I was reading the October 2009 cleaner times, and came across Beth's article. She quoted everybody, well, except for me. Nice job Beth. What really cracked me up though, was in the classified section in the back. There was a guy that had an ad in for consulting on roof cleaning. Odd enough that he was offering services for that, but he was out of Phoenix. I have lived here nearly all of my life, and got a couple of gray hairs. I have never seen a roof to be cleaned in Phoenix. Makes me wonder what his expertise is, and why he thinks that he can offer it.

Hmm, Ego must be the new bugaboo word in the industry. I do think that this is humorous coming from you. -

That is cool. To be able to go to a foreign country at that age is an amazing experience. -
I am sorry, but I did not request your services, as excellent as they were.

Please Help me Ultilize my Current Equipment
Scott Stone replied to Plazaman's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
You can use quick couplers to join the hose. Make sure you get couplers that are for water and rated for the pressure. They are available where you bought your pressure washer, or any pressure washing distributor. The tips are also available from a pressure washing distributor or at the store where you bought your machine. They are typically black and have a large orifice. I would use the stock gun until it fails. In my opinion, the more expensive guns are worth the money. They are easier to use, they are not as hard to hold open, and just generally last longer. -
silver eagle pressure washing equipment
Scott Stone replied to mfddad's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I have never used one or bought one. I have heard that their quality is lacking. I know that there are some on this forum that have bought silver eagle stuff, though, and they might get you a better response. -
looks like an EZ3040. They are direct drive pumps with those specifications.

I am with Grant. Let the insurance companies sort it out.

I do not understand this. You whine constantly about not having enough work, extol the virtues of being a painter, and even have it in you company name, and your screen name here. Obviously, and rightfully, you are proud of your profession, and you get calls for work that you turn down? That does not make sense to me. Bid it, give them a price at what you consider a fair wage, and let them make the decision. If they say no, you are out nothing. If they say yes, well, you could possibly have a good money making job. Sounds like a win-win situation to me.

Exhaust flex tubing

Napa, Flexible exhaust tubing. They have it, or should. -
That is a bummer, Gene. It is too pretty to just be a garage queen, though.

Scott Stone replied to Ron Musgraves's question in The Club House
No, here is the evil secret. They call Ron and complain. Ron says,"we will be right out and remove it." They say, "We don't want you or your company on your property." Ron says, "okay. Sorry." Ron then calls me, and says, "Scott, so and so is angry about their stencil. Here is their number." Looks good to me. -
Peronne? I lived in Amiens for a short time. I will have to look and see where Peronne is on a map now. Now that I have looked, there is an American Military Cemetary just south of there, if I am not mistaken. For those of you that do not know, that is definitely not the most scenic part of France. It iskind of like Kansas with a foreign language, though the Somme valley itself is not bad.

Look at my rig drawings and tell me what Im missing!
Scott Stone replied to zhamilton89's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
It really would not be hard to do. A few feet of silicone hose, a couple of hose clamps and a cap should do it. You could also rig it to fill up from either side. The Kill switch is an interesting idea, too. -

If you move the pressure washer to the front of the trailer it will have multiple benefits. You will have more weight on the tongue of the trailer, so that it will tow better. It will not be so hard on the machine from bouncing around. It will also be easier to fill the equipment. When you pull up to a pump, you will not as likely need to wait for the guy in front of you to be done, before you can pull up and fill your machines. -

The diagram shows two pressure washers on the front of the trailer, with the Vacuum system on the back. You really need a rigid trailer to mount a machine on the back of the trailer. If youa re buying the PEV, let me know, I might be able to save you a little bit of money. -
Those are high end. Mine is kind of similar, but the pressure vessel is a bit smaller and uses a static primary seperation tank as part of the pressure or vacuum system.

Zack, What type of reclaim rig are you going to be using? I think that will dictate how much vacuum hose you can run. I know that I can run up to 600 feet of vacuum hose on mine, but I have a 24 horse fury system. I actually never run more than 200 feet, but I do it on two machines for a total of 400 feet. You are welcome to look at it. Just let me know. -
Which type of reclaim rig are you going to get? One like Hydrotek's little rig, or a rig that is large enough to do a parking garage?

FBO= Federal Business Opportunities. For what it is worth, many contracts are searchable on the city websites you are interested in dealing with. You can often find the previous contract, and what the contractor was charging, as well. Nearly every purchasing office has a solicitation page, and depending on local laws, there is a cutoff on what the price point is to be posted on the websites, or put out for competitive bid.
-
There are multiple services out there that provide this service. I like them because they do not require a percentage for each job or a cost per lead. You can also subscribe to the local governments purchasing departments to receive job notifications, which are really few and far between, until you get established with them. The FBO bids are pretty interesting, and there are building wash bids, and such that come up from time to time.

This is not competition

The wand marks are indicative of a homeowner, but that is just a guess. If I had done that, I would have blamed a hack contractor, too. -
I bought some flowers today (almost)

Aren't you glad you took the detour? It always works out for the best, sometimes it is to find a customer that you do not want to service, but it is still the best.
