  1. Hello everyone, just had a quick question about oiling a new cedar deck for a customer of ours. i am not a wood expert but do have some years of experience with wood and wanted to get others opinions about this. the deck is currently being built and the builder told them to get some Thompson water seal on it right away! when i met with her i told her to say far away from that junk. i believe this is a premium grade western red cedar with no knots, it is not even a very big deck but i want to make sure i give her the right service for the job. i have read here on tgs that you should let cedar weather for a few months before putting anything on the wood to let it naturally weather and adapt to is environment and let the tannins work themselves to the surface, or is it ok to apply oil a week after it is installed? any thoughts would be appreciated, thank you
  2. i have a job that i am doing the end of this week and was wondering if anyone had advice to remove melted plastic off concrete. the house burnt down a week ago and i am cleaning the floor/walls/outside walls, and the front walkway and stoop. the vinyl siding melted and dripped on to the concrete, there is also melted aluminum for the fascia as well, it is a mess! it is on the front stoop and on the floor of the basement as well so i guess my question is is there a solution i could use to help remove the plastic stains or just hit it with hot water and a rotary nozzle? any advice would be helpful, thank you
  3. i live in Connecticut and i charge more then you but i am with Doug too. hold strong to what you want to charge for the roof. i get that a lot when i do estimates up here, people will say "oh the last guy did it for x amount, can you do it for that?" and i will tell them very politely, no, i have a business to run and that they shroud call the last guy to do it for that price and every time they say "oh, well he is out of business" or "i can't get a hold of him anymore" i wonder why?
