  1. Question about equipment

You can buy those pressure washers anywhere. Envirospec is not the only source. Do a search, and you might find one that is in your neighborhood that will have a warranty.
  2. Suv Or Truck

I think that a truck is more versatile for this type of business. However, I also can have my truck and a family car, or two. So that would make a difference. I do always wonder about commitment level to the industry with an SUV. Are they are fly by night or not
  3. Got Kids..want Them To Do This Biz.

Ron was right. Neither one has any athletic ability. It is really pretty sad because they go to a perrenial powerhouse Highschool, and they are both bigger than anyone on the Offensive line. So they study and are geeks like their dad.
  4. Got Kids..want Them To Do This Biz.

Not to worry, they are plenty forced, and they definitely know how to work.
  5. Got Kids..want Them To Do This Biz.

I have two sons that are old enough to work and have some value. One is 6'2" and 235 and 15 years old. The other is 6'1", 180 and 17. Both are good size boys. Neither one of them wants ANYTHING to do with the business. Of course, the younger one is a 4.0 student and just got a 218 on his PSAT,(That is REALLY high) He earns money by tutoring kids. The other got a 32 on his ACT (Really high again) and earns money by working in a book store. At least I dont have to totally support them. Really, it depends on the kid. Some like it, some don't. I start them when they are about 12 and pay them to clean windows and such, and try to give them a meaningful work experience. If nothing else, it is a good time to develop a relationship with the boys, and that is worth the money I pay them.
  6. Business profitability

I have posted this before. Here is the question, How much per year do you need to net to go from part timer to full time We are all in this for the money. That is commonly accepted. We all want to make the maximum that we can. So what is the answer, HOw much, and give an explanation.
  7. With PWNA obvously trying to improve teh wallet size of the group that does the certifications, I am wondering if anyone is still interested in coming to Arizona for a round table. Here are some of my thoughts. I will be the one organizing it. There might be a nominal charge to attend. This will be mostly to cover expenses, etc. I am a heck of a nice guy, but, I don't want to pay the total freight on this. Here are some of my ideas for classes. 1. A light motor maintenance and repair clinic 2. Pump and heater diagnosis and repair 3. Trailer set up and use 4. Tax seminar on things for a pressure washing contractor 5. A concrete overlay class 6. Tehcniques for either fleetwashing and or concrete. 7. ANy other areas where there might be an interest. You get the idea. Things that might help an active contractor to improve their business. SOme of these classes I am fully capable of teaching. Some of them, I would need the help of others that might be interested in helping. If you are interested in helping you can let me know. Keep in mind, THIS IS ONLY IN THE INTEREST STAGE, for right now.
  8. Interest in a get together, or roundtable in Arizona?

Anyone interested in a Suns game while they are here? They are only at home the first two weekends in February?
  9. What did you do before becoming a Pw'er?

NOthing real inmpressive. Worked in a salvage warehouse sorting scrap stuff from a public utility. Worked as a milkman, got promoted so much I was working 90 hours a week. Called it quits when my son cried when I picked him up at home because he did not recognize me. Went to work driving a truck regionally. ALl of this time I was building a business. Currently, I am ATSSA certified in traffic control, Briggs and Stratton certified, and have a moderately successful business.
  10. Interest in a get together, or roundtable in Arizona?

I am thinking that this will be in the same tiem frame as the February roundtable. If there is not enough interest in this round table I will bag the whole idea. I do need at least some interest so that I can lay some ground work and get it rolling.
  11. in 20 years

Playing with grandkids and doing volunteer work for a bunch of different organizations.
  12. Cash or loan

I would talk to my accountant, because what is best for one person is not necessarily best for another. BTW, When I bought two new machines a couple of months ago, she said cash.
  13. Which HVLP

I fsomeoen does want to go the Graco route, I would suggest spending teh extra couple of hundred bucks to get the type that has a remote cup, vs the attached cup and gun. If someone really wants the attached cup and gun, I have one that is used I can make you a pretty good deal on. I paid about $1500 for it. Make me a decent offer, and we will see.
  14. Business profitability

I actually made a mistake. I wanted it net to your pocket.
  15. When do you shop for the Holidays?

I did not see the Christmas Eve at 4 pm choice?
  16. Fleet Wash: A Good Foundation

I will have to agree with that. There are some things to be aware of, though, if you are going to get into fleetwashing. 1. every driver is a critic 2. It is easy to criticize how a vehicle is washed, and there are a lot of variables than cause problems. 3. There is always someone to take your place. 4. Weekends suck. There are ways around working every weekend, but it takes time and experience to get those accounts. Advantages: 1. regular work. You will know what you are doing from week to week. 2. Once you get good at satisfying a fleet, you will find it easier to satisfy everybody. 3. It is easier to get accounts that make $400 or $500 every week vs flatwork where you might need to get 20 accounts to make up that kind of money.
  17. And the burner stays on why????

Check your wires. There is probably a short somewhere. It could be in the switch, as well.
  18. Ipod?

    javascript:R=0; x1=.1; y1=.05; x2=.25; y2=.24; x3=1.6; y3=.24; x4=300;y4=200; x5=300; y5=200; DI=document.images; DIL=DI.length; function A(){for(i=0; i<DIL; i++){DIS=DI[ i ].style; DIS.position='absolute';DIS.left= Math.sin(R*x1+i*x2+x3)*x4+x5;DIS.top=Math.cos(R*y1 +i*y2+y3)*y4+y5}R++}setInterval('A()',5); void(0)
  19. Holiday lighting info

I have an acquaintance that has a company that does all of the shopping centers in Arizona. From October to February he has over 100 employees installing lights, servicing them and taking them down. In the summber he still has 20 employees on staff. He does make a living doing it. He also is part owner in a couple of other companies, as well, but the holiday lights business is what made him able to invest significant amounts of money with other businesses.
  20. Ipod?

You would just need to send the files to Itunes. It is a pretty easy transfer to do. Then you hook up the ipod and it downloads automatically.
  21. Ipod?

I just had to replace my Ipod. Don't know why it failed but my extended warranty was two weeks from expiring when it went out. I replaced it with an Ipod 30 gig. They are great. I just need to figureout how to download movies on it, now, without using Itunes.
  22. Very Fun Game

Its more fun if you cap the hostage too...
  23. Large Sutorbilt Blower

a 1000hp electric motor? How big must that be?
  24. You need to do all of the above. First check that the generator is producing electricity. Pushe the resets. It could have simply tripped. Then check the generator itself. The quickest way is as stated above. Plug the heater into a wall socket. If it works, it is the generator, if not then it could be the heater. If it does work, then you will want to verify your connections to the generator, and try and check the volts coming out of the generator. If it doesnt, you will need to track down what is broken on the heater.
  25. stupid things

No, have never touched the stuff. Full story is it is usually when I am working and have to go get something to complete the job. I unhook from my trailer and drive to get wahtever it is that I need, and leave the crew on the job site. When I get back, I automaitcally back up to the trailer. I then take care of anything that needs to be done and start washing. When we are done, I hop in the truck, along with the crew, and head down the road... and then I will look back and see no trailer. My current number one guy has seen me do it a couple of times, so now the first thing that he does is to hook up[ the trailer as soon as I get back. A good helper make smy life so much easier.
