  1. hey tom that black is caused by passing cars and truck's Have you ever used the 2 step method of cleaning? You shoot it with an acid then shoot it with a base? then rinse. It's not dangerous if your safe about it. I'll say your best bet would be a pospheric acid [as in the same stuff in your coke bottle in your fridge] followed by a good sod. hyd. based soap. Both applied with an x-jet and washed with an ext. wand. A good soduim hydroxide soap should do it by it's self. Do they still make BROWN DERBY in a mix kit?
  2. im an old friend

just came bye to say hello Wow Beth your site is really something now. I remember your first day. Ive got an old employee looking to do a start-up so i'll be checking in for a while. Hope all is well with you. p.s. ever hear from bigboy? I miss that ol' truckwasher.
  3. im an old friend

Hi all. I took a safe route and took the union glazier job. I sure miss the times where i was on my own and washing anything i could. The "what if's" are still bugging me. If i find the right guy, i might get back in the game. This time i'll set up for homeowner and contract flat work only. I refuse to go up against fleetwash. That suck's because i like washing truck's but hate the hour's i STILL HAVE 1 MORE YEAR TO GET VESTED IN MY UNION JOB then i can come and go and not freak about the winter's. Talk to you guy's again soon. Hey Ron, hope all is well.
  4. im just checking in to see how my old friends are doing. Hope all is well. I miss this buissness more then i thought i would ever feel. Customer's make everything worth it. It's not just the cleaning. Everyone want's to do a good job. It's the people that make it all worth it. Bringing a smile to a customer's face is worth it's weight in gold. Hey if you remember only one thing. Remember this. The customer is the boss. They are only your boss for a short time. Make your boss happy. Unlike other boss's ,They dont forget.
  5. Sunbrite came out with the hurricane brush. I have not tried it yet. If it works and ill guess it will for ready seal. Then take a look at this little gem. www.topoftheline.com click ''new products'' then check out the soda keg dispensers. The one with the brush head for tire detailing. Would'nt that be nice to use to do the railings? What is your opinion? I would prefer to use compressed air,not co2. ,i have a air compressor. If the brush from sunbrite works then no reason this should'nt. Wind wont effect it,no overspray, less wasted sealer, brushing dose a better job, easy cut in by the house, made from stainless steel, use the spray end to apply HD80,no pumping. Sounds good but before i invest i want more opinion's.
  6. Ron P a Question

Jersey is booming and their is a lot of people with a lot of money. If your a great washer and and a real good salesperson you can make money. The wash season is what suck's. Sometime's you can wash year round, other's you might only get in 9 to 10 month's. Depending on what you wash. Also this is the "home of FLEETWASH" The work can be found but I would highly suggest a full time salesperson and you keep on washing. Doing both will cause you to burn out and hurt you real bad in a short season. You will need a mix of homeowner work and commercial work to keep thing's in line. I have gotten no less then 5 flyer's dropped off in my mailbox for landscaper's turned pressure washer's this year[month]. I watched "Ned Steven's" [you can look them up on google.com] Tri-state gutter cleaner/installer/garage door/pressure washer wash a house last week. Cold water/no chem/all pressure very little english crew[2 guy's] do a wash job. Boy was I suprised how crappy the house looked when they collected their money and it was still wet. Hate to see the wand mark's when it was dry. 4 ft lance and working off a ladder in a 25 mile per hour wind. It was sad. Biggest drawback is the cheap work force but a real smart guy could use that to their own advantage. Very few hot water washer's. Very few truck washer's for small fleet's. Flatwork is priced way to low but is hardly ever done right. Good luck rottie72@aol.com

chem's are far less confuseing when you understand the compisition of them and how/why they work. 95% of stripper's are LYE or have a high percentage of lye.[lye has meny name's] Lye eat's paint. If you get the right delution and dwell you can strip off a tiny layer of paint and leave a new surface. This is basicly how your best [no-touch] gutter cleaner's work. They also have buffer's,thing's to increase dwell time's, and other cleaner's in the mix. As far as the streak's on sideing, they were there before you washed the house. Now that you have washed away the oxidised coating of protection.[formed by oil from the plastic and dirt] you have exsposed it. You will find that the sideing on that side will become chaulky in less then a year. It was neglected too long. Sideing IS NOT MAINT FREE nor is ANY DECK. As a matter of fact nothing is maint free. Even your maint free battery in your car need's the terminal's cleaned once a year. Wash with the "grain"[with the overlap's],dont shoot water directly at soffit's,outlet's,light's,ect... dont use a x-jet type shooter at a close angle to the sideing, it will go up into the weep's. Allway's rinse the glass first, Allway's rinse glass a min of three times. Never use a x-jet type shooter without the use of a mask and google's. We are not dealing with everyday chem's where most people's exspouser limit's are min. We use heavy concentration's and exsposed to over 1000% of the average person. Misted bleach-other then a quick sniff by the washing machine, most people would never get anything more then that. Think about that. Tide was designed to break down dirt. Then keep is suspended so the rinse water can remove it. It was also designed to do this for FABRIC not plastic. I see no harm in useing it but agree that citric based cleaner's out prefoarm the laundry soap's in house washing. Soap sud's help keep free dirt suspended and the foaming action also help's to lift dirt. If you never tried a foamer to wash a house, maybe you should. Nothing more impressive then a ton of sud's caked to the side of the house. Tip, add scented car wax to your mix and spend the extra $ on scented bleach. citrus is the best. Lastly, if you feel that to meny small guy's are takeing your customer's then do more then them. Do the INSIDE of the gutter's. Open the sreen/storm door and wash both side's. Wash the step's and porch. Go back with a micro-fiber towel and wipe off the glass you can easyily walk up to. Wash the curb in front of the house. In short worry about doing a good job and not about makeing sure your makeing $80 per hour. Charge a fair price for excellent work and you will allway's be busy.

  9. just wanted to say "hi"

it's been a LONG COLD WINTER. Customer's stacked like firewood and ive got no time. Anyone interested in my buissness? Give me shout. Must be willing to work EVERY WEEKEND. All day sunday is the biggest day. 30 truck's. very very nasty truck's. monmouth county NJ resident's only need apply. My concern is to my customer's. Took to long to get them just to loose them. Working forman is second choice, if someone need's a job. Will train but need to have some skill's. Backbone is truck washing. Residential second. Wide open market. very few hot water cleaner's around. The local hood cleaner is just about to go out and he has a huge market. Unlimited potential. could work 24/7 if you had the drive to do so. rottie72@aol.com I took a well paying union job. fyi thank's box truck, hot water skid new engine, pump, chem's,customer's,surface equipment, tank, x-jet,extenda wand, part's,rebuildable pump's,rebuildabe motor,ect...truck run's perfect and will do a break job for new owner. $10,000 to $12,000 depending on the amount of training needed. Truck is worth $6000 alone.
  10. just wanted to say "hi"

thank's guy's. if i dont end up selling the buissness, i'll go back to my trailer. Sell the truck and stay part time. I love to wash. If it wer'nt for winter you would'nt see me selling. You would see my buying. NJ build's 50 new home's every day. market is just going to get better and better.
  11. Your Favorite House Wash Brew

x-jet your wash mix and upstream your wax. Want sud's, use dawn and a foamer tip. Tony use's emulisfer plus from e-spec cascade is for cleaning and stop's some spot's. JET DRY is for use when you dont want spot's on glass. Have you seen the TV ad for the spot free car wash? It has a built in water filter. A water filter/softner is the very best way to go. I wish i had one. You could save a ton on chem's because you would use far less of them and do a better job.
  12. unloader,downstreamer,spray tip's,jumper hose,pressure hose,funnel,fuel can's,safety kit,eye wash,fuel filter,fire exstingusher,rubber gloves and saftey goggle's.
  13. deck

$1000 plus cost of sealer. no sanding,no nail set. Just strip, nuet, and seal. this should get you aprox $50 per hour.
  14. deck

are you going to strip and seal the underneath?
  15. Wood Restoration: Raw wood left out in the weather will cause the wood to dry out, check[crack],rot, decay, get bug eaten,ect... Wood is made up of long tube's and glue[laglin, it's a natual glucose that hold's the tube's together. These tube's were used to transfer water and nuet. in the living tree.] Slow growing tree's have tighter tube's[oak] then fast growing tree's[pine]. The bigger the tube the less dense the wood. Less dense mean's it can break down faster. When it come's to restoring wood in our line of work, it simply mean's to remove any previous coating's of sealer. Remove the dead tube's and get down to a new layer of undestroyed tube's that are still together with good langlin. Then apply a sealer to protect that freash new layer. Some wood is just to far gone to do this and a good contractor will be able to tell his customer about the limit's of his/her's work. Now if you want to learn about how to remove something it's best to know how it was built. In other word's "get to know your diffrent kind's of sealer's used in your area. The more you know about what they are made from the better chance you can find what would be best to remove them. Sometime's a job might need a spoon and sometime's a shovel[if you get what i mean]. Lucky for you you found this site and you have a lot of info on a sod. hyd based sealer remover[HD80]. hd80 PROPERLY USED WILL MAKE EVERYTHING IVE SAID ABOVE AN OPTION TO LEARN BECAUSE THEY HAVE ALLREADY DONE ALL THIS HOMEWORK FOR YOU. So, now youve found your stripper. CONGRAT"S You've read all about it. You know how to safe use it. You follow all safety rule's and your ready to get started. remember this" PRESSURE IS WEAR" the more the pressure the more you wear the surface. You were hired to restore the surface, not add 5 year's of wear in 1 day. This mean's "WHEN EVER YOU ARE HIRED TO WASH ANY SURFACE, YOU USE THE LEAST AMOUNT OF PRESSURE TO GET THE JOB DONE" PRESSURE=WEAR=DESTRUCTION You need to wash the surface in a timely manner but not destroy it. Their are only 3 way's to reg pressure[in my book] TIP SIZE ,DISTANCE FROM TIP TO SURFACE,USE OF A DUEL LANCE. i use all three every time i work with wood. Now you have a chem stripper, the understanding of pressure, and a goal of removing the old sealer[or whatever]and removeing the dead wood layer to get to the good clean fresh wood. Congrat's agin[unless you fell asleep] Now you've applied your HD80 let it dwell and started washing. You think your doing OK but the wood is dark. That's OK BECAUSE THE SOD HYD IN the stripper will do that. To fix this you will need a nuet. to bring the PH level in the wood back to a nuet level. {oxalic acid or citric acid will do just fine] Now you've stripped, nuet and returned after 3 day's of sunshine. OH MY the whole deck look's like it grew hair! You used too much pressure. Now you have to remove all those fuzzie's. It's called "de-furring". Their are a number of way's to do this. Sanding,brushing,ect....[do a search on this to get all the diffrent way's] As your sanding you find that some of the fastener head's are sticking up. Now you have to re-set them. Congrat's again your better then 1/2 done. Now go back to your rig and get the all the tool's and supplie's you will need to apply your sealer. Good luck
  16. Faith vs. Fact (Creation vs. Evolution)

if you were never ever tought about religion. Would you ever even think of it? Through history people have prayed, sacraficed, murdered, been preudice, loved, hated, ignored, gotten greedy,molested,tourtured,mis-represented,and a ton of other thing's. This is because it's not GOD. It's the people that try to represent him. I believe in god. I dont believe in organised religion. Organised religion is helpfull in keeping the world population down. With out it we would have world peace and would use up what little is left of the earth. Ceaser killed about a million Hitler killed about a million Sadam took his share. America has taken a good bite.[with the most destructive weapon known to man] Gingus Kaun took about a million. Slavery within the last 125 year's has taken out quite a few. [still dose every day, by the way] Spain took out a lot of Aztec's People getting butchard every day for a lousy rock[diamond's] Kid's starving, as we throw out food every day. GOD IS COOL IT'S THE PEOPLE THAT SUCK. ADAM AND EVE SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN A CONDOM. I think i'll make a tee shirt with that on it and see how it sell's on ebay.
  17. Who Needs Trailers.

he should have bought a BRONCO. Maybe he use's methane fuel Talk about recycleing. Im pretty sure this guy rented the car from budget just BEFORE i rented it! Ive seen a sunroof before but but i think i would install that on the FLOOR of that car.
  18. Truck washing chemical

ask for a sample and try them yourself.
  19. Who Needs Trailers.

im suprised that can move that much weight. It's only 1 horse power. Must be nice to have a back up if your car dies. look's just like my x-boss on the right and his wife on the left.
  20. fence

for you guy's that like to do it by hand. I was wondering if you ever tried a "stain stick" from sear's? You know the tube handle that draw's in the stain and you push down on it to release the stain to the stain pad. I had to do some fence's that were between condo's and they only wanted one side done and not get any on the other side. These thing's worked pretty good[for that].
  21. Truck washing chemical

2 stepping dose'nt have to be done with HF. HF work's the best but any high PH soap applied onto a acid with low PH will work. Cirtic acid, phouspheric acid [his acid is in COKE THAT YOU DRINK] You can check out www.eacochem.com for buffered acid wash's and im going to guess that he dose 2 step but he might just be useing BROWN DERBY[it has other name's] and is a sod. hyd. based soap. HF is only as dangerous as you make it out to be. A gun is not dangerous untill you put a bullit in it. If it were not for HF i would'nt be in this buissness. I just could'nt make any money. $500 for 55 gal is not cheap. I deluite that 1 gal hf to 4 gal water and downstream at 10 to 1. Last's pretty long.
  22. A few Questions - Power Wash Equipment

detective stone here. up against the wall spread'em ahhh a gun a 45 deg. hand's behind your back. What you goin to do,what you goin to, when stone come's for you? badboy badbay. suspect in the kitchen with a new rig. Dont do the crime if you cant do the time. [can you tell i have a temp of 102? man the flu suck's!]
  23. A few Questions - Power Wash Equipment

can you fix equipment? Even with a good mechanic on the phone you still need some knowalge. It's hard to get a point accross when you keep telling the guy"you mean the black,thingy-ma-bobber" Weigh the extra cost of a local dealer to the saveing's of mail order. Dont forget shipping. If you do go out of state be sure to order everything at that time. Shipping later will kill you. Extra hose,o-ring's,quick dis-connect fitting's,unloader, jumper line, trigger gun, hose reel, downstreamer, and extra tip's are the MIN. to order with your unit. Any one of these thing's[except the reel] can shut you down in a min flat if it break's. You need this stuff on your truck at all times. Plus tool's and a cell phone. So once agin, if you dont want to stock this stuff, you need a local guy. If you dont buy from the local guy you will prob pay top price when you go down or need something.
  24. Percarbs

if you just bought OXI-CLEAN you would be sorely dissapointed. It would also cost you a ton more money. Most percarb's have filler's that do nothing but make it look like your getting more for your money. Oxi is the worst for doing this. EFC has other chem's in it that make it work better and give it CLING. without cling your not doing much on vert. because you need dwell time.
  25. fence

Hi Ronnie, You put this question in the wrong area but im sure someone will get it to the right spot. You should visit the STORE on this site and call beth. She will set you up with the right chem's to get a professional looking job on your first try:D You will need a stripper, nuet.,and a stain. All of which she sell's at very reasonable price's. Dont compare home depot junk chem's to her's. One is professioal and one is homeowner. HMMMMMMMM? rail's and steel post's? Ill guess you have the wood fence attached to metal line post's? You will need metal paint for the metal and WOOD TUX for the wood. A garden type pump-up sprayer will be how you apply the stain.[get some cardboard to protect the grass, not plastic tarp's, you wont the card board to suck up the extra stain, not run off] Their is a ton of good post's about wood refinnishing here. Use the search.
