What's you vehicle of choice...and why?
Scott Stone replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
WHy not get a single axle tractor? Not as easy to find, but they are out there and then you do not need to worry about the extra tires, and all the other things that come with it. -
NY City Powerwashing trucks
Scott Stone replied to John T's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Wasn't there an article in Cleaner times on them a few years ago? Maybe it was another magazine. From what I remember they have a huge hose reel in the back of them and they use them to clean subway stations, etc. Kind of cool. Funny that EVERYTHING is locked up, even when in use. -
Proper mounting of tank and machine

If it was me, with the trailer that you describe, I would put it cross ways. What is more, I would put as big a square of steel plate as I could do. I have had the bolts pull through a wood floor before. Now all of my wash trailers have either a steel plate floor, which works okay, or Expanded metal, which I like a lot better. Jut what I would do if I was you. -

Borrow Celestes until you can get a quality piece. Otherwise you will be setting yourself up for frustration. -
What happened? For whatever reason, I did not receive that email.

Dateline: June 12, 2006 Somewhere in Arizona. I was hired by a local governemtn to clean the underside of three over passes of mud bird nests. I am thinking that it is mid-June, well past Spring, for this neck of the woods, and multiple days over 105 with a few 115's thrown in to make sure no one gets cold. I start on said project, and notice that there are still a lot of adult birds flying around. I guess that was not too unusual, since it was a bit cooler under the bridge. So I start on the first pile of mud and knock it down with a shovel. NO problem, totally uninhabited, adn did not even have a bird fly out of it. This is a good thing. I start the next nest, bad news, two baby birds in them. One was naked, waiting for a shower I suppose (he got it) and the other was fully feathered, but not quite flight certified. This is a bad thing. Especially since this bridge was over a dry water way that is used as a combination walkway/bicycle path. Fortuantely, not many people are out. At this point I call teh local heartless bureaucrat, and ask him if he wanted me to continue. I certainly did not want Buffy and Edgar discussing the plight of these birds lack of flight with me. Said heartless Bureacrat told me to continue with the project, because the Head heartless bureaucrat/city worker wanted it done now. I am thinking to myself, "great, I am going to get confronted by 500 bleeding hearts about these two little birds." I start on the next nest. There were about 35 holes in the nest, which means a potential of 35 baby birds. I start on the first nest, a bird falls from the sky, the next nest, another one falls. All told, I figure that there were about 20 baby birds on the ground by the time I get done, and I am developing an audience, with people picking up the birds to nurse them, nd get them independent. This is getting really bad. I call the Head Heartless Bureaucrat/ city worker, and explain the situation to him. ( for what it is worth, that is what I called him on the phone. I have known him for a while, and have a really good relationship with him) He about soiled himself. Telling me to get out of there as fast as I can , and leave any mess tehre was. He also apologized up one side and down the other because, he too, thought the babies were gone. I have yet to hear of any fallout from the loyal local citizens, but I think that there is bound to be something. But now, my beloved children now address me as the baby killer. (except my 8 year old who will barely talk to me.)

True Confessions: I am a baby killer :(

No that is somethign that I find so morally reprehensible that I would be ashamed to admit it, let alone make a bit of a joke of it. -
TO Barstows credit, it is convenient, but, I prefer living somewhere cool if I am going to be in a small town. The only reason I am where I am is because my family and my wifes family are no more than 30 minutes away. If you knew how large our families were you would be amazed. We just all happened to settle here. What is interesting is that we all lived at least a couple of years somewhere else, except for my littlest sister, and we all came back home.

Hotshot, I have been to Barstow. NO thanks, the only place worse is Needles, except that they have a river.

they are all Fords except for one. You will see the Toyota peeking out around my Red truck. Three of the Fords are diesel. The one regular cab pickup is a 5.4 liter engine. It runs surprisingly well, considering the type of life it leads. As for buying new trucks, I give the crew my hand me donw and don't have to worry as much about break downs. SOmetimes I like to sleep and not be a mechanic.

if you......you might be a pressure washer

Look what's for sale....
Scott Stone replied to EnviroClean's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Just my thought, despite all of the other stuff that was posted, if he is doing $315k and making $85K, there is something wrong. I do not know how he can justify making so little, unless his prices are way too low, and he is busting his rear to get there. Something does not add up, but then, I have beenwrong before... And another thing, those rigs look like crap. The one on the left has to be at least 15 years old, and I bet the other one is not a whole lot newer. Something stinks on the BBS. -
Heck no, I'm not an addict, of course, I am on vacation sitting in my hotel with my laptop, but I could give it up any time.

How much $ in gas per week
Scott Stone replied to CLASSICPW's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Not Ron, he is barely making it, calling me up to buy him lunch all the time. It is really pitiful... On a serious note, You can make as much money with one or two crews as you can with a bunch of crews. It is in the organization, traingn and finding the talent of each employee. That is really the secret to success in this business. -

**********/board/upload/showthread.php?p=9390#post9390 So Alan, My curiosity got the best of me, and I looked up your original post on ***. So you are running the original hoses on your pressure washer? How many hours does that thing have on it now? -
Makes you realize how insignificant all of us are.

Gee Chris, Let me guess... E-SPec Welcome to the club. Best part is, trying to get service. Good luck as they treat you like you are an idiot for even trying to get serviced. If you are lucky, maybe even John himself will call you and hassle you. Then you know have made it. I now spend more and have ZERO problems since I stopped using them. -
Power Washer's Work Wasn't Clean

I am not sure that I will ever understand the criminal mind. How in the world did he think that he could keep going on and not get caught? -
How come EVERY time there is a company that has multiple locations they want you to give them a price for all the locations at once, and then only give you one location? Personally, I feel it is dishonest, and trying to take advantage of someone. I get really tired of that. Scott

How much $ in gas per week
Scott Stone replied to CLASSICPW's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I am about $1000 a week. It does all depend on how hard I want to work. Scott -
I had one of my guys working last night. He is a really nice little guy. MBA and industrial engineer from Bogota Colombia. He is here legally as a political refugee from Colombia because he wanted to protect his wife who was a University Professor and little girl. Some stupid yaahoo came up and threatened him that he would hunt him down if he showed up for work today. Coming from his backjground, that was enough and either I need to get him covered for tonight, or I need to work for him tonight. Not like I don't have enough work already. I am swamped mainly because I refuse to hire Illegal residents of the United States, no matter the color of their skin or the direction of their travel.
