  1. Did you open the second pic? For some reason it uploaded different, I tried it twice.
  2. Just for fun, what wood is this?
  3. Here is a Cumaru deck I cleaned & brightened (oxalic) on Saturday. It was scheduled for its first main.(with light sand) this spring, but the homeowner had a new fireplace insert put in & the Co. that installed it decided to trim the metal sides & top with a cut off wheel on the new deck. Here are picks. I'm still doing the first maint. in the spring. Dont know if I'm going to use Messmer's - Defy for hardwoods or Wood Tux.
  4. I applied an Armstrong Clark - Preserv-a-Wood blend. The Preserv-a-Wood has faster drying oils.
  5. Ken, I still think if the deck had been maintained the first 10 years or so it would be in better shape no matter how low to ground. The center 10 boards of the deck are the worst. So the sun dried them out so bad to allow the cracking, then the topical water gets in to aid in the deterioration. Uv protection would have been key on this deck.
  6. Yea, I know. I should have named the the thread Hardwood deterioration. (I was half asleep when I posted) I think it is Mahogany, even though it looks different than the other 2 Mahogany decks I do. One of the other Mahog. decks I do has the kerfs in the bottom of the board also to reduce cupping. The point of this thread was to emphasize the importance of maintaining all exterior wood deck types. It looks like the predrilled, just not with a countersink bit.
  7. Here are more pics of the restoration. This deck was/is hammered. I did a quickie to make it presentable for a party. Cleaned, light sanded, color matched & blended into what wasnt down to bare wood. Overall looks decent.
  8. These photos of a deck I worked on a month ago. THIS IS WHY HARDWOODS SHOULD BE MAINTAINED (sealed) & THE END CUTS WAXED(sealed). Don't know how old the deck is, but it had a couple of coats of something on it for 3 or so years.
  9. You need to use that powerwasher to soft-wash off your chems, not rinse after scrubbing, with the right chems there is no need for scrubbing. Why use the p-washer if your not goiing to utilize it. As Mike said, use the search tool.
  10. :dance:Congratulations Adrian!!
  11. Messmer's has got a good reputation (based on pics & testimonials) of their Hardwood formula holding up very well on hardwoods. Go to The Pro Sealer Store banner on TGS & checkout all their sealers, and read about them.
  12. You can use the Messmer's on the Teak as well.
  13. Happy Thanksgiving!

  16. Are You A Perfectionist ?

Standards, standards are great, cause there are so many to choose from. Thats the only way I can keep my sanity, I have very high standards, Ive learned to choose the right standard for each job, based on certain criteria. It has simplyfied my life. Great mat. Ken
  17. A half sheet orbital Milwaukee Or Bosch will out sand a 5 or 6" RO. I use the 1/2 sheet for the large areas & a RO 6" for edging. Just remember, if it is round its RO, if its square or rectangular its orbital.
  18. It's been 2 years today since Shane last visited TGS. Wonder how he is?
  19. What sealer/stain are you going to use? This time of year it probably won't go any lower on 3 mo. old cedar. I'd go for it, I've done newer fences late in the year & they've looked good for 4 years.
  20. You know what SPF stands for? Severe - Product - Failure !
  21. My competition back to work

That's a good opportunity for you! Capitalize on it & smile!
  22. Interesting Daniel, it's amazing those guys would choose that Cabot's product. The REAL WORLD taught those guys a lesson on deck restoration.
  23. We will be off the boards for the next 10 days

Good Luck Jim, hope everthing goes well.
