  1. if you have the time, energy, and training to mix your own chem's. You are not putting in enuff time in to advance your buissness. Do you think mcdonald's care's about how to make cheese? NO! they care about selling cheeseburger's. P.S. if you do buy and store chem's in this quanity. Please mark the storage with a placquard. Some fireman might have to put out a fire in your garage and have no idea what he's in for.
  2. SHURflo and Flojet users

why not use a duel lance and a downstreamer?
  3. want to see what we in NJ are dealing with? www.nedstevens.com click the $5 discount to see local priceing. $50 to $75 per house. ive watched these guy's and they bearly speak english and are FAST. 20 min or less. Garden hose,ladder,2 pair glove's. Everything in the gutter get's thrown on the lawn. each crew can do 20 house's a day or more. I saw truck #72. So i wonder how meney they have in service. They are radio dispatched. Hard to compete with this co. Billboard's everywhere. They also install garage door's.
  4. Hot water machine

go for it. nothing wrong with opinion's as long as they are opinion's.
  5. Back Up Equip..?

rfitz, you should ''try before you buy'' are you sure your supply is going to meet your need's? I would much rather have 2-five gpm unit's then 1 -10. I can plumb them together if i want to run a monster surface cleaner.
  6. under "applacation method's"
  7. Fire Hydrant fittings

when you use a hyd. your supposed to have a permit and a rented water meter. Also remember that the hyd may not have been flushed out for a long time and to let it run for a couple of min before hooking to your tank or wash unit. Lot's of muck,sand,rust,ect....
  8. just put a few drop's of water on it. If it bead's for more then 5 sec. then it has mill glaze.
  9. if i were you and were to use the deckster or homemade type deckster. It would be portable not mounted. You have the cost of a reel. You have the problem of 'RUNNING OUT THE CHEM" FROM A LONG STREATCH OF LINE. I.E. Go from stripper to citric acid then to the sealer. If you use a hand cart and the type of fitting's [quick disconnect type] that self seal when disconnected [like hyd hose fitting's do] Then you wont need to purge the line with water every time. You wont get friction loss and it's easyer on the pump. A shur-flo pump that has the rateing's you want and the correct seal's is all you really need. www.northerntool.com some guy's like to install a "bulb" [it's a buld that you buy at a marine store to use to prime a boat motor with fuel] this is what i would use. Run clean water or the proper solvent, then water thru the pump each time your done and that pump will last you a long time. For sealer's use the paper cone's to strain the finnish's. I know beth wont advocate the use of a x-jet to apply the product's she sell's and i understand why. If you can see past that? you can x-jet a lot of stripper's,brightner's,housewash's, and soap's. Their is a real nice pic of the homemade deckster under ''application's'' on this site.
  10. Application methods

pressuretek hot water skid's are made by LARGO. They are great unit's but you can get them cheaper the pressuretek. The site itself suck's. They need a way to skip to what your looking for. Not look at every page of the catalog.
  11. rfitz. in my opinion you should have a van set-up with a 5 gpm wash unit,2 hose reel's that hold 300 ft of line[each],tool's,extra part's,a X-JET,a 19" surface cleaner,a 55 gal drum set-up as a large float tank, room for your chem's,fuel can, msds, first aid kit,eye wash kit, duel lance, ext. pole, step ladder, ext. ladder, and a hand cart type set-up as your chem sprayer[home made deckster] THEN set-up a small trailer just for applying sealer's. Tarp's,rag's,cardboard, light plywood,sealer,plastic,roller's,pad's,pump-up's,airless sprayer, airless sprayer ext wand, sander's,pad's,screw gun, circ. saw, tool for getting crud out from between the board's,bug spray, bee spray, water cooler,mask,ect..... As you can see a van would be very crowded by itself and you dont need everything jammed in. You dont want everything with you every time you do a house wash either. well this is my opinion that you asked for.
  12. Competition: what gives?

Dont worry about the other guy. Work hard. Do a good job. Show up when you say you will show up. Be nice. Keep your rig and stationary professional looking. Do follow up call's on customer's[both the one's you did work for and the one's that got away]. Be safe and allway's send a season's greeting's card to everyone you ever did an est. for.[weather you got the job or not]. Include a fridge magnet. If you do all this you wont ever have to even think of the compition or other guy again.;)

Black streak's and gutter's. Well this is what happen's. Would you believe that gutter's that dont ever see rain get black streak's? What happen's is morning dew collect's on the gutter's and attract's the dirt. Then as the drop's get heavy they roll down the gutter, leaveing a dirt streak. On alum gutter's it get's electrostaticly bonded to the finnish. When that gutter comes clean, it's because you not only removed the dirt but a tiny layer of the paint. This is also how meny surface cleaner's work on cement. They not only remove the dirt but a tiny layer of loose sand that is in/on the cement. They line's you see between the overlapping pass's are caused by removeing double the sand, but i degress. Im sure anyone that has brushed a gutter to get it clean has seen the chem bucket turn white or get a white haze to it. That is some oxidised paint but also some health paint. To prove this dew thing all you need to do is go to a RV dealer in las vagas and see a new RV that has never seen rain nor have a tar roof and watch the black streak's ron down from the top and window leadge's. Glass sweat's and roof's collect the dew in the gutter rail's. The alum gutter's and facia are vertical and the soffit get's hanging dew but no streak's. The hanging dew will oxidise the metal and will pit it. Then the alum rot's and oxidise's and turn's a gun metal gray[raw unprotected alum and air] This will never come clean and the only way to fix this is replacement. A good pressure washer will tell his customer about this. A vented soffit is a pressure washer's best selling tool[for house washing] You see air/wind hitting the house is driven up, also warm air rise's. Then the vent's in the soffit direct that air under the roof and out the ridge vent, gable vent or roof fan. It's a convection system that is used to keep your roof cool and save your shingle's. Well when you get mold ON YOUR HOUSE. The spore's are air driven INTO YOUR HOUSE. Meny have air handler's,storage, liveing space, ect in the attic area. This mean's mold IS IN YOUR HOUSE. This mold can lead to meny health problem's. Asthma,alergie's,ect...... So I have sold a house wash as a health risk as well as just makeing it look better. p.s. gutter guard's have affect on why gutter's get black streak's. Sorry for the long post:o
  14. aplus you allready deal with e-spec. You should try 'GLASS DE-ETCH" your supposed to use it with a buffer but ive used it with a soft towel and a lot of elbow grease. I am now a apprentice glazer and will ask around about the very best glass cleaner-scratch remover.
  15. Application methods

back to the orig question. if your going to brush why are you useing a pump-up? Why not use a sponge head mop and a bucket?
  16. Cleaning Copper

i have seen meny people ask this question and wonder WHY? Copper is supposed to turn green. It's called PATINA. Shinny copper would stay shinny if it were supposed too. It would of had a clear coat on it. i also have never seen a way to do what you want with a pressure washer. TARNEX and a sponge mop maybe. get it at wallmart.
  17. New Jersey Parkways/Commercial trucks

the duelly is OK The bucket truck can be used on the parkway from exit 105 SOUTH. No truck's from exit 105 NORTH. Trailer's are OK on all. i travel the parkway everday i live off exit 105 where the ''ALL TRUCK'S MUST EXIT'' sign is. it's route 36 and monmouth race track.
  18. Get a load of this!

ALAN IF YOUR ORIG POST WAS NOT TRUE THEN NO ONE COULD READ MY POST'S. I SPELL LIKE THEY TIPE. LOL This is how you learn to speed read.
  19. vlad, did you get your extenda wand with 1/4 hose[standard] or special order 3/8ths hose? if you got the standard your downstreamer may not work at all, depend's on how long of a pressure line you use. Use a x-jet to aplly chem and your wand to wash/rinse. ONENESS No you cant get a 2 to 1 draw with a x-jet and a 5 gpm unit. Only a 4 gpm will get a 2 to 1 draw. 35% to 40% is the best you can do with a 5 gpm unit and ANY downstreamer. I sure wish someone could prove me wrong but no downstreamer that i know of can get a better draw rate then the x-jet.
  20. Wait a min. your never going to get a 25% draw with a IN-LINE DOWNSTREAMER without modifacation's. Second IF OUR UP-STREAMER AND DOWNSTREAMER HAVE THE SAME DRAW RATE, THE UPSTREAMER PUT'S MORE CHEM ON[HIGHER RATIO] THEN A DOWNSTREAMER. Please remember this. A DOWNSTREAMER add's chem to the gpm of the unit-a 5 gpm will add 20% chem to the 5 gal, thus 6 gal's leaves the tip in one min. A UP-STREAMER adds 1 gal chem to 4 gal of water and in one min 5 gal will leave the tip. downstreamer get's 5 to 1 upstreamer 4 to 1 if you used a stop watch ONLY to test this it would look like the up-streaming and downstreaming were pulling chem at the same rate. if you also measured the amount of water comeing out of the tip, you would see that downstreaming ADDED 1 GAL in the same amount of time. Where UP-STREAMING did not.
  21. should i buy the x-jet????????

WEW the depot stopped selling the hose in bulk roll's, just so you dont count on them to get it. The drum on a hand cart is worse then putting 5 gal bucket's on the corner's of the house. You still need the 5 gal bucket for the gutter cleaner and my box truck is 3 ft off the ground. I do have the set-up your talking about but ive also hooked-up the battery and shur-flo to it. i can either x-jet or shoot 100% chem with 1 tool. I also use that shur-flo to fill and empty that 30 gal drum so i dont have to lift it. A roller pump and a pressure washer is still far better then anything out their.everything stay's on the truck except the line's and wand's. No guessing about your chem ratio's.
  22. Is this a whisper wash?

i think scott is right but i think he is forgetting the grout. it is lower then the tile allowing a very small amount of air in. it may not work on solid cement, just tile.
  23. vlad do you know the size of the orfice in the downstreamer? it might be 2.3 You want a 1.8 Where is the downstreamer at in the pressure line? You want it right at the outlet of the pump. They also have diffrent size soap tip's. Try a larger one. 25% of one gal is a quart so to get 1 gal of chem per min from a 4 gpm unit you would need a 25% draw. Not a 20% draw. you should be at 1 1/2 min to draw in 1 gal. you also might want to try a non-adj type injector from e-spec. To tell you the truth ive never gotten a full 20% draw from a downstreamer. I learned a lot from BIGBOY and he has downstream but no downstreamer injection. Just a simple T in the pressure line. I have'nt tried that yet. if you feel like messing around a bit. Try installing 2 downstreamers on that one high pressure line and see what happen's. Also when they test downstreamer's to get the 20% ratio that they tell you about, it's with 50 ft of pressure line. The longer the line, the less the draw.
  24. should i buy the x-jet????????

going with a roller pump and 2 sep lines and a helper is the best way. Tim, sooner or latter your going to find a real mad customer. Doctor's dont get $300 per hour. Your getting that in 30 min. customer perception mean's a lot. No matter how clean it is, no one, includeing yourself want's to pay that much for 30 min of work. be carefull. I took on 5 housewash's in one day. me and 2 helper's. i shot hot chem[x-jet] the second guy shot cold water and wax to rinse, i helped rinse when i was done applying chem. third guy scrubbed the gutter's and trim. I could have washed 10 that day. Because i used a crew. no one complained. 30 min per house. im thinking of either the roller pump set-up or seeing how long a ts2021 pump will last if i use it to shoot my housewash and bleach out of a chem tank.[rinse after every job] no more carrying chem to the x-jet. 100% chem and a foamer tip. pump is $300 if i wash 100 house's and it fail's. It will be well worth the $3 per house not to carry bucket's.
  25. are you 100% sure you got the right pump[seal's] for the job at hand?[viton seal's] Second is try this little trick that someone here told me about. Get a fuel line from a outboard motor. The kind that has the bulb on it. Use that as the feed line so you can prime the pump. Second is mess with the little allen screw at the end of the pump. Im sure they are getting air bound, try the bulb thing first.
