  1. In the scope of this type of contract, it absolutely is. That is why you have back ups and plans so that you can keep a project on schedule. That is the difference between working these types of government jobs, that have a hard time line, and doing a residential or commercial job, where greater flexibility is allowed. Even though it does not seem reasonable to you, you are dealing with people that are used to having something on stand by in case there is a breakdown. They don't care if you are a small contractor. They have plenty of large contractors on the line that would be more then happy to come in with all the equipment that is needed to complete a particular project. It is all about the competition.
  2. Whne you are bidding on those types of jobs, or even government contracting jobs in our industry, you need to have a back up plan. In all honesty, it is really hard for me to feel bad for the guy, because it seems he was ill prepared and had no back up plan. My guess is he thought he would save a few bucks, or that this was his big break and bid over his head. Kind of like a guy with one of those little hydrotek units that thinks that is sufficient to clean a garage. They aren't and trying to use one for that is really over taxing the resources. As for the clean up, well, it was probably a term of the contract. Right or wrong, he should have been in compliance.
  3. Hot Connection

Well, since it is a long term problem with Honda engines, I have taken to replacing the plug with spade connectors when it wears out. Not super pretty, but it seems to work for me.
  4. Hydraulic fluid/Engine Oil on Cobblestone

I would avoid muriatic acid, it will literally eat the concrete and if it is pavers, it will change the surface and texture. If it was me, I would go the kitty litter route, and sort of grind it in so that it can get into the pores of the pavers. If it is cobblestone, and John had the correct description, I would just pour it on, because they are a lot harder then pavers.
  5. Yep, not smart to make attacks on someone that has probably done more wood in the past month then you have in your current wood craziness.
  6. One bad gun.

And here I pay $30 or $40 for agun. I like getting a good gun, because they last the best in hard usage. But then, my machines run 8 hours a day, day in, day out. Not like a deck guy.
  7. deleted

My goodness, how come they look younger and younger. Congratulations to you, and success and safety to him. This is an american success story.
  8. Why not? I do not do any residential stuff. In the only HOA I have belonged to, the HOA paid the water bill. So, I would have a couple of hundred feet of hose and hook at one house, and drive down the street, then hook at the furthest house I could reach and do it again.
  9. Customer call backs

I hate, loathe, and despise complaints. I take them personally, and if I get one, EVERY ONE involved quickly develops a very bad day. My guys do not like a mad Scott. They also do not want to have to work with me. Seems they are always way more tired after spending a day or two working with me. Then they like to call me old man. ;)
  10. 5 gallon bucket

Dang, Alan is alive...I thought he went to the great beyond, or East LA, or something.

  12. Working hat

I prefer wide brimmed hats, but that is just me. Gotta keep the sun off of me, fragile as I am.
  13. How much sleep do you get?

It depends, but it is often around 6 hours. I really wish it was 8, but I have not been able to sleep that long for years.
  14. A strange thing happened yesterday...

I am sorry, but this is a family rated site...
  15. Renewing PWNA Members

I think Emerson needs to host a roundtable...I could talk my wife into that one.
  16. If it is a hammerhead, I dont think there is a wheel kit. You could do your own kit, just make sure that the wheels are in the locations that you need them, to be out of the way.
  17. This sounds professional and safe.... check this out.

So, Beth and Celeste, did ya go into biz together?
  18. F-250

Don't change anything and it will pull, too. I have pulled way too much with my truck, and the only thing that apparently suffered was the mileage, it dropped to 5.4 mpg. With a 10 k trailer, I get around 11 mpg. Yes, it was very heavy.
  19. Which machine

I will gladly second delux, formerly Delco. They really are the cream for machines, in my opinion. For a second choice, southside equipment.
  20. We only have 1-2 more good months

A slowdown? What is that? I Like being able to work year round.
  21. Dont **** Beth of.

Oh face it Beth, all of those of us in the know how inveterately evil you are...not. I think Mike was just having a bad day.
  22. Dont **** Beth of.

Besides this post being ridiculous, I think it is totally inappropriate. I dont know or care what happened between you and Beth, she owns this forum and has rules in place. Did it occur to you that you violated them, and got the same reprimand as someone would that was in Spokane, Washington? Really, you need to engage your brain before you post this type of drivel.
  23. I need a hat!!!

I am a tilly fan. I have some that are bleached white from tan. They have a lifetime guarantee and are spf50. The perfect hat for me
