  1. aluminum siding

Hello, Have my first aluminum siding house tomorrow to do. Just got the job this AM. I have on hand, powerhouse, emulisfier plus, 12%, simple cherry, prodigy (fleet wash), and tuff stuff. Not really any oxidation or mold. Just wants it washed because he wants to paint the aluminum siding. My question is which of these would be safest and most effective for the aluminum. I have read that it is easy to take the paint off and although he intends to paint it, I don not want to remove paint in the event he dosn't paint it for sometime. Thanks
  2. I have been searching like crazy for best methods to add wax. It seems diveres that some downstream with chems and some do a separate application. Some like hot water, some like cold. If you offer wax, please select your application method and feel free to offer what waxes you use or have used and any preferences. Thanks.

  4. I need to sand it, there are a ton of splinters from the construction phase. I don't plan on taking off layers of wood, just smooth it over a bit.
  5. Thanks so much Rick. I will be cleaning it on Thursday day, Sanding and staining over next weekend with weather permitting. I plan on a light sodium hyrdroxide to to remove as much oil as possible and neutrilize with an oxalic and citric blend. No stain on it now, just 7 months of weather, but I want to break down as much natural oil as possible to help penetration. Probably just rent a floor sander to sand it to save time and use some 80 grit. Then throw on some natural cedar to start off with and then judge if I would want it a bit darker. Wish me luck. Thanks again.
  6. Great info Rick, as usual thanks. I feel foolish for not even thinking about raising the grain and the sanding to help curb that. I will certainly do it that way. I checked the samples, it was actually Medium Red I had. I am thinking about going with the Natural Cedar to start in the redwood only formula as recommended by Ready Seal. How do you feel about which formula to usa. For intensive purposes, Cumaru is almost identicle as Ipe, so which would you use for Ipe? Thanks again.
  7. I will be sealing my cumaru deck next week, very similar to Ipe. It has weathered about 7 months and I dont' mind sealing it now and again at the end of summer. No rails, just decking makes it easy. The deck needs to be sanded as well. I read here that everyone washes, neutrilizes then sands...I would think to sand first so the dust is washed away. Is there a reason to sand last? Also, I am tossed between readyseal right now and woodtux. I recieved samples from ready seal today, light brown, med brown, cedar and light red and they all look the same on the test piece. However, the test peice has not weathered like my deck. Any thoughts?
  8. Exotic woods

This was a great thread. Forgot about this one. This is when I had time to build furniture, now I am trying to find time to post on the forums. Just thought I might bump it up in case anyone is interested.
  9. Hello, So I decided I was going with a flat bed for this year and plan on a plow and sander for it next year. I want a cab over mitsubishi or US for the reliablity and fuel mileage. I have been told by a few dealers that the 2wd will plow like a champ with the sander on the back and I should have no problem. There are 4wd out there, just very rare and expensive. Anyone have any experience or advice on using these 2wd for plowing. Thank.s
  10. WOW #2 ...another craigslist ad

The $100 gets to read it and to make it pop.
  11. drilling wells

Hello, I am having a sprinkler system put in my yard finally. I just hate paying for city water to water my grass and flowers. I am considering a well. I have also been told of a Point Well for high water tables, which I live in. Anyone have any idea what a well costs to have put in and the cost of the Point Well, pros and cons of either. I will keep my city water for everything inside. Just need water for irrigation so I am not concerned about hard water or filtration. Thanks.
  12. drilling wells

Rod, Thanks for the great info. I live in a high water table area, from what I have been told, water in the area has been hit as low as 25'. Not sure if I will be so lucky. I will have to call a few places tomorrow to get some ideas and prices. Thanks again.
  13. Pricing a vinyl home?

Dan, I tell my customers about how long it will take and justify it with my top quality equipment and explain it would take them a weekend to do an inferior job with homeowner equipment. My landscaper takes 25 minutes to cut my grass, sweep my drive, trim, edge my beds and weed them. It would take me 5 hours. I don't minde spending the $45 per week because the outcome is better than I would accomplish and I saved 5 hours of my time. For that house, I would charge a base of $230 plus $45 for high peaks and bump outs. Those are what eat up time. A box is easy and fast to clean, throw the extra shapes in and the clock runs. That puts it $275, I would upsell the wax because I highly recommend it when customers don't wash their house annually, help keep it cleaner longer. The wax would run $70, that puts me at $345. While I am their I would upsell a deck wash for around $100, depending on the size - assuming it is an average 12x12. Now I am at $445. No gutters, money lost there. Upsell the walkway and front steps by showing them the difference and they will surely pay the extra $60. That simpe house is now worth $505 and is still only taking a couple hours. I could charge as much as Ken but my close rate woudl drop. I close about 75% now and am happy with it.
  14. 2-way etiquette?

    1. Send the chirp, wait 15 seconds, 2. Send an alert - no response, wait 15 minutes and alert again. All nextels have a queeve log and will show missed calls. If they don't call you back in 15, they are busy or forgot. If they don't answer again, they will see your call and get back to you. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER just start talking and have a conversation. this is the rudest most annoying thing ever. I hate it when people do that. The reason I got rid of nextel, that an lousy service.

  16. Stolen Equipment

I can buy a tandam axle in Rhode Island with or without a vin and registered it as homemade and noone would ever know.

Aiden Joseph is what we would have used had we had a boy. Of your choices I like Joseph Paul or if I could mix them, I like Marcus Joseph.
  18. Thank you Mr. lowballer

I never lower my prices due to a low baller or someone crying poverty with a BMW in the driveway. As much as I hate getting a job, I love telling people that my price is my price.
  19. Raising Pressure

Superclean Perhaps questions were asked so that they could answer your question the best way possible. We are all professionals on this board and come here to help each other out. It is possible that perhaps someone has a great deal of experience in what you are tryng to accomplish and could offer you advice beyond your expectations. Or better yet, perhaps someone is trying to learn from what you are trying to clean and by knowing what you are cleaning with what pressure and what soaps could certainly teach them something. If want to ask a question, you need to keep and open mind. This board is for everyone.
  20. I know, Sopranos, that was so last month. I know, but being a Sopranos Junkie, I can't let it go. The last season was great. Chris being eliminated was overdue and very fitting. Pauly made me laugh and AJ finally learned how to act (better anyways). But what happened at the diner? Yes, I think the producer did a great job leaving the end for us to decide, but with so many variables, I am having a hard time deciding. I kinda wish they did scooby doo endings and then I could have just picked my favorite. A big part of me wants Tony to live and finish his life being the boss, no time in prison, just run the streets, but I think I prefer this so that only the show would have life to continue - should it ever. But the moral side of me wants him put in jail, not dead, just jail for a while. Who knows. Anyways, Hit the poll with what you think happened and please elaborate on any views you may have. I need one more episode, or a least some closure.
  21. Sopranos - How did it really end?

How can know that it was intended that Tony was left to be the boss and continue as normal. I would love it to be that way, but I get no confirmation during the final episode that that was the intent.
  22. Do Not Mail" List

After thinking about it more, I am not worried about it all that much. The do not call list was huge, unsolicited calls during dinner and evenings is so annoying and therefore that much motive to eliminate it. Unsolicited mail is dealt with once per day at their convienance and simply disregarded without any pressure from salesman. I just can't imagine that much of an effort into a do not mail program. I do think that should someone request no mailings, respect it.
  23. Randolph Ma Need teacher

Jeff, I am in Coventry, RI. I am not that busy right now with the summer drop but he wants to tag along, thats fine. I have a few planned for next week and then am booking for the week after. I only do a day or two a week but he is more than welcome.
  24. Do Not Mail" List

From a everyday person, I like it. I throw away tons of junk mail everyday. As a business owner, I don't like is since mail is my main form of advertising. I don't see it passing though, the USPS would fight it to the end, they would lose to much money.
  25. Sopranos - How did it really end?

I have a neighbor who swears he is "connected", drives me crazy. If someone is "connected", they sure as heck don't advertise it. I hate wanna bees
