Getting all equipment this week...advise please :)
jaysonrover replied to jaysonrover's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Tim, I appreciate your response. Looks like advertising is where to spend the extra cash. I am just this week figuring out where to spend money on advertising. I know April/May are big for me to get my name out there so these 2 months advertising will be very strong. Just trying to figure out what I will need for the smaller stuff from Bob. He is swamped for time right now. Mind if I give you a call Tim just to ask some minor details questions on equipment? Thanks, Jason #604-399-9160 -
Getting all equipment this week...advise please :)
jaysonrover posted a topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Hi, I am about to begin shopping this week for all my equipment for my 6 x 12 single axle open trailer. This will be my first season so I am trying to be smart about my initial outgoing costs. I have a used 11hp honda washer but need still some sort of roof washing system. Thinking of a fatboy delevan system from pressure tek. Will this system work on out moss covered roofs up in BC.,Canada or are they ideal for down south? Also got a good lead on cox reels so will be getting 2 of them. Thinking a 225 horizontal leg tank -more for looks than anything plus a 65 roof tank and a 25 g house chem tank will do? have my website just about finished and cards, logo uniform all good to go... but the details I would be interested to hear from experienced guys are Such as 1' or 3/4 for garden hoses...150 or 200 '? 1 or 2 wire pressure hoses and what lengths on them? the fatboy bandit is not something I should even think about? Will those roof systems work up here in Vancouver? whisper classic a good starter surface cleaner? You get the idea... I one day hope to get a 6 x 12 aluminum duallie trailer from express custom and want a 5.5-6 gpm power washer and all the bells and whistles but that is my goal 3-4 years down the road. For now I want to have a professional image (with 3rd party liability insurance and wcb) and do the work well and in an efficient manner and to start building a name slowly for myself. ;) Any advice sooner than later much appreciated... -
8 GPM COLD vs. 5.6 GPM HOT!! ?
jaysonrover replied to White WASH's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
hI, Mind if I ask what gpm of each of your units is? I am thinking about getting another unit and wondering if I should just go with another 4gpm belt drive unit or step it up and get a 5.5? any ideas and suggestions would be great. And how did you set it up? thanks from Canada... : -
Hi, I had done a search on "orchard ladder" use and found virtually nothing. I used these ladders all the time when I owned a landscaping business about 7 years ago with great success. I bought a few conventional aluminum ladders 8",16" and 24" for my new Power Washing business as these seemed to be the industry standard to work with. I used these ladders for the first few weeks with stabilizers and siding extensions and they worked fine. But I often would have preferred to have simply been back off the siding to get a good overall view/angle to apply my chem's or rinse. I still had my orchard ladders but I had let a landscaping friend use them for the last few years. I called him and borrowed back (lol) these ladders and began using them again. WOW! They work fantastic in this line of work. Sure you need to have a decent level area to put them on but I love being off the siding and having a great clear shot to wash the entire side of each home in one shot.Even being set back to apply and rinse chem's on the roof seems easier. Just wanted to give my two cents to what I have learned. I will keep my conventional ladders as they do have their place for sure. But I have a feeling it will end up being 70/30 now with my orchard ladders from my past few weeks of residential experience. I am trying to fabricate something like rubber feet for the single arm so I can try using the ladder on cement. Another possibility is making my own concrete small forms for the feet to slide into then using a rope that ties onto one step. Then have 2 pre-drilled holes spread apart on the single adjustable pole to tie into using an eye bolt that the rope/line would tie off on. Just some ideas... I'll keep you all posted...also thanks for all the info that is in these forums...wouldn't be nearly anywhere I am with knowledge without you all passing on your vast experience and your info on your own trial and errors. thanks again

mind helping me with a quote?
have a 4.5 foot by 40 foot aluminum ramp that needs to be power washed. no access to water so must be brought in.goes from a height of 12' above the river to about 1' above the river which it rests on a slippery wood dock. I would need to have a second person with me for WCB reasons and both wearing life vests. what would you quote for a job like this. I won't need any chemicals but it will be the handrails, walkway and underneath as well. access to underneath is okay as the float it rest on I can get access to the underside. So any idea on a quote? thanks this is up in canada and would be for a major marine transport company as it is their dock. much appreciated

Advertising and rig set up plans.....sound good?
jaysonrover posted a topic in Business Topics & Tips
Hi, So I have read info from this site for many, many, many hours. In fact I haven't even begun to read the individual sections on how to do wood or roofing etc,lol Evaluated my competition of which I learned a casual uniform, professionalism(over the phone and in person) and insurance and WCB will right off differentiate myself from them. Once has a rig set up,the others power washers from the back of their pickups. So here is what I plan on starting with come March....let me know if there is anything you feel I could add... Clothing...nice jeans, blundstones and a marks warehouse long sleeve with a logo on the shirt for inital meetings. Nice black North Face jacket with logo on it as well. Orange rain gear with logo on my jack too.An aluminum clipboard with estimate sheets, etc and a roll measure to measure properties dimensions on inital home consulatations. For advertising...advertise on local paper obviously and get a bunch of 3'x 2' signs for placing on properties that I have worked on. I have scoped out a bunch of high visibility homes at very good high traffic areas where I will offer to do their roofs for free and in return I can keep a sign out front for one month. *A website as well ofcourse and google "ad words" to help keep the site being checked out. *My rig and truck will have signage. *I will be doing a postcard mail out with Canada Post to areas that I can done drive throughs through areas that are mid dle to high income areas and look to be in need to either roof cleaning/home washings or dock/deck washings. *I will be hitting restaurants, hotels, malls, banks, the local district marinas, homes listed for sale, etc for potential work. will have a stand at the local home show next summer *Also I will park at either of the two grocery stores right in front at dinner time on Fridays or such to again have that h igh vis' exposure. *I will have a toyota tacoma crew cab with business info on the truck and a 6 x 12 trailer with cox reels,325 gallon tank (size is large but mainly for visual affects) and a belt drive 4gpm gx 390... And I would say that is about it for now,lol I used to have a very successful landscape business a few years back and still have all my equipment. I plan to also advertise for landscape work as there is a serious shortage of landscapers up here (get more truck and trailer signage, lol) just to get full usage of the truck and trailer until the pw'ing really picks up. So any other ideas? This I will financing on my own as I have been saving for almost 2 years. The start up cost should be about $4000 pricing the equipment out.Advertising will be about $1600 ...that is signage, business cards, brochures made and sent out and 3 x 2 signs. Open to any and all suggestions...thanks in advance...the name of the business is GUMBOOT Power Washing :) -
