Ipe' stain longevity
acegot replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I'm not going to dispute what anyone has posted on this thread. But, with certain products & procedures as discussed in other IPE' threads you can achieve a good enough result. Example: A new Ipe deck was built & Wolmans F&P was put on when deck was new. (Dont know how it was prepped) I was called in the beginning of the second year. About 8 boards had been replaced, I stripped the whole deck with F-18 & stained with WTW & after a year you cant tell the new boards from the original boards, they held the stain the same. (Deck gets full sun) The deck pictured is very dirty due to large dog tracking mud on it. Will clean & recoat in a few weeks. -
Masking Strategy for Acrylic Strip Directly Above Green Lawn??? Aye Yaye
acegot replied to fireandrain's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
MAtt WHAT"S UP!!!!!!!!! I've never had a problem with grass. Pre-wet well put down canvass tarp, fold the edge over try to contain any runoff, then re-wet. When you sand after stripping, sand the "open" areas with your half sheet, then lightly hand block the edges & the groove. (PS, heard you ran into one of our competitors at the hardware store) Lyle -

ipe deck, pool
acegot replied to nick_nite's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Again i'm inquiring on how you wash a deck & recover the water & debris before it goes to the ground. It sounds like by your post that you can do that, otherwise content shouldn't be posted in a deck restoration thread of this topic. If not, this posting should be in flatwork. JMO You have a nice setup, ben envious for years, just dont do much other than decks. -

acegot replied to nick_nite's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
So how do you recover the water when you wash a deck? -
If it fills a need it wouldnt be bad I feel. A friend of mine has one, he cleans it well after every daily use, no problems after a year. I used a cheap one similar from harbor frieght, it lasted 2 years applying all our oxalic & citric acids, then it started to leak a little then the battery died so I chucked it. The Shurflo is better quality.

acegot replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I was just seeing how anyone thought the A-C was holding up so far. By what I've seen, its obvious the semi-trans look better than than the toners. -

Armstrong-Clark maintenance
acegot replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
No problems, I saw one the other day that was what I would consider average for 11 months exposure. We didnt load this one up with as much material as we usually do cause it will be an annual clean & recoat. -

Rymar has additives in there "Extreme Weather" formula for the above. Tried their best product some years ago when it was only $250. a 5 gal pail. Good product, just not cost effective. Rymar Wood Sealer with Nano Particle Technology

Sealer an additional cost to price per sq. foot?
acegot replied to Phil Rogers's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Some seperate out the materials. I charge all inclusive sq ft price. If it is a really dry deck or something that would add a lot more materials I will add an extra charge. -
I used to mix 1gallon of 300 series to 4 gallon of 500 series to give it more (body) with higher resin content. worked well. 300 series is crazy expensive these days.

Favorite latex deck stain?
acegot replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Correct Alan, On composite decking (Trex, Evergrain etc.) you can clean it with a per-carb cleaner or a house wash mix,(if there is a lot of mildew, algae) Rinse well, let dry and recoat with solid color stain of choice. -

Favorite latex deck stain?
acegot replied to plainpainter's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I've done quite a few solid stains (acrylic latex) when needed. They look really good. I've prepped & solid stained composites before, makes 'em look like new. Behr has a seperate color chart of all the factory colors of the major brand composites. The Behr solid acylic latex is a good product, been using it for 15 years, 2 or 3 years ago they come out with a nano technology formula solid that is very durable. Did a job 2 years ago with the nano solid , looked at it about a month ago, looks like the day I put it on. Behr has great quality paints & solid stains, but we all know their other stains are CRAPPP!! -
