Thanks for the advise. The furniture I am not worried about as I have quite a bit of experience with wood working. It has a lacquer finish so I will need to fill the grain and reapply the lacquer. I was thinking about bleach white for the cieling stains to see if that will work, but I will try the bleach trick. I am hoping he has the paint laying around that he used to do the ceilig with so I can touch it up and feather it out. I am goint to go over tomorrow and see what I can do.

Nice house Jeff, good luck. That house in Rhode Island would be about 800k plus and taxes over 9k per year. But as you have said, it's all relative. I plan on retiring to myrtle beach one day. I just have to tell my wife.

hey don, I am over in RI and have been wondering the same thing. I am strongly considering hood cleaning not only for winter biz but for regular accounts as well. If you get the hoods, you can probably get the flat work and buildings as well. I have checked the local phone book and noone advertises cleaning hoods but someone must be doing them. I think the next step is to call a bunch of area restaraunts and inquire who they use and if they are happy to help me evaluate the demand for the service.

Jeff, Try superpages.com to find a business managment company. I agree with most of the otheres. Use quickbooks, it's so easy once you get it set up. The problem is that quick books is set up to run a small pw company or a huge company and therefore it is intimadating because 90 % of the stuff you see you don't need. Find a quick books class for you and your wife and learn it together and properly file everything. I would also recommend a book keeper, you probably know one and don't even know it. They can probably organize your companies finances in a few hours a week including payroll - which quickbooks also does. Give someone $25 an hour for 4 hours of time a week and you should be all set. once a month they print a bunch of reports for you and can see everything clear as day as far as performance. classified, Book Keeper wanted, 4-6 hours per week, $25 per hour. Quick Books and payroll experience needed. Make your own hours. Call Jeff - Myrtle beach's power washing king.

I Made 300 I Mean 100 Dollars Today
mas3372 replied to PRESSURE PACKED's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I have realized that my magic number for a one man operation is that I should be grossing about $100 per hour for my whole day. From when I leave my house until I get back the clock starts. If I am gone 8 hours and make $800 I did good and will be able to pay the bills and have the extra cash on hand to enjoy things, anything over that, which is more often than not, is a bonus. -
Nice work. Try that with a shooter tip and a downstream operations. No bucket, less chems, less over spray and just as nice.

I am so sick of hearing, the gas prices this and the gas prices that. We can't afford $500 for this and for that because of the gas prices. Yes, I think gas is expensive. I hate paying $3 per gallon, I hate paying $2 per gallon. Yes I think the gas game is pathetic and we should seak alternative energy sources. But I am sick of everyone using a nickle increase as an excuse. Case and Point. My truck uses about 20 gallon per week for my commuting to from the staion, errands, pw, etc. At $2.5 a gallon, thats $50, gas is up to $3 per gal and so I pay $60. A ten buck difference. Yes this adds up, I get it. But a $10 a week increas for some has given them this excuse as to why they can't afford so many other things. It's not that much of a difference. And what really gets me mad. Two stations across from one another have a 1 cent difference. And the cheaper station has lines down the road. so while I am paying the whole extra penny per gallon which totals a whole whopping 20 cents on the final tab, I can't help but to think. How dumb are some people to not be able to do the math and realizing they are waiting in line for 20 minutes to save a quater. Are we all that caught up in gas prices that we can't figure out the actuall monetary difference. Then there is my grandfather who will travel 3 miles to save a penny, well, thats o.k. because he is family and he's old. Thanks for letting me vent.

What is your average driving distance to job?

20 minutes north, 20 minutes west, 30 minutes south and 20 minutes east and no more Rhode Island. I love it though -
What is your average driving distance to job?
mas3372 replied to mdspowerwashing's topic in Business Topics & Tips
3-5 miles on average. I went 14 miles today and that was a haul for me. It's a rhode island thing, if the drive is more than 10 minutes, its outta the way. -
Love it, Love it, Love it. I am a golf addict. Shoot high 80s low 90s and yes that is for 18 holes. It's addicting because it's tough, expensive and the wife hates it.

Great stuff, I mostly use it on painted wood with great results. 3 gall of 12%, 2 gallons h2o and 2 scoops of the cherry. for vinly I have found that citrus cleaner is a bit better, not much. for mild homes I will use the cherry since it is cheaper.
-
BAM, Recieved about 15 calls in the last two days and already have 8 scheduled this week. Finally.
-
I use 3 gallons 12%, 2 Gallons of citrus cleaner, 1/2 cup of cascade for the windows and it works great. Downstream of course.

Perspective, I agree John. When things are $70 tight, then $50 does make a difference. I agree with you there. I am talking about people who won't pay $350 to have their house washed because they spent an extra $10 in gas that week.

Check a local self storage place. Around here they are $100 per month for a 12 x 20, pretty large, Put all your stuff in there, you could even fit your rig perhaps. I have none of my powerwashing stuff at home and I love it. I am lucky enough to have a good friend with a large shop for his landscaping equipment and he rents me a spot. I leave work at work and come home to relax.

Have you seen this truck? Lessons leearned form a theft
mas3372 replied to Larry B's topic in Business Topics & Tips
The only thing I have had stolen is the Gas. Sometimes I will take my rig to the firestation when I work nights and do the oil changes and stuff on my down time. Twice so far I have woken, driven to my first job and the 5 gallon gas can is empty and the can attached to the unit was siphoned out. i know it is $3 per gallon, but come on. -
Are house washes still slow, they are here. I need business.
-
I had all these problems then I called bob at pressure tek and he sent me everything I need for under $50 and I have no problems. Run 250' of hose and leave the bucket at the truck.

need help!! xjetting oxalic/?????
mas3372 replied to andrew hartigan's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I use an empty corn can. 5 and 1/2 cans equals 4 pounds or oxalic. I have found that I need to apply the oxalic first to get rid of the rust. If not, the acid will just neutralize rather than anything else. -
When life gives you potatoes, make vodka. I am very new myself. But I have learned that the sky is the limit and the only thing stopping success is not marketing it. I know that if I had the time to get out there everyday I could quit my job and make a good living. But I love my job, so that won't happen. If you play your cards right you will do just fine. Good Luck. ps. the days you get stressed out, don't take it out on the ones supporting you. I did that once, just once.

estimate sheet(what do u think??)
mas3372 replied to andrew hartigan's topic in Documents, Forms & Proofs
Andrew, This is what I do and so far it has been good for me. I leave three peices of paper with every bid. One is the invoice which you saw above. The other is an advisment that states what I need them to do before I power wash as well as somethings that they need to be aware of. the third peice is sorta like a newsletter which describes my services to them. If I can't meet with them to give the bid, at least this will tell them a bit about me and what I do. If I do meet with them, it will remind them later. This letter along with the advisement, I think, Shows that I take concern and pride in my work. It anserws questions that they didn't even know they should ask. I think it also sets me aside from the joe lowballer who just gives a price and walks away. I attached the two other forms below. washing letter to post.doc[/ATTACH] Power Washing Advisement to post.doc
