Anyone ever have this problem with Gutter Shock?
Camelot posted a question in Residential Pressure Washing
I am a devout Gutter Shock fan...I love the results it gives and I find it relatively easy to work with. That being said, lately I've had some trouble with it. On 2 or 3 houses, there were simply no results. First, I used the same solution I've always used with great success. Then, I made the solution significantly stronger (not quite taking paint off, but close) and tried it...again no results. I always brush it on and xjet it off. When I say no results, I mean NO results. The gutters were heavily streaked when I started, and just as heavily streaked when I finished. I think it's one of two things...the cold weather or the fact that all 3 houses were "starter" houses...Relatively small homes that may have inferior gutters on them? Has anyone ever experienced this or have any ideas on what may be causing it? Thanks for any help. - John -

Mike - definitely due to cold weather...My customer's gutters have been BEAUTIFUL since Spring sprung! Gutter Shock has been awesome since the temps went above 60 degrees (not inlcuding this past week of FREEZING temps). - John -
LMAO @ Rick...very funny...LOL

Mike - The casters on my whirlaway are completely shot...They sell replacements for about $15 each...Try Bob at Pressuretek, he can find just about anything. - John

Hey Joel - What did Eacochem tell you? I'm shocked that NMD80 didn't help. I just used some today on some brick with efflo on it and worked great! I'm curious to hear what they recommended. - John

vines growing on homes ... ???
Camelot replied to itswillist's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Hey John...check out this pic and tell me if this is what you were experiencing. I had the same stuff on hardboard siding with TERRIBLE paint that would strip with the slightest pressure. I had no idea how to get it off and wound up leaving it (very embarassing)... -
Gotta love these slideshows

I use a 36" paint mixer from Home Depot...I think it was like 8 dollars or something. I stick it in my drill and it does a great job. - John

I could do these all day long...took me an hour...I LOVE being in the nice weather, working on decks...life is good. - John

Deck I did today...
Camelot replied to Camelot's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Thanks guys...there is, in fact, no sealer...I just cleaned and brightened it. My ox mix was 2-2lb bags per 5er...I used less than a gallon for the whole deck...The owners wanted to seal it themselves...As far as speed is concerned, a deck this size always takes between an hour and hour and a half, although now I'm self-conscious...LOL...I wouldn't think it should take any longer than that. - John -

Scott - for this one I used Rowlett's RPC 113 Roof Magic and ox as a brightener. Great stuff...It took me an hour not including the 15 minutes I was "shmoozing" with my customer... - John -

Terry - NO HOT WATER, and very little pressure...I used a stripper and some Oxcalic acid as a brightener. Hot water destroys wood, as does too much pressure. Like Steve said, let the chemicals work for you. - John -
permanent marker on driveway ..
Camelot replied to itswillist's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I agree with Micah...spot cleaning surfaces only leads to more problems. Typically, spot cleaning leaves the customer with the same result sort of "in reverse"...instead of purple marker on light concrete, he'll have white spots on dark concrete. Don't do it if you can't clean the whole surface, he won't be happy. -
I do the same and add "Or Current Resident" in case they rent or have moved.

With things being slow, I decided to be more proactive today. I picked a local neighborhood with short driveways and lots of vinyl and started knocking on doors. I walked one block for 30 minutes and got 2 jobs! It's not easy facing so much rejection, but if you have the stomach for it, it's a great way to get your company name and face out there, get some exercise, and maybe make a little money. I picked a neighborhood that I plan to target with post cards when the weather gets nicer. This way, they'll have a little name recognition in the spring. I plan to set aside 1-2 hours a day and do some walking in different neighborhoods. Just thought I'd share for those of you fighting those winter doldrums...

We still work, too, but it's SLOOOOW. I register as a substitute teacher with the local schools and accept assignments if they fit in my schedule. Doesn't pay much, but it keeps me busy and DEFINITELY keeps me young!
