  1. Those are plastic abrasive bristles.
  2. Here are some pics of One Time. First pic- 12 yr old deck never sealed, sanded then OT applied, summer 2002(clear with a touch of the clove brown pigment added, back the the pigment was added separately) not dry yet, dark areas are water damage to the redwood from not being protected for so long. Second pic is OT after 4.5 years of not being touched. fall 2006(no cleaning at all, Clove brown color)
  3. I used "Bond's One Time" about 7-8 years ago, holds color for a long time,( it also smells weird) you would still need to wash deck periodicly, as you would wash your car to look its best. The problem with One Time is acrylates are blended to create plastics as I understand. One Time coats the wood fibers with a thin "plastic" type coating that really cant really be removed without sanding deep enough to remove the treated wood. I played with it alot back then, re. sanding off the finish etc. to see what I would be getting into. Its not a contractor friendly product, for many reasons. The problem is removal of product for change if not liked. I fact that it holds the color so long is pretty amazing but just not the product for a professional wood restorer.
  4. I still have customers who prefer Wood Tux, no problems with the Wood Tux. Armstrong Clark is a very good product also, easy to apply.
  5. Here is a link for photo of a pressure pot setup.Astro Pneumatic - PT2-4GH 2 1/2 Gallon Pressure Pot Since I'm an ex car painter, I used a pp setup years ago to do railings & lattice.
  6. New Ipe (& a couple of other hardwoods ) moderatly washed & brightened can fade but not grey as long as 6-12 months & unwashed a year and a half or more.
  7. Since it still had sealer in the wood, the parafinic oil couldnt penetrate enough to get locked in by the drying oils. As for the dirt/mildew, try to keep it clean. Wet, brush lightly hose off every 3 weeks as non freezing temps exist. Last winter was a bad one for dirt & mildew in my area. All 3 brands of sealer used were the blackest in areas I've seen in a while. Have to start selling annual maint. washes again.
  8. As Rick said the 40 degree catches the most uv for uv testing, but in the real world a flat board (as Beth stated)will have dirt build up that doesnt always get rinsed off (dew etc) & the wet/uv/dry, wet/uv/dry wet/dry/dirt/uv etc. exsposure is more damageing in the long run.
  9. Ipe deck problems

How deep are the "gouges"? Do you have or can you get good photos of a few of the gouges. With that info I would be able to help direct you in the right direction with a sanding procedure. Feel free to call if you like. 925-640-2951
  10. My general questions!

Envirospec has a protectant for vinyl siding.
  11. just a little guy

Great Job!! Thats what a deck should look like! What are the ballusters made of?
  12. I dont clean my brush, just a little mineral spirits through the lines on pole. Uncouple & unscrew the brush & keep it in a 5 gal pail with a gallon of AC or RS. Next time u use it just just squeeze it out or let it drip over the side of the fiver while attached to the pole. It is windy alot in my area, alot of brushing.
  13. Great job guys!!! Did you get a standup sander yet?
  14. Have had mine for 5-6 years, works well.
  15. deck question

Patrick, you might need to sand it to get it to really look good. How old is the deck?
  16. Over old finish wipe on, buff off right away, buff again in an hour. At this point I use lacquer thinner to wipe down then buff with cotton rag.
  17. With the weather described you'll be fine staining the next day.
  18. I'll report on my findings.
  19. I primarily use Wood Tux on hardwoods 'cause it consistantly holds up better than anything else I've used on a hardwood. The W-Tux / AC mix is an experiment to see how it will hold up. Others have had luck with RS & AC. Jake wanted to be causes on the hardwood application not knowing fully how it would hold up on hardwoods, unlike the proven track record on softwoods. I'm going to do a test on a hardwood soon with multiple brands.
  20. Here is Cumaru hardwood, built in Sept.2009, cleaned with F-18, brightened with oxalic in mid Nov. '09. Went through rain season(21 inches), It greyed out, Then in May cleaned again with F-18, again brightened with oxalic, then prepped with sanding brush, then stained with 50/50 mix of Wood Tux Warm Honey Gold & Armstrong Clark Super Cedar for what I call "Super Tux Gold"
