you that do masonry and/or overlays can get something useful from this outfit. There might even be a thing or two for the flatworkers, I haven't had time to read much of the mailer they sent, or the website. I did notice that one of the seminars offered is an intro to an English as a Second Language program for your employees. Welcome to World of Concrete.doc
  3. New Years Resolutions.

My resolution is to lose a little of the fat I've let pile up, but mostly my resolution is to accentuate the positive. I try hard everyday to be as positive as possible, but , as day-to-day concerns weigh on me, I begin to fail at it. I make compromises with myself of which I later am ashamed. This year my first child comes, and I want this old habit of mine to be renewed before he/she gets here. I want to remember to say nothing at all before speaking ill. I want my children to never remember hearing me run another person down, or harping on some little thing that irks me. I want my children to want to emulate me and my behavior because they admire the goodness of it, the rightness of speaking judiciously, and only when appropriate. That, and I gotta get some of this pudge off! Happy New Year, Y'all!:lgwave:
  4. Happy New Year

Here's to wishing everybody on TGS a great new year full of challenge and achievement! Go out and spread some joy, lets accentuate the positive this year! Be safe and well, and do good work, everyday!

I should have been more clear, Ken. I mean the huge 18 carat gold, diamond-studded chalice I'm currently sipping Negra Modelo out of. I'm sure you have one around somewhere, mine arrived soon after I contributed. Oh, there is a rather tiny artists rendering there by our screen names...yeah, that's the one I meant, this other is just a gift... from my wife... Morgan Fairchild...that's the ticket!
  6. Cold Vacation

Naw Jeff, as much as I'm excited, we're planning on waiting until August to take delivery on the kiddo. That will give me time to remember every little thing I've ever done that will cause a parent to fret. My folks are laughing constantly these days. We haven't had a flake of snow since last spring, and little frost. My brother-in-law says that global warming is at the top of his list of things he hates that he loves! BTW, he's moving to Alaska tomorrow. He's going to be the director and executive producer of a Youth radio project at the public radio station in anchorage. I hope you enjoy the trip, are you flying up?

Thanks for all you've done for the industry. Being responsive is a sign of good leadership. As a member here, I appreciate the efforts you make to show you don't take us for granted. As a site supporter, I thank you for the trophy and the public thanks, it has been a good investment for me.
  8. How was your season?

QC the lance to the gun, and you can spin her any way you like. I use both hands, but my right is pretty weak these days, so I've had to build some ambidexterity! BTW, very nice work on the wood, and the photography.
  9. Cold Vacation

You may not get to snowmobile, a buddy of mine in the twin cities says that he hasdn't any snow by the 19th. I haven't heard of much since. Maybe you could go mudmobiling!:lgbounces Bundle up and have a good time.:)
  10. Opinion please

    Was this originally a belt-drive 4GPM?
  11. Might be Interesting...

I let you know, Carlos. Current events might be overtqaking my travels, though!;)
  12. Opinion please

If I could change one thing about the original equipment I bought, it would be to go with a higher GPM machine. I price bought a DD ~4 GPM Tuff. It has been a good little machine, but it is slow. I've never used a high GPM machine to speak of, but I still feel slow.:lgtear:
  13. Best Christmas Gift Ever!

Check it out!:lgbounces :lgsideway :lgkick:   Got this a little early, but had to clue the families in before going to the extended family!
  14. Might be Interesting...

You might want to think about an expansion, at least find a "time-share" office condo!:lgsideway I have to admit, I'm one of those Vegas freaks. I'll go at the drop of a hat, and I don't even gamble! It is just the kind of hyperkinetic atmosphere that can keep me fascinated for days. I can't sleep in that town, and always think I'm missing something too fun. Whenever I leave, I have to decompress in a deathly quiet place for a long time, or I will drive everybody nuts. I don't think I'd get a lot of conventioneering done there.
  15. Best Christmas Gift Ever!

That's me, Man. I worked for a guy once upon a time, that used to say I was "a swaggerin' little p***k, and about as subtle as a hammerhead, but not a bad guy"! I was his dispatcher in the moving industry, not a place where niceties are well-appreciated. Thanks for the congrats everyone, it means a great deal to me. Craig! Where you been, and what did you see there? It's been a while, I hope you and yours are doing well out there.:)
  16. Might be Interesting...

See if you can get a report. I've noticed that al of the larger, more "involved" concrete outfits around here send somebody to this event. (or say they do) I wonder how well-loved this organization is in their industry?
  17. Best Christmas Gift Ever!

Thanks everybody, you all are just too much! I'm as excited as I can possibly get, I'm more blessed every day. Now I know I'll be paying extra attention in St. Louis, I've got to boost production and revenue with a vengeance! LOL I'm sure I'll have tons of new parent questions, and I'm counting on all of you for cyber hand-holding! As far as the hounds go, we're keeping it from them for a bit.;) No use gettin' the huntin' buddies wound up worrying! Hey Fife! I'm counting on you to drag me off to the occasional "Spring Business Forum" Hint, Hint. (Ethay urkeytay easonsay) I'd be happy to work out a mutually beneficial plan to do a joint project out at Merriams and Merriams' (if you catch my drift.:winking: :winking: )
  18. Best Christmas Gift Ever!

Yeah, Celeste, I've begun to learn that the proper reply to almost everything is, "You are the most beautiful woman on the face of the earth, and pleasing you is what pleases me. In what way may I best serve you right now?" LOL I'm so excited I can hardly speak! My folks have been waiting as patiently as they could, but my sis and I have been slow out of the gate. Now we are both expecting, Tricia and I in August, My sis in June. I sure hope it is a cool, dry spring this year!
  19. TGS worth $$$

This board has been worth a great fortune to me. And that isn't even counting the money portion of what it has brought me! Don't sell, Beth and Rod!:)
  20. Rick Warren & Obama

There can be virtue in hypocrisy. If we agree that hypocrasy is doing other than what we say, we have all done this. Here is the virtue: How many times have we said things like, "When that kid gets home, I'm going to kick his azz!" ? When the child does come home, he gets only a figurative kick (usually). There are numerous better examples I'm sure, but I believe I'm hijacking Jeff's thread, so I'll quit. Sorry, Jeff! I don't know enough about either of these guys yet. I'll comment more after some research. Merry Christmas, Y'all!
  21. Rick Warren & Obama

If anybody took the time to read the long post I last posted in this thread, did it seem familiar? It is a famous two hundred year old sermon preached in puritan New England. It is notable because the author insists, and backs his claims with scripture, that God knows already who will and who won't go to heaven. Remember that God is omnicient and all powerful, so we are predestined by Him to our final disposition, regardless of the acts of our lives. No good deed can save us. Because of this he says we should all tremble every day because we are "Sinners in the Hand of an Angry God." He says that god abhors us as we abhor disgusting bugs, and that he can hardly stand not to throw us into the flames of hell, much as we might dispose of a cockroach in a fire. When I hear inflexible, dogmatic Christians or Muslims justifying their particular brands of religion to others by selecting phrases from the bible as interpreted by some charismatic leader, I begin to worry. Any of these people might be right, but I'll keep my religion between myself and my God, and will endeavor to keep the faith of my government leaders in mind while I vote. I don't want to be represented by those without faith, but it needn't be mine. I just wish it to be moral. I'd like us all to go to heaven, but I don't believe that there are some rules that God has to follow that might send an otherwise good man to Hell for not worshipping just so. I'll bet that God will judge as He will, and that I'll be surprised by some of those judgements, since I don't know anything about anybody else's relations with Him. I just bet that God can do whatever He wishes, and that He acts in Love. I'd posit that I can't be the judge of where anybody else will be going, and that I'm not worried about it. I'll tend to the log in my own eye for now. Merry Christmas to all of you. May you have peace in your life, and rest everafter.
  22. Can I brag, a little?

I'd die without a bike, I'm glad to hear somebody has a new scoot, whenever I hear it. I just wish I had time to work on an antique, they are my real two-wheel love. Check these sites for some of the coolest scoots/scooter guys ever. www.baxtercycle.com www.chromeclassics.com www.dansmc.com www.vintagerider.com Bill, you gotta let me know what you think after you have had the bike a while, I don't know anybody with one of the new Sporties. They look really good. Mike, that Bonnie America is a cool ride, too. I thought of buying one a while back, but events intervened. Have you ridden one yet? There are lots of bike guys here, I've noticed. Cool folks. Good choice, Bill.
  23. Merry Christmas from the other side of the Pond

I can't say it better than the others already have, but let me joiin the chorus. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Roger!:lghohoho:
  24. My daughters First Christmas Tree

Happy first Christmas to Emma! She is a cutie, Don. You are blessed for sure.:)
  25. Hiring Illegals

I've been saying this for years. It isn't worker that are coddled, it is consumers used to buying products made in the third world by slaves. How cheap would an American factory worker have to work to compete with the chinese workers that don't even make ten bucks a day?
