insurance is for accident's bonding can be diffrent things. You can get a "bid bond" You can bond your employee's you can even get bonded out of jail. This type is money insurance. Someone else bonds you for X amount of money. If you dont return the bonder has to pay your tab. Bonding am employee is insurance againt theft. Like if you were window washing in someone's home and a ring was missing. That type of thing. You are researched by the insurance co. before they will bond you. This is what i believe to be true, i could be mistaken?

encourgement. I am buying a comp. program that helps with format. It darn near write's itself. They make it so darn easy. -
and every gun ive used leaks in short order no matter what one i buy or how much i spend. It really get's me mad. Im thinking of going to a flow through gun and a ball valve. Dave olsen just uses the ball valves and no gun. I have not tried that yet. Seem's uncomfortable and hot to hold. I have the parts. i also use a duel lance most of the time. The MAGNUM 5000 from espec is $20 and i throw them away every 2 weeks.

your opinion "hurricane brush" tool, toy,or junk? -
if you have a site to do a little testing[homeowner not home] You might try this just to see how you like it. Use Dawn[origional not the ultra] in a mix of EFC38 and a FOAMER. Shootdown one side of the house and let dwell untill most of the suds are gone. Then rinse. I like to add a wax to my rinse water. This takes longer then the typical bleach mix but the EFC38 is much safer. Try it once and see if you like it. It is, in my opinion, not that cost effective compared to some housewash's but work's well.

how to restain decks ???
ron p replied to Jeff's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
i have not stripped a deck with this type of sealer on it yet but here is my thought. Has anyone ever stripped vynial wallpaper? They sell a little gizmo called the PAPER TIGER. It has little rollers under it that have teeth/pins that punture the paper as you roll it around the paper. This allows the chem to get past the waterproof paper and get to the glue where the chem has the correct effect. I think that the HD80 just cant get to the wood to breakdown the langlin/dead wood so you can strip it. I think HD80 works because of the chemisty of the wood not the chemisty of the finnish. I wonder if some kind of spiked roller would effect the usefullness of the HD80 in cases that are stated in the above post's. The spikes could be more like the tip of a knife and rolled WITH THE GRAIN to min. damage to the wood. Anyone think im on track here or way off base? You could have a shr-flo pump set-up that coated the roller with chem as you roll it. It would need to be weighted. Maybe a cylinder that you fill with water? -

instead of useing brand names i will teach what each ingreadent in the said product's dose. I have no interest in selling brand names for someone else. I want people to understand the basic reasons why one cleaner works better then another. Then you can read the MSDS and be a better educated consumer. This way you dont end up with a shed full of wasted money/pails. Remember a very, very small % of pressure washer start-up contractor's even know about the BBS. So a lot of them are still doing things the hard way. I was thinking of linking the book to a vidio series. The vidios would be the hands on. Then maybe suggest a reg school for people that want to go that far. Then equipment co. and so on. What do you think? -

your timeing was perfect. I needed a little boost right now. I am going to write a book on the buissness of pressure washing for people that are looking for start-ups. Truth is most of the content can be found right on the bbs. In my opinion most of the articals written in cleaner times come from questions asked right here. I know BETH is working on a book right now but has it on the back burner. The book will be only 10% on how to wash. The rest will be guide around pittfalls. Chems, safety, selling, priceing, equipment, epa, web sites, internet sales over local suppliers,forms,insurance,ect.... basicly just re-write the questions asked here and do the research to ans. them more fully and without the personal comment's. It should be a no-brainer. in high school i was a less then a c student and would have been worse if not for shop class's. I did'nt enjoy learning untill i found a computer. I used our co pressure washer to was a couple of trucks for 2 weekends. Then i started looking on-line. Everything ive learned was from the computer and hands on. I give the most credit to BIGBOY and he is the reason i post things i think will help other people. He spent the most time with me and tought me how to start making money. -

EFC38 will be fine. Dont use heat on the painted cement, it will dull it. As far as doing house/building est. you will find that the best and fastest way is to go to home depot and buy a measuring wheel. Then you simply walk around the house with it. this will give you the lin.ft. Then multi. that number by the number of stories. in my case its like this. the house is 50x100 and 2 stories thats 300 lin ft =$1.00 per lin ft I then charge .50 more per lin ft per story. $150 so i charge $450. in your area you might never get this amount to wash a house. You may need to add extras to get this amount. This might be cheap in your area? If i were you i would figure your sq ft price then figure out the lin ft Then adj the lin ft price to match the sq ft price and change the way i measure. Your way has too meny variables. Roof pitch,dormers,ect...after you wash 3 or 4 houses you can eyeball the jobs, get a feel for the customer and know when to stick to your price and when you need to tweek it down a bit. P.S. go with the customers attitude and questions about your service. NOT THE TYPE OF HOUSE, CAR THEY DRIVE, OR SIZE OF THE BOAT IN THE YARD. They know you can see these things and are on the look out for people thinking they have money to throw away. Stick to what you know and how your going to do it. VALUE is the most important thing. Then the security feeling that their property is in good hands. You do this with 2 major things. one, know what your talking about. Two,look like you know what your talking about. The customer will make the same assumptions you do when you see their property. Look like a rag-a-muffin get paid like one, IF they will even hire you? Look professional, sound professional get paid like a professional. -

Sodium Per.....Hydro.....Hypo ?
ron p replied to Earl Johnson's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Sodium percarb. is sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide, they keep a high alkilinity to boost the power of the peroxide. After you mix it with water is will self exsaust in about 20 to 40 min and become mostly salt water. It is used for a lot of things like cleaning decks, laundry detergent, carpet cleaners,ect... It can be used as a house wash but wont kill mold as fast as bleach. Unlike bleach percarb has no LYE in it so it is safer for plant's.[EFC38] Sodium hydroxide-is LYE[caustic salt] very corrisive. Care must be used when used. Also it will etch glass and metal. Be carefull of your dwell times because LYE is used in paper making. It breaks down the gluclose[langlin] that holds the tube like fibers together. You can get a lot of FURRING of the softer woods. It is used to remove stubborn finnish's[HD80] SODIUM HYPERCHLORITE-found in bleach[5 to 6 %] and pool supply[12%] go and take a look at www.chlorair.abka.com then go to the bottom and click BLEACH. I am a pressure washer and not a chemist so ive done my homework and this is so far the best i can understand each of the chems you wanted to know about. Hope it helps -

just think of a dual wand just as it's name implies. You have two wands in one. Yes most use a soap tip on one side so they can use the downstreamer and the other side a pressure tip for doing the work. Yes you loose gpm by opening both sides at one time. How much gpm depend's on how far you open the opisite side. A little crack you wont notice much. The more you open it the more you'll notice. A couple of quick notes here on the duel wand and deck work. Remember that PSI is rated 3 inc from the tip to the surface. Who wash's a deck that close? So your distance from tip to surface also reg. the pressure. Next is the size of the fan or deg of the spray. A 40 deg tip will loose the psi a lot faster then a 15 deg tip just by moveing back a couple of inc. from the surface. More of a shotgun pattern. Next is most chems stop working when the dry on the surface. Misting with just water can delute the org chem and make for harder work and over use of pressure. If you have a duel wand and the chem hooked to the downstreamer you can apply more chem and keep it stronger. Just remember it takes X amount of time for the chem to reach the tip.[X depends on your wash unit and langth of pressure line] If you shoot a whole deck with HD80 or EFC38. Let it dwell. Then start to clean/strip a good part of that deck on a hot day will get dry. If you keep misting it with just water your deluting the chem and greatly reducing the effectiveness of it. One twist of the handle and 20 sec later im shooting more chem. You can "flash" the tuff part's with a second dose. REMEMBER, PRESSURE JUST WASH'S AWAY THE WORK THAT THE CHEM DID. PRESSURE IS NEVER USED TO DO THE CLEANING. CHEMS CLEAN PRESSURE WASH'S IT AWAY. PRESSURE = WEAR. Even guy's who do flatwork without chem. all they are doing is wearing the top of the cement. -

quality chem like beth here sells and you should'nt need more then 500 to 800 psi. You should also look into useing a duel wand. That way you control the psi at the wand. No need for 10 diffrent tip sizes for diffrent types of woods. -

ron p replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
your wash unit should be able to draw from about 4 ft above the water. Remember that a TANK on a job like this could be as simple as an inflateable kiddie pool. Garden hose to fill the pool. Supply line from wash unit to pool. leave garden hose running. No need for all that if your working on a fresh water lake. What are the EPA laws about washing decks over water where you are? Pressure treated wood contains arsinic and washing/rain wash's that into the water and can kill plant's and fish. I would'nt even know how to refinnish a deck that had a sealer on it, that was over a lake. -
