Read, read and read. Some people have published books, some have written articles, some have .....others have started bulletin boards. Read, read and read. OH, by the way, don't believe everything you read.

Do start ups underestimate what it takes?
Richard replied to Mountain View's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Did they go into it thinking "they knew or would learn how to do the work, and that all they had to do was the job and they would be succesfull OR, Did they go into it thinking "that they wanted to own a business", AND, that they would eat sleep and breath it until their business was succesfull. Those are two complete different outlooks. I agree that if you build it, they will come. But if you built it, you better be like the town crier, and let EVERYONE know..They will only come if they know it's there. Sell the job, get the job done in the amount of time slotted, collect the money and the taxes, pay everyone for everything at a profit, (includeing your wages), submit your taxes. NOW, you are starting a business. Now, repeat again and again and again............ If it was easy, everyone would do it and it then would no longer be as rewarding. -
Hi John

I'm hoping you can give me some insite. I'd prefer a phone conversation if you are willing to spend a few minutes on the subject of underground garages.
I need to get a reclaim system in place, No luck yet,and I'm having HUGE issues with the 6' clearance and dealing with what and how.
Any pearls of wisdom. Can I call ??

Problem! Window cleaning...
Richard replied to bigchaz's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Safe Restore. I had one the other week that wasn't rinsed proporly after an eaves wash left a film on the window. Safe restore to the rescue. Worth a try if the window guy can't help. -
Belt Sander

A picture says a 1000 words. Ya, and some times I can't understand a word they're saying. Nice shack they have there. My heart goes out to them. -
Prosoco has a specific detergent for that. I'm sure there are others, like zep. Just a matter of accessability.

Back in April I was at a home (through networking) to look at a deck. I already knew before I got there that this guy knows a few property mngr's in Toronto. We discussed that if he got me two appointments with names & times, actual meetings, that I would restore his deck free of charge, and the rest was up to me. Risky ??? He got me those meetings. This Saturday we are cleaning a 218 spot, 4 level, parking garage right downtown. Today, we did a powerpoint presentation for the second meeting that he'd gotten me. They have 47,000,000 (47 million) sq.ft. of commercial realistate in the GTA alone. Do I think networking is good. Ya, I think so.

Nice web site Carlos -
I did a self applied "Rino Liner" to a pick up 6 or 7 years ago. It had to be redone again the next year. That being said, hopefully you have better success & it holds the test of time. I'll try to ask again in a year or so. Sure does make it look better.

Ken. Which one Brand did you go with?? I've had Zylene and teluline spill. We did a test with MEK (methol ethel keytone) used for disolveing line paint. Nothing. Not even a blemish to the finish. I've got a spot where water has crept in behind at a high traffic (side door) area. Up against the moulding. Overall. One of the smarter investments I've made.

Line X your tailer floor and 12"s up. No way of getting away from water.

What is the biggest challenge to your business right now?
Richard replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
1.What is the biggest challenge to your business right now? Finding the right employees. 2.What can you do or did you do to over come that challenge I don't think that it ever ends. You either continuously move on or become stagnant. 3.Was your effort successful and why or why not? I'm still in business, still growing at a satisfactory rate, so YES 4. If the challenge is beyond your control what are you doing to try to manage your business in spite of it? Adapt, adapt, adapt. If it was easy, everyone would do it, and then it wouldn't as rewarding. 5.Where is your business right now compared to where you thought it might be at the beginning of the year? I was fairly nervous (not like me). I'm close to double last year at this point. 6.Where do you see your business in the next 12 months based upon your specific area? I intend on at least double again. While some of my competitors are standing around on their pity box, preaching how things are, I'm shaking trees and stealing their business. I'm really just trying to help them prove how bad there business is. -
My new toy. Makes it hard keeping the truck clean but it does help ballance out the weight of the trailer. Killer on gas.

Works well for the application I got it for. Moves the heavy stuff in small lots that are to big to do by hand and to small to justify hauling in a rotating sweeper. It also moves the stuff stuck to the pavement making it faster for the sweeper to just come and pick it up. Works in conjunction with the back pack and walk behind blowers. Doing 3 lots with it today.

I have 3 parking spots for what ever, at a GM dealership I worked at for 20 years. Probably have a plow put on this winter for one of the guys to keep him working.

$1.6 per gal. If the pool supply house was any closer I'd walk. But I pay $40 for a 24 of Bud and $52 for a 60 oz of wiskey. And some days i think I go through more of the latter.

What's the longest lenght of hose(s) you've ever run in a line ?????? I've got two 4.5 (=9) gpm's hooked together @ 4000 psi. Water flow won't be an issuse. I've got 1000 + ft of hose. I know I've seen a refferance somewhere in the search but can't remember where. I ran 500ft when I did Union Station in Toronto , BUT How much hose can u run. Someone please remind me, I think there was a mathimatical calculation.....

That's why I like hanging out here. Someone usually knows the answer thanks John

Do test.Starting with a SMALL area. There is nothing to worry about. Other than buying a detergent for such a small area. Eaco Chem says they will supply a small sample pkg. So even that issue is now overcome.

I had my coil welded twice. ( I wouldn't attempt myself). 3 weeks ago it was leaking again. $1800 installed, tax in for a new. I hear you when you said you'd never let that happen again. Some mistakes are more expensive than others.

I've used the ball valve like that quite a few times. It also works great like that in tight spots. A week ago Thursday I was switching back to a split nozzle gun when I got soaked. I had inadvertantly blown the O-ring out of the ball valve's quick connect. It was a wet and humbling experiance.
