  1. The Pro's and Con's of bleach...

i never tried citric for cement, i dont think it works the same as is dose on wood. Something about the lime in cement, i think. You should check your biggest paint stores in your area for oxalic acid. Also any exsterminator. It is a poision. You may need to check your local laws. You might need a special lic. to buy it. I had to sign a weiver to get oxalic.
  2. Shipping Rig

im sure they rent trucks with trailer hitches because a lot of people need to tow their car behind the truck. one way moves. I think u-haul rents a PUP truck. I dont know if they rent pick up's for doing state to state. Fly in in early morning. On road by 12. Stop at 8 and enjoy a nice night in a fancy hotel. On road at 5 home by dinner. My est on the trip about $600 if you can get someone to get you from the airport to the u-haul. You could take a cab if not to far. check out www.forwardair.com
  3. Shipping Rig

you could fly in rent a u-haul truck and bring it home. well worth the extra cost.
  4. What you need and WHY you need it...

I cant afford to go to las vagas but i sure could afford a audio tape of your presentation. hint hint hint Beth you are by far the best person to be in the drives seat to write books. Would'nt it be nice to make some money with dry feet? You have more free information at your finger tips and then add what you allready know and i just dont understand why you dont just put it all together? If you dont do it soon, someone else will.
  5. The Pro's and Con's of bleach...

if i use bleach to clean cement, i mist the cement with water then use a shr-flo to spray my 6% SH bleach. Then i turn on my upstream soap just a little bit and turn on the heater. Then i use my surface cleaner. Yes i run my soap through the pump, coil, and spinner. Then i switch to cold water and rinse. Lastly, downstream some oxalic acid but i dont use so much as to let their be any run-off. It is a poision. If it is near a pool, children, pet's or can in anyway hurt someone i give it another rinse or skid the oxalic all together. No person or animal will ever get hurt by me doing my job.
  6. Reclaiming Water

Beth after 9/11 in NJ it became againt the law to touch a fire hydrent without a cop their the whole time. meter or no meter. They are worried about someone backflushing chems into the water supply. I have not checked this year, i hope they lifted that restriction.
  7. well you got hot water-that's a big plus. Your rig is perfect for 90% of homeowner type work and some comm. RIGHT NOW YOU SHOULD BE ADVERTISING. Did you make the phone book? You have all the right toy's[surface cleaner,x-jet,ect..] That is where we differ. I did'nt have any toy's the first year just the skid. Sold my small unit just to pay the shipping on the skid. Joel did you get the close range tip for the x-jet?
  8. i too am like you buy after looking back and seeing how much time a wasted, how discourged i got,and knew then what i know now. I never would have done it that way. That is the point of this bbs. To help others from making the same mistakes. You cant go into a truck yard with your s10 and home depot wash unit and have them take you seriously. They might hire you to use you up and spit you out but you wont make money. In the next 4 week's your going to get everyone and their brother looking for the "get rich" with a pressure washer. If they made it this far, they can get the strongest and most dangerous chems available. It's no joke. Im glad i dont sell them. People kill their kids everyday by giving them over the counter cold medicine.[accidental OD] If i were BETH i would have a special safety section that you had to sign off on before i shipped one oz of HD80. Just so i could sleep at night. Joel if you were asked to build a house would you take a hand saw or a circular saw? Yes you could do it with either but why would you? A fricken comm. lawn mower cost $3500 you cut 10 lawns a day A home depot push mower you cut 2 a day It takes money to make money.
  9. 3/4" supply lines

yes some use too small of fittings and restrict flow. You can make your own 3/4 fittings. The one thing your forgetting is "friction loss" The longer the run the more friction loss you get. If your not flooding the pump head then your pump is pulling water. If it pull's to hard it suck the hose closed and catavate's the pump. If you are flooding the pump head with tank water then your supply to the tank can be 5/8ths but if you run 200ft of 5/8ths or 200ft of 3/4 the 3/4 will supply more water. What will empty a 5 gal bucket faster? 3 half inc holes poked in the bottom or 1 1 inc hole? The 1 one inc hole because of less friction loss. See how fast you run out of hot water if you take the shower head off compared to having it on. So long as you have plenty of water at that 1/2 inc fitting at the pump your fine. Dont use whimpy hose or your pump could suck it closed. ALLWAYS USE A FILTER BEFORE THE PUMP HEAD.
  10. go to www.primeshop.com it has great info. Never used the product, just the info.
  11. with baking soda/water in a pump-up sprayer.
  12. House Cleaner

IF that contractor did everything but the work, then yes i would discount. He sell's it He collect's the money I get paid by him after every job. All i do is shoot off the mill glaze and seal. Then yes. If I have to meet with the customer, bill them, wait for the money. Then no. I would just pay him for the refferals. Big jobs-and discounts? You save money because of less set-up and break down. You save because of less travel. You work a steady 8 hrs. You are also working for someone that makes a lot of money. I can talk to a customer for 5 min and know that i need to add 10% just so they can talk me down. If price comes up more then quality, i add 10%. On this note, how meny homeowners ask for a break if they pay CASH? That happens at the end of the job,for me. Another note.On a refferal they ask you to come do a house wash[whatever]. I tell them "i'll come by look at it and give you a quote" They say "i dont need a quote, I need my house washed" "ive seen your work" Now that's why I want my own buissness. Makes you feel like a million buck's. Had that happen to me 3 times last year.:D :D :D :D :D
  13. Hd-80

10lb go the 30lb. wait till you try it on cement.
  14. time is money. More GPM = speed speed get's better money per hour. If i have equipment that can do a job in 3 hrs and it takes you 5 i will be cheaper and/or do a better job. You have a 16 hp engine hooked to a tiny pump. Is it belt drive? You can get a 5.5 gpm pump for $280[ts2021] belt drive. I know everyone needs a starting point. Do you know where that starting point should be? A min of a $5000 budget, plus your truck. Anything less, your playing games. This is my opinion and i started with a home depot wash unit. I it just damn hard. Every time i wash, i think to myself "why did i put myself through that?" Hot water open's doors you'll never open without it. Next time you work on your car just use cold water to wash up with. Even try doing the dish's with cold water. The diffrence between 3.5 gal per min and 5.5 gpm is the same as you being a house framer and i give you a 6 oz hammer and i use a 16 oz hammer. We both will get the job done but i wont be their when your done. I'll be home. Add hot water and it's like having a pnumatic nail gun. I will say that "if" you just did wood the diffrence would'nt be as much., but it would still be a lot. Lastly "why 5.5 gal, not more?" because most spigots cant supply any more then 5.5 gpm and a lot cant do that. So you need to bring water. that has it's own problems. like weight, availibilty, and cost. Sooooo meny good used rigs for sale right now.
  15. House washing

Dish soap in the mix is not for it's cleaning powers. It is for SUDS. Most every cleaner made for pressure washing is made NOT to foam. I like to see where my chem is or is not. The bubbles also help suspend the loose dirt so it can be rinsed better.
  16. Casters

if you are talking a about a FURY system you need to use the surface cleaner specificly for the FURY. Did you see the used one for sale on Delco's BBS? If your talking about the yellow whisper wash one the castors are crap. What type of work are you going after with a FURY They are big $$$$$$ and unless i had a specific type cleaning job that would pay for it, i would'nt get one. 16" is small and takes a lot of time compared to a 28" big guy.
  17. wood restoration rig

As far as the pump and 300ft. That depends on the pump's PSI,GPM and DIA. of the supply line. It comes down to friction loss. I dont know much about the terrain and why you dont want to take the chem to the surface. You must have reasons. I just think a 20 gal drum set-up on a hand cart would still be easier. Have you ever looked at the hose end sprayers Dave Olsen use's? A 5X8 trailer!!!!!! You will outgrow that in a week. Wash units, fuel cans,3 kinds of strippers,2 kinds of sealers.extra hose, tarps, brush's,roller's,pan's,rags, exstension cords,sanders,buffer/polisher,screw gun, hammer, saw, exstension wand, tool's,water cooler,MSDS,sand paper, defurring pads, extra 12 volt pump, fittings, teflon tape,o rings,o ring pic, tips, masking tape, plastic sheeting, laun plywood shields, ladder, maybe you'll need scaffolding, first aid kit, gloves glass's,nuet. for chems you might spill on yourself, fire exstinguisher, change of clothe's,screws, nails, room for lumber if you need to replace any, wood filler, chinking,im sure im forgetting a lot. i dont do cabins just some decks. plus 4 hose reels?
  18. about what's on it. I just need to know what will take it off. I have a small tool box with diffrent chems [baby food jars] to TEST. I USE THE LEAST CAUSTIC TO GET THE JOB DONE.
  19. is when the customer is not home and forgets to close a window or two. Sometimes they forget to close the skylight's. Second problem is when they leave a car near the house. Also when the neibour has a car parked near the house to be washed and either wont move it or is not home. Worse is when people are outside and less then 25 ft from the house to be washed. Lastly is other people complaing about the noise on a weekend. I have it in the contract that the cars be out of the drive and that they should double check all windows. When i call the night before the job i go over everything with them and ask if they can speack to the people around them. It is only a couple of hrs[if that] once a year.
  20. The Pro's and Con's of bleach...

i like to custom mix my own blend of housewash for diffrent houses. My mix can have a number of chems. limonlene truck wash wax bleach dawn [soon] gutterzap castrol super clean dbn1430 Here is a site i found because i wanted to find a safe way to remove mold. It has some good info for bleach users. Specificly why bleach works and why one persons amount of bleach might not work the same for another. It's the PH and how old the bleach is. I have contacted the mfg. but he's not interested in our market. www.chlorair.abka.com then go to the bottom and click BLEACH. After reading this and see that bleach and water makes muratic acid, i now know why bleach works so well on cement.
  21. House Cleaner

dirty wood and vynal siding.[efc38] If you really believe your service is worth what your asking someone else to pay, then you can sell it at that price. If you dont then your not going to make it. What are your skill's worth? To tell you the truth i dont believe in "more work = less charge" Volume discounts are to move stock, not service. If I need work and i need to lower my price to get it, i will. I wont give my work away. That would be just plain stupid. Draw a line. Set a standered. Dont faulter. Be the best and remember that someone else had to work to get the money to pay you. Here is a good question for you. Customer wants the job done for $500 [deck job} You look at it and "to do it right" you will need to charge $600 She[owner] wont budge on the price. 1] do you walk away[because she wont budge] 2] do it right for her price, and lower your profit? 3]do it half assed and collect your profit and go? I think about all 3 for one instant. Then i think about paying my bill's Then I ????????????????
  22. House Cleaner

i dont know why beth did'nt suggest that you use her EFC38. iT WILL WORK FINE FOR WHAT YOU WANT. You can read about it on her on-line store.
  23. House washing

what your talking about is what i am trying to do. Give some interest to a new site. Show some people that they have a good support team here. I figured instead of writting a book i/you/we could just help as these topics came up. Beth who is an excellent writter should have a library section and re-write some of the best postings to put in their. She could use some from the other bbs to get it started. No reason to re-invent the wheel. Seem's lately TONE is as important as the info. Im sure beth will keep most on the strait and narrow. What are the rules for mentioning products by name? Beth you can move or delete this post. It prob should'nt be here.
  24. House washing

im glad you like my post's. The mirical grow is something i posted about a long time ago. My questions were to make people think. I more or less felt slightly offended at the thinking that housewashing was as easy as falling off a log. I like doing house washing and have stream lined my way of doing it to a science. If someone want's to make some money just figure out a way to easily remove the SHOT GUN FUNGUS. That is one of the biggest problems in housewashing today. Some mistake the little black dot's as fly crap or spider crap. This stuff is the biggest pain in the butt ever. The bleach thing is something i have been looking at very closely. CL2[bleach] + H20[water] = HOCL[free chlorine] and HCL[Muratic acid] Most household bleachs contain twice as much LYE as SH[sodium hyperchlorite] The free chlorine is what kill's the mold, the muratic acid is what helps to clean and the LYE is what can kill the plants. Depending on what you mix the bleach with will depend the PH. Bleach at higher then 12 PH has less of the HOCL so anything you mix bleach with should not have a high PH. Also remember to buy your bleach at stores that sell a lot of bleach and dont stock more then a week's worth at one time. Bleach will loose it's 6% SH rateting by as much as 50% in 6 week's after it's bottled. If on a shelf in sunlight even faster. liquid pool chlorine at 12% SH is more dangerous but is much better.[CHECK LOCAL LAWS ABOUT THE AMOUNT YOU CAN LEAGLEY CARRY] Make sure you go the clorox's web site and download MSDS You need them for every chem you have on your rig. Never breath in bleach/wear a reasperator not a stupid dust mask with the rubber band. Think long term effects.
  25. House washing

if their is no sign of mold or mildew just good ol dirt. Would you still use bleach? Dose bleach have any cleaning power's on it's own? What about these oxi-clean type bleach's, would they work? I see EFC38 has oxi-clean type stuff in it and it say's it can be used as a house wash. What are the dangers of useing bleach? What should i never mix with bleach? Is their any surface on a house that bleach will do damage to? like BRASS? What is the best way to apply a house wash? I hear talk about laundry detergents and dish soaps These are made to strip dirt but have zero gloss enhancers in them and can leave the surface chalky. They also dry out pigment's in paint. What is the cause of the black streaks on the siding and gutters? Is it safe to wash the roofs of mobile homes?
