Curb Appeal

My old unloader (blue spring YU831) finally went out after 4 years so I ordered a new one. They have evidently changed the design since my last one. The new one is smaller and the ports are in different places. The "IN" port is now on the bottom under the spring instead of horizontally inline and opposite of the "OUT" port. My question is: Can I mount the unloader with the spring horizontal so I don't have to use more plumbing than neccessary? Thanks,

I use a super suds sucker from envirospec. It has replaceable orifices inside that you can change out to fine tune it to your setup. I also have a 2gpm delavan pump that feeds my injector so that I get the same draw rate no matter how much hose I have hooked up. I've had 1000' of hose on it and still get over 30% draw rate.

I use a 2gpm delavan and a super suds sucker. It's been a while since I did any testing but in the field, I can't tell any difference in draw rate when using 200' of hose or 1000'. At all lengths, with the pump, I get much more draw than with just the injector. Probably close to 30%.

Envirospec.com has a DS injector that can't be beat. The super suds sucker! Give them a call and they'll hook you up.

For me, 2 gal of 6% SH would be too weak. That's equivalent to 1 gal of 12%. In a 5gal bucket, I usually use 2-2.5 gal 12% SH but I use a downstreamer with a feeder pump. Back when I used an X-Jet, I used 2.5 gal of 12% SH per 5'er as well. A couple of times I was forced to use 6% SH and I just used it full strength, no mixing with water. Oh, and since you're using an X-Jet, try 10oz. of simple cherry.

Nope. Just unhook the air supply, bleed the pressure, unscrew the lid bolts, pour in the stain, screw it back down, reconnect air and you're off. Takes about a minute or so...

Here's what I use... Wagner Hvlp Conversion Gun w/ 2.5 gallon Pressure Pot - Pressure Paint Pots I've used this setup for everything from painting latex paint on trim carpentry to spraying waterbased polyurethane on my new brazillian cherry floors. The lack of overspray means I only have to mask off a few inches from the surface I want to coat. When I did the floors, I just ran a strip of 2" painters tape around the baseboards and that's all I needed. When I use it for decks, the wind is usually blowing to some degree so I mask off a little more. But not much. This gun is also very good at getting into the little nooks and crannies as well as for the spindles. I set it to spray in a circular pattern for that kind of intricate work.

My vote is for HVLP as well. I use a 2.5 gallon pressure pot and an HVLP conversion gun.Much better control, way less overspray, less masking and less waste...

Try Stripper Cream from Ecochem. It will take anything off. Brush it on, dwell and rinse off. You'll have to neutralize and defurr again after. Watch out with that stuff! It will burn you!

I call them up and they ship it up from chattanooga. I pick it up from their local distribution center the next day. I think they deliver too but I always pick up. yea, it's univarusa.com. sorry about that.

I don't know if you have a distribution center near you but try Univar. they have really good prices. I pay just under $2 per gallon. they have a list of locations at univar.com.

gotta go with big mike & Pat on this one. You'll need at least the 5gpm delavan. The 7gpm fat boy would be even better. try to get at least 1/2" hose but 5/8" or 3/4" would be better. take a look at the roof forum for tons of help and info. Also, Bob has a great video at Pressuretek.com that walks you through setting up a roof pump. good luck and have fun...

adrian, where did you get yours for $150? I got mine from Northern Tool in 07 for $289. I absolutely love it. I use it for all brick work, steps and concrete work. I even use to rinse with after cleaning with my surface cleaner. Mine gets a ton of use and has held up great. After my surface cleaner, it's one of my most useful tools and one of my favorites.

Hi all, Got a call to bid this gazebo from one of my regular prop. mgt. customers. He wants it "cleaned off". It really needs a lot more. Repairs, repaint, and the deck needs to be stained (nothing on it now). I'm trying to talk him (and the HOA) into the extra work. His main concern is the cobwebs, dirt and mold on the underside of the roof. My main concern is that the structure is in the middle of a large pond/small lake. Normally I would just use my simple cherry house mix and be done with it. I talked to Bob at Pressuretek and unless I can somehow capture the water and soap and keep it out of the pond, that's a no go. Does anyone have any ideas for what to use that won't kill any of the fish, turtles and frogs that inhabit the pond and still get the cobwebs, dirt and mold out? As it stands now, I'm looking at using just straight water and hitting every square inch of the underside of the roof with a little pressure. Also, does anyone have any experience and/or advise as to how to go about prepping the deck of the structure? It does not have a stain on it now so it doesn't need to be stripped but it does have a lot of mold, bug and bird droppings as well as being gray with age. How can I get the wood prepped for Readyseal without getting any chems into the water? Thanks...

Called the city, the county and finally the state. They told me that if the manufacturer professes that the chemical is biodegradable and will not harm the animals or plants, then I am good to go. They had no specific information on Percarb cleaners but I got a letter stating that I can clean the structure as long as I have and MSDS on hand. Pat, I'll be using the Defy product that you directed me to and you're welcome to come watch it in action. Thanks again to all for your input...

According to the MSDS for that, it's just another percarb cleaner. Unless I'm mistaken, even that would be a no no. This is a retention pond but it does have an overflow. Not sure where it goes but I assume into the stormwater system or a stream/creek. I have to call the TDEC Monday and talk to someone about the specific rules. I may have to pass on this one... or charge them out the wazoo...

Sorry, I don't do much transcoding these days. I use bittorrent for my TV shows. That being said, I do know that Handbrake will handle most .TS files from DVRs and encode them into x264/MKV format. Common sizes the x264/MKV format yeilds are: DVD-1.5GB Blu-Ray-4.3GB TV Show (720p HD)-1.1GB for a 1 hour show

I think carbonite.com offers unlimited backups for $50/year. It would take a while for my 4TB to upload though. The beauty of unRaid is that it is easy and cheap to set up, secure and redundant. You can use an old PC (no monitor needed) and the tiny OS fits and runs from a $10 USB thumbdrive. Of my 6 drives, one is a recovery drive. If any of the drives fail, I can recreate the missing data fromm the recovery drive. This drive holds info to recreate any one of the drives in the array. Granted, if two drives fail at the same time, I would loose data, but the chances of that are nill...

Kevin, you're a man after my own heart. I used to do the rental/netflix thing and ended up with two big aluminum suitcases full of DVDs. Over 2000 movies. Last year I threw that system out the window when I got one of the first Popcorn Hour streamers. It streams all of my movies off of my server, through my home network, directly to my HDTV. It will play almost every type of video, audio or picture file. As for the probability of HD failure, I have 6 HDs (about 4TB of space) in my server running unRAID from a usb drive. This allows me to spin down drives that are not being used (greatly extending their lifespan) and if one drive dies, I can re-create the information lost from information stored on the recovery drive. As for compression, I've found that x264 compression is by far the best in terms of quality vs file size. I can take a 20GB Blu-Ray movie and compress it down to 4.3GB without a noticeable loss in quality. Most of my movies are X264 in an .mkv format. The best thing about this setup is that I no longer have to search through discs and load them into the DVD player. I just pick up my remote, select the movie (or TV show) I want to watch and press play.

Friday I hit something with my Landa Water Jet. It bent one of the spray arms and now the whole unit shakes violently. does anyone know where I can get a replacement arm? I tried to contact Landa for a dealer but they haven't responded yet.
