gas or diesel???
One Tough Pressure replied to Clean Cut Solutions LLC's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Diesel is much more expensive to buy than gasoline, but will last longer. Unless you use the machine alot, then gas is the best choice for you. The diesel usually runs at a lower rpm providing more life, and they also have plenty of power. What size machine are you looking at? -
Save gas and diesel,

What's wrong with my surface cleaner?

2500 is enough to spin the bar just fine. If you spin the bar by hand, does it go smoothly? Check the tips for clogs, and take them out to run the surfacer without them and clean out the line of any junk. -

As long as you are paying for it.

Gee Jeff, did you miss this thread last month? I am 35.
-
35 again? That must get boring. Age is only a number, you are only as old as you feel. Happy Birthday Beth, have a blast.

Okay Jon, I did. An F-450 with the 6.4L PSD. Thanks for the idea.

I use the 302° version of this one and have not had any problems with either a 5 gpm or 8gpm. Adjustable Burner Thermostat= And I use these for pressure switches. I have gone thru a couple, but it was not the switch itself, but broken springs and orings. Nothing lasts forever though. Burner Control Switch=

Ron, The power requirements for electric motors the size you are going to need are going to require an awfully large generator. The size of that alone will take up most of your space. Check out Dave Olsen, he uses electirc motors on his set ups. -

One Tough Pressure replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Contractor Help Wanted - Job Leads
Being the only guy I know in your area, you would get the call if anything were to come in from there. It would be up to the customer to qualify you for what they need. I am almost exclusively commercial. Every once in awhile I do some residential, but it is rare. I get calls more often than I like for it, and unless they are willing to wait a little bit, I have to say no. It would be nice to have a few folks that I could send the work to, as it is not enough to start a crew up for on my end. Maybe later, but I have other things brewing that take the time needed for that away. -
Well hi there Ron, how is the window biz? Big Boy is still kickin , but on PWN only.

One Tough Pressure replied to All Clean PCS's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Do you feel it would be better to have two units going seperate directions, or have them both running on the same job to increase production? What is going to tow that second trailer? I have always had hot water, and use it on residential. Many have cold water and do fine. If cold water has served you well and you plan to stay with residential then why add extra expense that is not needed. When I expand, I plan to add another washer to the trailer, and increase production, vs going two seperate ways. However, I enjoy the peace of working alone, and love my work, so I am not sharing any of it just yet. -
I have gotten many calls where the homeowner asks the square footage price, problem is when I ask about how many square feet, they have no clue what they have. May have been the comp, or maybe a homeowner comparing prices. No biggy, they did not get what they wanted so you are fine. Had they pumped you for info, then hung up with a handful then that would be a problem.

So will this truck pull my trailer?

Super Duty F-450
One Tough Pressure replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
We will just say that sticker was under $54,000, I had my F250 trade in, and I had them throw in a security upgrade and a Line X after I settled on my payment. This truck is for me, not employees. When the time comes, I will get another truck to handle them. -

I will check on the fire issue, as I will be at the dealer today for some upgrades. I read a small bit in regards to the navstar deal, and it was basically that Ford will pay retail for all further engines they receive unless something is worked out. -
I have never had good luck with advertising. They always seem to hack my ads and even with refunds and credits, it still makes me look like a blazing fool in print. I have stopped advertising, and only item in print is my cards, which they almost screwed up too.

Who cares what your employees have to say? by Chuck Violand Theodore Roosevelt once described Americans who were loath to question their government or to criticize their president as "unpatriotic, servile, and morally treasonable" — a strong indictment for people who just want to sit back and enjoy the fruits of liberty. He was right. And, the same thing can be said for business. In an article from the January 2004 issue of Harvard Business Review, author and psychoanalyst Manfred F.R. Kets de Vries states, "To be effective, organizations need people with a healthy disrespect for the boss — people…who can engage in active give-and-take." Therein lies the rub. Are you listening? Many entrepreneurs and small business owners don’t welcome "active give-and-take" with their employees. And, they certainly don’t entertain "disrespect". In fact, most chains of command in small businesses have a closer resemblance to obedience charts than they do to organizational charts. All too often when an employee, even a senior manager, approaches the boss with a suggestion or an opposing point of view, the boss digs in his heals, straightens up his back while he shuts down his mind, and says, "Go ahead. I’m listening." But, are we really listening? Are we really open to new ideas or opposing viewpoints from the people who work for us? Or is saying, "My door is always open" just boss-speak for "Fuggedaboudit!" When this is the case, people learn to stop bringing suggestions to you. They figure they’ll stay employed longer if they just keep their mouths shut and do what the boss says. This is tragic because it isolates the boss from the things he needs to see and hear about his business. Open the lines of communication Here are some ideas on how to foster an environment where your people feel free to openly express their opinions with you. Start by realizing that you probably have no clue how you come across to your people. You think you’re "Mr. Open Minded" with your people, while they may think you never listen to them. You think you’re being soft and compassionate, while your people may view you as hard-edged and disinterested in their ideas. Next, ask someone other than an employee how you come across to your people. Most employees will tell you what you want to hear. Former employees will tell you what you should have been hearing. Trusted advisors (spouses, consultants, etc.) will tell you what you need to hear. Seek the opinion of someone who is not on your payroll. And finally… buckle up. There’s a good chance that what you’re about to hear about yourself will send you on a wild emotional ride. That’s all right. You’ll get over it. And, you’ll be a better business leader when you do. Obviously, not every employee is built to walk into your office and tell you exactly what he or she thinks about you. Some are simply too passive. But, good business leaders learn to welcome (or at least tolerate) the opinions of employees who will. Chuck Violand owns Violand Management Consultants, which helps owners of service companies with business planning, sales building and leadership development. He also teaches and hosts a business workshop.

Scott, It was a dream, and one that came true. I was on the back lot looking for a Limited Expedition EL for my wife and stumbled upon this right off the truck. Was your 550 the one with the lift and such? Rich, It has the 6.4, no it is not 4x4, and this is crew cab vs my super cab on the 250. Dodge is ugly, Chevy is loud, FORD RULES -
$2000 hose reel.. wow
One Tough Pressure replied to PressurePros's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Steel Eagle sells stainless hose reels in much larger sizes that are motorized and they do not even list for that amount. They do not have a remote, but I do not see much value in that feature anyway.
