I ds'ed my first moldy house today
douseahouse replied to Jarrod's question in Residential Pressure Washing
crap! i just ordered 5lbs of e-plus. i was wanting to try it out so i didn't stick my neck out too far. i'm still awaiting some feedback on the limonene if anyone has tried it. i also order the 5lbs of ripper to give it a shot. i'll keep you posted on that one too. (ripper cleans the streaks off gutters)and one more thing...i just cleaned a sidewalk at the local and best seafood place in town. there was alot of rust on his freezer pad so i hit it with the oxalic. holy cow! that stuff works and works fast! i came home and ordered another 7 lb bucket for about 13 bucks from the chemistry store. unfortunately i had to pay $9 shipping and another $2.5 for handling. anyone using a generic at a more reasonable cost? rando for sale: 5lb bag of e-plus -

douseahouse replied to Jarrod's question in Residential Pressure Washing
hey gym, are you getting the citracleen from steve? i'd love to try it but from i can tell on his site it only comes in liquid form. is this correct? liquid anything costs extra to ship. rando -
cleaning composite
douseahouse posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
wow, i'm really a newbie at wood cleaning. i'm bidding on a house with a composite deck that appears to have mildew stains on it. assuming that it is what is recommended to use on a composite deck? my first quess would probably be regular house wash. am i close? rando -
I ds'ed my first moldy house today
douseahouse replied to Jarrod's question in Residential Pressure Washing
i'm going to throw this question in on this thread since we're also talking about types of housewash. i have the 55 gallon mix for limonene that was kindly donated by envirospec during the nc round table event. has anyone tried this product and can testify? before i mix i was hoping to have a "heads up" on it as it is supposed to be equivalent to bleach on removing mold and mildew. can i mix bleach with it to give it the extra punch? this will be a prouduct that i can both x-jet and downstream. thanks paul at envirospec for the free product. rando -
Full time or part time?
douseahouse replied to One Tough Pressure's question in Residential Pressure Washing
since i have a full time job i have made this a part time adventure. i have worked in maintenance with goodyear tire for the past 23 years as an electrician. i bought my first pressure washer 15 years ago (1500 psi simpson). i bought it "6 months same as cash" and then put an add in the local paper to pay for it. guess what? it didn't take me 6 months after all. simpson makes a great washer so i used this machine for about 14 years and then bought a dewalt from home depot last year. i knew the union and goodyear was not going to come to terms on the contract so i cranked up the business with advertising and upgrades. we did go on strike for 3 months and the business really helped fill the void. this year i bought a cargo van and a hot water rig (thanks john) and i'm talking to the yellow page people right now. i hope to retire from goodyear in the next 7 years and can use this business as a hobby and a great source of income. oh, and by the way, the simpson still works. rando -
concerning the walmart container... it's actually a blue 7 gallon water container. it has a removeable valve on it so the cap is already threaded for 3/4 npt. i bought a couple of barb connectors (3/8 for the x-jet) and put one on each side of the cap. i cut off the filter end of the x-jet and hook up to the inside barb. plug the hose into the outside barb and you're ready to go. it's located in the camping section and even has a handle built into it. cost? around 9 bucks. don't thank me, bob at pressue tek shared this with me. but, if you insist on sending money... rando

i like the proportioners as they are easy to pop on and off and give me an accurate idea of my mix. i use a trigger gun instead of putting it on the end of a wand as it's alot easier to handle that way. i've got a 7 gal water bucket that i modified to carry my chems in. you can get this bucket at walmart and it's already threaded for 3/4 npt for about 9 bucks. email me if you have any questions about it. rando

i like the term "waterboom" better. if you own one you will probably want to blow it up. rando

Truck units or Trailers ?
douseahouse replied to itswillist's question in Residential Pressure Washing
i like the van concept as you can store your equipment safely. a truck will hold everything too but if you have to drive to the parts or supply store then your equipment is exposed while you shop. if you go with a trailer i like the enclosed type. but, if you're carring chems then the open trailer sure will vent better. rando -
where do you get this stuff? i found it on ebay but i think it can be bought cheaper. what does it clean? i'm looking for something that will remove the rust stains off of concrete. i have some hydroflouric acid (aluminum brightner 2) that is supposed to do the job but that stuff has been know to kill you. thanks, the life you save may be mine. rando

this is an old post that somehow came back to life. i found and bought some oxalic acid from the chem store. i haven't used it yet but i plan on using it on rust stains in concrete as i understand it works well at removing them. thanks for the heads up, rando

working great john...i tested it on my house this past weekend and i am one happy camper. take care, rando

concerning oxalic, if you are washing a deck and you notice rust stains from the nails will this stuff work without damaging the finish? now take in mind that's i'm only cleaning off the deck and not stripping. thanks, rando

speakin of bob, i got a great tip from him today. i was looking for the x jet portable container and called bob. he told me about one at wal-mart (it's blue and holds 7 gallons). the cap is already threaded as it also doubles as a spout holder. i had to buy a couple of 3/4" plastic barb connectors and screwed one into each side. now i have my own portable x jet tank for less than 10 dollars total. thanks bob, rando

i agree on the 1st year deal. you can usually get a special as they want you to get a taste how effective it can be. i'm getting two ads for the price of one. now, next year it will cost me double and i'm going to have to weigh the options. the local paper and inserts are a good source of advertisement but also not a bargain. rando

before i letter my new (used but new to me) van, i am considering changing my company name. maybe people are just slow in my area but i have to spell this name the majority of the time that i talk to potential clients and when people call they tend to mispronounce the name entirely. i'm maybe thinking of "douse your house", "randy's roof and house wash", and a few others. so, i need a little input. do you have a name to share or recommend? or, is douse a house a good name after all? thanks in advance for your input gang. rando
-
i agree, i was afraid that maybe the name makes me sound like a residential cleaner only. good idea beth about the logo. my business card shows a bucket of water being thrown on the company name. i think a house smiling would be kewl. i'm still kicking it around before i put my name on the van and in the yellow pages. thanks for all the great input. rando

Methods & chems for 2/3 story Vinyl cleaning & wood prep
douseahouse replied to Window_Ace's question in Residential Pressure Washing
i concur. apply the wash solution with at least 1 or 2 percent shc (depending on how dirty it is), let it work and rinse. the x-jet or m-5 is an amazing addition to your equipment as you can meter your output with the proportioners and it's so much faster. i prefer the proportioners since it is so easy to go through a 5 gallon bucket without them. talk to bob at pressuetek. he's a super nice guy with plenty of good information (and it's free). good luck, rando -
try dynamite, it's the only thing that i have found to remove artillery fungus. rando
