When I Say I'm Broke...I'm Broke !
Richard replied to One Tough Pressure's question in The Club House
I love objections. But in this case.... I think I'd rather eat my words. Someone please pass the ketchup. -
I've used the pp on gas station awnings. Straight through a pump sprayer. Worked fine. Next time I have some, I'll try my own gutters.

At present, I'm chasing car dealerships for monthly cleaning of their shop floors. Got one so far (long way to go), at least it's a start. I figure if I can get 20 in GTA (greater Toronto area), I can justify two employee salaries. Saves having to do as much retraining in the spring.

Thanks Steve and Tom for the responses I love the tagaway/taginator products. I too warn about possable shadowing. My bigger concern is actually removing the powdercoat. I have warned them about possable damage, indicating that at least the tag will be gone. My guys earlier this year removed the powdercoating on a ladys eavestrough through regular cleaning with a product with a similar chemical make up to Steve R's gutter shock (which I can't get up here). So yes I'm a little gun shy as that mistake cost me $1200 + tax. I'm going to do a test spot and hope the original substrate remains in tact.

Girl, 2, dies after drinking cleaning chemicals from soda bottle
Richard replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Chemicals & Safety
They say the worst feeling in the world is to have to lay one of your children to rest. I can't imagine how that would feel. Let alone having to go the rest of my life knowing that I was at fault. Some times we all need the reminder. Thanks for posting that. If it only wakes up one of us to the possable consquences and how easily it can happen, it's worth the gut wrenching read. My heart goes out to the family. -
RYANH You asked about Canada????? Your dollar is worth a little more (helps cut costs down) and tonnnnns to c and do. Lived here my whole life. Have done the drive to Florida about 8 times. Love your country. Stayed in Acworth GA a few times. If you want an inside scoop you can call me. There is a reason that Niagra Falls (Canadian side) gets millions of visitors a year. I still enjoy the sight. There's alot more there than just the falls. The war of 1812 was fought in this area if history is your gig. I wouldn't even be adverse to playing tour guide for a day if you wanted. Tell the wife we won't talk pressure washing lol.Toronto is just another hour from there. 3,000,000 + people and lots to do.

One of the areas we service was hit with a ban lasting more than 2 months. Although we are legally allowed to continue using HO's water we found that most did not want to possably upset their neighbours. One customer even asked us to delay doing the job knowing we could bring the water in from our area that never saw a water ban. No point pressing the issue. Reschedual (wish this had spell check) for a later date and move along.

A 525 gal empty tank in the back of the roll off truck, not tied down properly, and 70 miles an hour down a six lane hwy don't mix well. At 1am the tank took a flyer out the back. Luckily we were in the slow lane. When I went back in the morning it was in the ditch with the MTO truck there. I got out, played stupid, told him I could use that, he responded with "Merry Christmas". Talk about s___a__ luck.

Washaway I should have mentioned it while we were on the phone. Have you tried the goodyear (yellow)? We've been running them from the beggining. Heavy, absolutly, but they last. 200 ft.+ on a hose reel, no problems yet. We have about 1500 ft. and may have lost 10 or 12. Cut back 5 ft. and crimp on new conecters. The real pain in the _____ is when you have to hand role at the end of the day.

Not that you care, but just to show the differance, we are paying $3.02 American for an American gal. We were as high as $4.73. It's not unusal to see it change .36 gal same gas station, same day. If they did that to our beer all hell would break loose.

I wouldn't know where to start the thank you's. These boards are instrumental to shortening the learning curve. Thanks to all of you for the added knowledge.I learn something every time.

Example of my housewashing
Richard replied to plainpainter's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I'd use a lot more chems than that.Time is money. I use a shurflo, have very little experiance with the down sreaming method, and don't clame to be a master at house washes, in my humble opinion, you were lite on the house wash mixture. -
My Maple Leafs Suck. Have most of my life. I play ice hockey in a league all year long (11 months, close enough). Nothing like going to the rink in July or August wearing the same flip flops you wear in the shower. Sure beats the frozen equipment in the back of your truck in January. One year we did a road trip, Sabres at Hurricanes on Friday, Raiders at Panthers on Sunday, gaitor hunting on Tuesday in the everglades. Great country you have there!

Ipe test project
Richard replied to Celeste's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I hear you guys/gals talking ipe fairly regularly. What region does this grow in? Is it considered hard or soft. I've never actualy seen it. Here it's cedar or pt with composite appearing more and more. I'm originaly a cabinet maker by trade, (not that that is supposed to mean anything). Didn't mean to hijack the thread!!! Sorry -
salutations, my brothers working to build a mold free america!

Welcome aboard Sergio What chemicals did you use? -
I don't know about your area, I'd say you were light. I would have charged more than that.

most costly mistake doing residential
Richard replied to SQUEEKY's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I sent one of my guys to stain a deck. He got it all over the wall, satalite dish, window, pool pump, and concrete stones.Deck looked like crap, and even handed me his time sheet. That was his last paycheck. Cleaned as much as we could, finished the deck, and had to ask the customer if he could forgive me if I said the job was free. What a mess, and embarasment. -
Wow that # is high. I'm just outside Toronto,Ont. Population 3.5 million+. There is plenty of work. Yes there is lowballers everywhere.I'd hazard a guess at 75.

Paver Cleaning and Sealing
Richard replied to Dan Stapleton's question in Residential Pressure Washing
The white powdery substance you are referring to may be effloresence. We would wash with an efflo cleaner. Then wait until it is comletely dry. Any moister can cause a whiting or hazing effect. If you happen to put to much on,and cause a milky effect, just mist it with xylene and it should vanish. No point me talking pricing as I'm north of the border. Some people swear by water based, others solvent based. The USA has a much wider array of suppliers. -
Just recently, one of my newer employees wanted a raise. I told him to spend time on the grime scene,READ READ & READ, then come back and tell me what he learned. He apparantly spent a lot of time, because he rattled off a few things that prior to that had no clue. He got his raise. Thanks to you all,I now have an employee that is a little more knowledgeable. What a wealth of info for all that visit.

We just finished a new brochure. The writer actually called up one of our customers and discussed a testimonial, and wrote it from the phone conversation. I ran into the customer the following week. He actually said he was glad she called as he'd been meaning to do it. We put the testimonial in the brochure.

If a mechanic needs to empty a gas tank on a fairly new vehicle, the tank must be dropped first. They have one way baffles in them. Some people have more balls than brains. And the worst is knowing they walk among us. To lazy to do it the right way. To stupid to realize it hurts everyone. "HERE'S YOUR SIGN" Sorry for the losses, alot of us have had it happen at some point.

Around here most (90%) trailers are white or black. Majority of commercial trucks are white. My trucks and trailers are gray. But then again, I like being the odd one in the croud
