  3. What it costs to be in business.

I to would like to take the opportunity to thank you for this forum as well as wish the best in a quick recovery. What does it cost??? According to my better half "The lack of need for a decent wardrobe". When all you wear is company Golf shirts or company T's. In order to run a succesful business you must pay dearly at the beggining. Didn't mean to take it so far off track.Rod and Beth, thanks again for a site that is instrumental in the ability to learn our trade.
  4. The Music Game

    Heaven and Hell--Black Sabbath
  5. Bathroom break????

A smartalec boss at a tree farm asks one of his employees " show me the front of that tree". Guy walks all around the tree, and says "thats the front right there". Boss says "how do you figure that". Employee says "somebody S--t right behind it". Emerg bathroom visits happens to most at some point in time. Alot easier to ask a customer if they showed up professional looking in uniform, than just a bleached out and hole infested t-shirt.Still prefer they use a public bathroom if possable.
  6. As usuall.Well put Ken. It's all about the sales ability. You have two ears and one mouth. If you learn to listen twice as much as you talk, you'll find out their hot buttons. Straight commision sales people are among the highest paid proffesions. Period. If you spend more time qualifying, and counceling, you'll spend less time trying to close the deal. You also need to know when to shut up and just ask for the order!
  7. Anyone certified through SM

I know I'm going to get slammed here. Oh well. All my guns are split nozzle with the triggers taped in the on position. Only problem is if someone forgets to loosen off the throttle before firing up.
  8. I've been finding that alot of people didn't even know you could do it. It seems that they just need to be informed. Heck, it wasn't all that long ago that I found out.
  9. Anthony What is the bulk of your work if it's not houses and decks?
  10. if you......you might be a pressure washer

  11. You are just staining a deck. How hard can that be. I'd do it myself, but I don't have time. You want how much? Some will see the benefits of a proffesional service, and some won't. I know myself, that every once in a while I get a little surprised at how much things cost.
  12. Concrete cleaning and staining

Thats 3 trips there if all goes according to plan. I'd go higher than that.Nobody else responding, just my .02
  13. I just fired my son three days ago.It was 95 degrees (unbearibly hot for us).My son tried telling me he was wearing a muscle shirt instead of the company colors.Believe it or not,we wear shorts and t's most of the time.
  14. Wrong house

Hey Jeff Some days you just can't win. The idea of leaving a card or note is a good idea. Just for the sake of taking it one notch further. When I got started I used to do the odd job for free,as long as I could put my sign on their lawn. That actually got me a fair amount of work. You never know. If you don't ask,you don't get.It may be a blessing in disguise. Thanks for the post. Glad to see we can still laugh at ourselves.
  15. Are sealants bs

I have no idea about sealing vynal/aluminum siding. Never heard of it.Concrete and pavers are easily sealed. Water based sealers don't last all that long. Do not use cheap sealers. Water based goes on milky, and clears dry.If you have ever tried using cheap paint you'll remember how long it took as well as how much more you had to use.I prefer the solvent based. You'll find out quick enough if you need a gripper added.Slippery as heck if you don't and it snows.Don't imagine that it's much of an issue in Jax FL. A good sealer lasts 3-4 years up here. There can be good money in anything if you are good (+ ask for it). Go to your local brick retailers to get an idea what the pros in your area use. I noticed no one else responded. Hope this helps.
  16. Feels like a new machine

Switching over to an airless system for staining. Three to stain tomorrow if mother nature co-operates.

  18. Glossary

I was going to let you know that you are starting to sound as bad as the Canadians, always worrying about offending someone. But I won't, in case it offends someone. a ph of 7 with a high "solubility"
  19. Gas prices

Hey Wallydog I have three pickups. Each one is $95 - $105 to fill depending on which way the wind is blowing. The price per Ltr can change three times a day at the same gas station. No ryme or reason. 90 cents - $1.10 per Ltr. 4.3 ltr's per gallon
  20. algae on deck

I got 19% on my grade 11 chem exam 20 something years ago, but still somehow passed. Now I'm trying to learn from you guys. You are making my head explode. I'm spending way to much on prepackaged cleaners. Thanks for your input, and the time you spend writing. There is a wealth of info on these networks. Richard Clayson Revive Powerwashing Inc. 22. "lab test"

We __only___ use split nozzle guns. We can adjust pressure as we go, depending on each individual circumstance. Agreed there realy is only cedar or pt spruce used in our area. We start off slow and increase pressure as required. I'm to lazy to go back to find out who posted "I've only changed the pump oil once". Remember, OIL is cheaper than metal. Love this site. There's always things to learn. I figuered it was time I added my 2cents worth.
