  1. Nice little cedar and ipe deck

Very nice job Ken. Where ya been?
  2. First Bobcat of the year

Other than "sport", what the reason for killing bobcats?
  3. you can run but...

Far enough, what are you using to take 'em out? I'm in a residential area so it's Starlings (you can kill as many as you want to in Texas) and squirrels (keep digging up my plants). Funny story; when I was in Air Force Basic Training in San Antonio we would be restricted to barracks around sunset. There were sooo many Starlings on the base that, around sunset when they were all converging into the trees to settle down for the night, base cops would surround the trees and, at the count of three, BAM....they would unload into the trees with shot guns. I remember walking to chow the next day having to tip-tow around Starling carcasses on my way to breakfast. They would cull hundreds every night.
  4. you can run but...

Outside of cats and small dogs (which are vermin to me, especially the little yappy ones), how do coyotes affect your area? I would think they would help to keep the population of rodents and feral cats in check? I'm not anti hunting at all, just wondering what the benefit of taking them out is.
  5. length of season

I have the potential to do year round wood work (halfway through a job now). January and February can get a bit problematic.
  6. Weather Challenges

I've never had a problem with that attitude from customers. I keep in constant contact with them during the course of a job. When I do have to delay for weather I always have a new schedule to give them; I don't leave it open ended as to when I plan to complete the job. As far as chances of rain delaying the job, that's a little harder but more than 50% would probably cause me to delay staining.
  7. Gov't Making Me Mad

While I agree with you about having a solid police force, it's not a federal government thing. Local governments are seeing their tax revenues crash due to the economy, this is just one of the fall outs from that. Getting money from the feds for local law enforcement could open up a whole can of worms that could be worse than the current situation. In my opinion, CEO's and senior execs of the investment banks, mortgage lenders, etc. should be fired with forfeiture of all compensation and bonuses. If they knew what they were doing then they need to be prosecuted for criminal deception. If they didn't know what was going on, they need to be fired for gross negligence and incompetence. Getting down from my soapbox now. P.S. This is what happens when "self regulation" is put in place. Talk about putting the fox in charge of the hen house!
  8. Does anyone have pics of ready seal dark red stain they can email me? Thanks
  9. I did a little bit of a rescue job for a customer yesterday. He called me the night before saying that the contractor who was going to stain his fence never showed up and he (customer) wanted to get it done and could I schedule time to do it. Sure. He told me it was Behr stain that is required by HOA for fences (very high end neighborhood). Get out there and it's a BEHR SOLID LATEX FENCE STAIN! Eeeek! I went ahead and did it anyway. Why they call it a stain, I don't know. It's a freekin' paint! I found out very quick that a sureflow is useless for this stuff (pretty sure it's trashed). I ended up using a truck brush to apply it (scrap one truck brush too). The customer was happy and couldn't say enough about how he appreciated my attitude toward the whole thing, which was a nice thing to hear. Also, his wife is on the HOA council. Here's the question. This is a large (I mean really big) high end housing community with an unbelievable amount of wood fences. I'm sure airless is the only way to go with this stuff. Even though I'm not doing back flips over the product, they're the customer and what they want they get. What is the best airless to use for this stuff ? I've never used an airless, what do I need to know and/or watch out for? Can I run this solid latex stuff and my normal Bakers through it as long as I clean it properly between uses? Is there a one stop web page that I can read up on airless's? Thanks as always. Thanks God the summer heat is pretty much over with.
  10. Say NO to Gays!

Something tells me Divorce Lawyers are the biggest advocates of Gay marriage.
  11. I have a 16hp Vanguard v-twin belt drive, cold water unit. 4000psi, 4.5 gal. My question is: what is the likely charging circuit amperage? I've looked through various web sites, including Briggs and S but haven't been able to find out. I will more than likely be adding a hot box at some time and want to make sure things will be ok. This is probably a question Russ can answer. Thanks.
  12. Help!!!!

I'm trying to start a new 16hp Vanguard engine on a cold water unit and it won't start! Fuel tank is over half full and fuel filter in almost empty. I'm looking at Briggs manuals online but can't find any help. I'm on my driveway sipping beer and grinding my teeth. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to give me a call. Thanks.
  13. Help!!!!

Found the problem. Thumb screw on the bottom of the fuel tank to allow fuel flow was closed down. It's always the simple stuff. See Kory, nothing wrong with the engine.
  14. Help!!!!

Gee Kory, you're a great help. Thanks a bunch.
  15. 16hp Charging Amps

Rob and Russ, thnx. Yes, the regulator is above the starter.
  16. stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid!!

Without playing favorites (I don't trust any of them) unless Obama / Biden screws up, I don't see it being close.
  17. A couple of questions

A couple of questions for y'all Is there anyone who is willing to send me info on commercial work? Things like pricing, marketing material (flyers, etc.), any tips on how you make initial contact, sales techniques used, and so on. What type of lube oil to you use on your airless sprayer? All my owners manual refers to is "separating oil". Also, don't forget to send me links to your business / web site that I can use on my "find a contractor" page. Any or all of this info can be emailed to me if you don't want to put it out to the public. Phone calls are cool too. Thanks.
  18. stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid!!

As much as I'd like to return to the Leave it to Beaver times myself, don't hold your breath. I'm as frustrated as anyone. I pay my bills, taxes, mortgage, etc. don't live above my means (although I am soooo tempted to finance a bigger PW and trailer!). Like it or not, there does need to be more regulation on the financial sector. When you mix large amounts of money and greedy people together and DON'T have strong oversight and regulation, what does anyone seriously expect to happen? There are so many things that led to this; SEC reversal on the requirements of financial institutions to maintain adequate cash reserves along with allowing these institutions to “self regulate” themselves (fox in charge of the hen house comes to mind), deposit banks being allowed to operate like investments banks, investment banks offering "swaps”, not insurance (which would be regulated) as coverage for risky financial instruments, and the list goes on. Until the American electorate gets pissed off enough and puts pressure on our elected representatives, this will continue. Apathy on all of our parts is the biggest problem. Not willing to put in the effort to understand issues, allowing ourselves to be spoon fed propaganda (by all sides) is the real issue here. (Pete steps down from his soap box)
  19. Driveway pictures

Maybe you can use these. One before and after, one in progress with surface cleaner. I'd love to know how you got that meeting together.
  20. Ron,

No worries buddy, I didn't take any offense. I was just messing with you. I was just curious what others did; your point about hauling is well taken. I've only done residential and wood work to date. I'm upgrading my equipment to include a water tank. My trailer will only hold a 250 gal tank anyway. I would think I will only use it as a buffer / bypass tank and to haul enough to do demos. Your input is always welcome.

    Pete

  21. No Tank

I was reading the owners manual for a belt drive cold water unit. It's using a Briggs 16hp and an AR RKA 45G40 pump. The manual said "Never use a reservoir tank as a water source. This pressure washer is designed for a pressurized water source such as a city water faucet. Sucking water out of a tank may cause pump cavitation and damage to your pump." Is this a CYA on behalf of the manufacturer or is this something I need to worry about? The main reason for even looking at this unit is the ability to draw from a tank and by-pass into the tank. Gracias Amigos
  22. No Tank

Alan, Thanks for the info. They will both be bolted to the trailer right next to each other. I will use a re-enforced braided 1" hose. My brother lives is Simi. Says he lives in the "Texas" area. Supposedly Simi natives know where that is.
  23. Hot Box

I edited another message but I'll ask separately anyway. How difficult and/or reliable is it to hook up a hot box to an existing 12v, belt drive, cold water unit? This will be on a trailer.
  24. A couple of questions. If I were to feed the output of two 4gpm units into the same hose, assuming the unloaders were set to go into bypass at the same psi, how many gpm's could I expect to get? I assume tip size and such would play into it. Also, using a hot box on a trailer......any issues I should look out for? I have the potential of picking up a 6gpm belt drive cold water unit at a very good price; if I were to buy a hot box and hook it up I could have a hot water unit for a fraction of the cost of buying a 6gpm hot water skid. EDIT: How difficult is it to hook up and run a separate hot box if I already have a electric start, belt drive, 12v cold water unit?
  25. So what was your first car?

1962 Ford Fairlane 500. Beautiful Royal Blue body, Pearl White top. Had a steering wheel the size of the Titanics and drove soooooo smooth. It had a 221cu in V-8. Smallest V-8 I've ever seen. Man, what I wouldn't give to have that car again!!! Just change the red to blue and that's my baby.
