  1. Well, they got me...

I would love to donate but I just put a nice contribution in at a fundraiser I organized for MDA with the firestation. We raised $6500 in 6 hours. good luck with your fundraiser.
  2. Simple Cherry Housewash Mix

Keep the price low. A 2 gallon bucket at home depot with lid is 3 bucks. Every bag I buy fits pefectly into the bucket and lasts about 15-20 house washes. But a new bag of sc and top off the bucket. Very simple. I would hate to throw away a bucket everytime I am finished and spend more money. Labels would be great but they would probably peel off when they get wet. I just use a sharpie.
  3. Simple Cherry Housewash Mix

John, What do you mean by hardboard siding. If you mean clapboard it works great. T-111 even comes out good. A little more mix is required to get it wet and a few extra minutes of dwell but it works great.
  4. Where do you hang out your shingle?

Do all my book keeping and business end at home. Make my phone calls where ever my cell has service. I keep my equipment at a friend's landscaping garage 3 miles away.
  5. chalking

Thanks for the help. I realize this house is shot. I brushed and still chalking, I tried sodium Hydroxide and it was little better. The front looks faded in comparison to the remainder of the house. I have a feeling that a combination of cheap vinyl, heavy sun exposure and 12 years has done this siding in. I have considered the wax option but I don't feel right offering the customer a temp. solution. I will explain to him the temp fix vs. new vinyl vs. a product called restora and go from there. Has anyone used restora? If so, worth it?
  6. chalking

Tracy, Where on your site do you have the restore products for vinyl, I was unable to find it.
  7. chalking

thanks for the help. I did consider the wax option but was advised by a few vendors that it will last maybe 3 months at best. I don't want to shortchange a customer with a temp. fix if the reality is that his siding is just shot. I am considering the restore as an option to provide him as suggested by Tracy but I have never used this product and would not want a good customer to be my guinea pig.
  8. chalking

Thanks Dan, I did consider two stepping today and the heck of if, I did spray some oxalic on a section before rinsing the alkalline and it still had chalking. I do not know if oxalic is right to use but it is the only acid I have on hand. Ron, I rinsed real well, the chalking was there before I even started as well. The vinyl is 12 years old and the chalking is mostly on the front. I spoke with Bob from P tek today and he feels at though the vinly might just be shot from all the sun exposure. The homeowner did mention that he lost his job while building the house and ended up going from cedar impression to regular vinyl to save money, perhaps he bought a cheap vinyl as well?
  9. O.K. did some more research for you. The 9227cy is just the polisher. The 922cx3 is the same polisher but was sold with extra items such as a dust bag or case. If you are buying it used, you are getting the same tool, but new, you get some add-ons. go to amazon.com and enter just the item number for each one and you will see what I mean.
  10. If they are the same exact tool the different number probably reflects an older version vs. a new version. Usually tools keep the same number but when they improve something or change something in the design or components they will change from type 1 to type 2 and so on for every change. Keeps it easy for the repair shop when they service a tool, they can use the correct parts diagram. some tools will slightly modify the number as in above. If they appear to be the same tool, just double check. A slight change in number might also mean a slight difference in options. for example a drill with a keyless chuck may be 92227cy and the keyed chuck might be 922cx3.
  11. State of Affairs - Gas Prices etc

I am paying $2.52 and thought I was getting a great deal. I guess New England pays more. It was $3.25 two weeks ago.
  12. Egg Removal

I just had some egg yesterday on a vinyl house. I use a sodium metasilacte cleaner for siding and butyl for the gutters. Whatever the house wash dosn't get off I scrub with the butyl. It worked great for the egg. Had one stubborn spot that would not come off and kud krutter did the trick.
  13. Example of my housewashing

I would have gotten $500 or so but then upsell the brick and decks for about $150 more. About 2 1/2 hours to 3 hours and just as clean. I would have used about 4 gallons of 12% and 1 gallon h20, 2 scoops simple cherry and 1/2 cup cascade for the windahs. The decks would have been washed the same, brick as 3well but with 150 degrees.
  14. Myrtle Beach Golf

Hello, I am planning my vacation with the guys for the end of October. I have been to myrtle beach once last year and loved it. We played longbay, man o war, crows creek, and bay tree. This year I am considering Witch Wizard Kings North Possum Trot Farmstead and Aberdeen Does anyone out there have any courses they recommend or think any of the above are not worth it. Also, I used myrtlebeachtravel.com last time to book, anyone know of another booking agency. Perhaps Jeff, the myrtle beach king of power washing will chime in. I may stop by and have you power wash my clubs between rounds. thanks, Mike
  15. 9/11 - who done it!

Everything I need to know about Islam I learned on September 11, 2001. I may be ingnorant with this comment, I may be insensitive to the millions of innocent islamic believers, but to be honest, I don't care. Our government may not always do the right thing, but it breaks my heart to know that fellow Americans can not see the forrest thru the trees and try to blame the attacks on our own leaders.
  16. I used to be a nice guy, but...

On occasion I run into the landscapers being there. they usually do the whole job in under 20 minutes. time I utilize to mis detergents, check fluids, return phone calls, etc. If a side of the yard has been cut, I will start there so long my hoses are safe. I also prefer them not to be home. All paper work is in their hands prior to my service. they recieve a reminder call the evening before and we decide on a spot where they will leave the signed paperwork with a check. I do my job and leave a reciept in the same spot. I prefer them not be home and usually the homeowner loves it because they do not need to take time out of the day. My only requiement if they are not home is they I have a contact number for them. I require this in the event that I see loose siding, a damaged light, etc., I call them prior to my work and tell them so there is no blame game. This is usually done during the estimate as well.
  17. Downstreamer Poll - Vote now!

Thanks Dan, Will give it a try.
  18. Downstreamer Poll - Vote now!

I keep it simple. A dual lance wand with 3 tips. A 60 degree soap tip for the bottom of houses up to about 12' and a shooter tip for from 12' to 35' to apply soap. And my M5 to rinse everything with. I wear cargo shorts, my cell phone in the right pocket and the tips in the left.
  19. Make sure you get a shooter tip from bob as well. The $10 is well worth it, get two incase you lose it. The shooter tip lets me shoot chems up 35 feet and with a breeze you can use the breeze to get some extra hieght - takes some trial and error. dont' retire the x-jet all together. I use my M5 to rinse before and after - without the hose and chems of course.
  20. Myrtle Beach Golf

Thanks everyone, I am staying in North Myrtle Beach and I think my courses will be The Witch tidewater possom trot farmstead heather glen aberdeen I think, I could always change my mind AGAIN.
  21. Myrtle Beach Golf

Thanks for the info RC, Perhaps since they are owned by them same, I may be able to get the half play rate if I play two in the same day. I played last april and it was very nice, I am excited to see it in the fall now.
  22. Suggestions on which HOT PW to purchase

Thats 6700 souns a bit steap. I have a 24hp, becket burner,5.6 gpm general pump, 24 hp honda, hour meter adjustable thermostat, 8 gallon gas and diesel, easy drain plugs for fluids and I paid $1000 less with tax and shipping.
  23. Gutter Cleaning Price Survey

I try to avoid them because I hate doing them, but if things are slow and people want to spend the money I charge like this. 1st story is 85 cents per foot 2nd story is 1.25 per foot 3rd storty is 1.50 per goot. $125 minimum for in town as I always require and $175 min for outta town. Many don't want to pay it, but the ones do, it makes it worth the hassel.
  24. strange encounter with competition

I had a similar instance with my biggest competitor who has been doing it for 10 years and me just on my first year. He stopped by when he saw me doing a house. Sized up my rig and complimented my work. I keep all my chems in blank container as I do not want homeowners to try to order it and do it themselves. This made him ask what I use to get such great results and I was hones with him and told him I keep that to me and he was understanding. Long story short, I actually taught a 10 year vet on downstreaming and a few other timesavers I have learned. 3 months later, he has given me many referrals and in exchange I refer him to people for sealcoating since he does this as well and it works out great.
  25. Not Thinking

I use a 5.6 gpm and a 55 gallon tank for my surplus supply for poor water supply homes and also a place to run my bypass back to from the unloader. With a 5.6 gpm and a 55 gallon tank, I never draw more than 20 gallons from my tank. A small 25 gallon tank from tractor supply would probally be plenty, throw in a hudson float valve and run your unloader back to the tank or to the ground as philip recommends. I dont' like the though of relying on a thermal relief valve when you can eliminate one more extra part and keep it simple.
