first hot water unit
One Tough Pressure replied to Jim Eme's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
A portable unit needs to be light enough to push around so most generally are 4 gpm. You can put wheels on anything, but have fun moving a larger unit. -
What did you do before becoming a Pw'er?
One Tough Pressure replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Restaurant biz-prep cook to manager 8 years U.S. Army Engineers-3 years Specialized Security-5 years School District Maintenance -10 years Pressure Cleaning-5 Years No, I am not close to 50, I have held 2 jobs for many years, so some things have overlapped. I have compacted the above 31 years into 20 years. -
I finally got around to cleaning my coil today and boy what a mess it was. It looked like burnt motor oil. I used the KO powdered acid to do the deed, but the local dealer said they use Muriatic. I plan to do this more often, as the junk in the coil was tremendous. How often is everyone else cleaning theirs? Mine saw quite a bit of recycled water and I am sure that has a major impact on scaling.

BP Says Workers Killed in Alaska, Oklahoma Accidents (Update3) By Bruce Blythe Nov. 28 (Bloomberg) -- BP Plc, Europe's second-largest oil company, said two contract drilling workers were killed in separate accidents within four days earlier this month in Alaska and Oklahoma. Both workers suffered head injuries ``in the course of normal activities'' during the drilling of wells, Ronnie Chappell, a BP spokesman in Houston, said today in a telephone interview. Investigations into the causes of the deaths are still pending, he said. BP said it is cooperating with government agencies in both states on the probes. One of the workers, killed Nov. 13 at the Milne Point oilfield on Alaska's North Slope, was working outdoors near a parked vehicle when he fell and struck his head, Chappell said. The worker was employed by ASRC Energy Services, an Anchorage- based oilfield service contractor. The second accident happened Nov. 17 following the drilling of a well in eastern Oklahoma. The worker, employed by H2S Safety Plus Inc. of Sulphur, Oklahoma, was cleaning a tank when he was struck in the head by the handheld wand of a high-pressure washer, killing him, Chappell said. Chappell declined to identify the workers.

Coil Cleaning
One Tough Pressure replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I did the deed again but the results were not as good as before. I had a 700 psi difference with pressure before and after the coil. Last time I ran it thru my pw pump for about 1 hour. This time I used a water bed pump and some various forms of acid, and it ran for 6 hours. I did not get nearly as much nasty as I did the first time. What is everyone using for pumps? I see that Dultmeier has an acid pump for coil cleaning, but it says it is 6.3 psi. Is that enough to get thru a 150' coil? What kind of acid is everyone using? I feel the Ko did a better job than my garden variety shelf mix. -
Well this answers all the questions. http://forums.thegrimescene.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5785&d=1159619434

Hot Box and GPM
One Tough Pressure replied to Don M.'s topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I do this and can't see a real big difference. I turn the thermostat up a little bit more than I did with 5 gpm, but I am still not cranking it open for normal cleaning. Depends on the surfacer, but if you change the nozzles to match the 8gp then you should be just fine. If it is a floater, then it may float higher than normal, requiring more force to hold it down. May cause faster swivel wear depending on the brand of the swivel. -
Celeste do you have a pic of the whole litter? I was a little amused to see that one is so dark and the other 2 so light.

Surface Cleaner
One Tough Pressure replied to grizzley's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Walking slower with a large surfacer vs walking fast with a smaller one. Slower yes, but more surface was covered. I feel it is more of a feeling bored walking slow thing rather than getting more work done with a smaller unit. -
Steve, I do not recall the exact numbers, but it was a few hundred psi. I was running 150' of 3/8" and then went to 100' of 1/2" and 50' of 3/8". May not seem like much, but with 8 gpm I could feel the difference as well.

Classic.
-
The only changes I made to run 8gpm was the pump, adjusting the unloader and running 1/2" hose. And not using the skid generator. I cut the belt as well.
-
I did this awhile back. I do not run the skid generator anymore as it would not get enough power when using full pressure. I just run my other generator and plug the burner into it. I get 3000 psi with 1/2" hose. Changing pulley size is asking for trouble. .

Rapid Reel Triton Garden Hose Cart
One Tough Pressure replied to Neil_Asheville's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Steel Eagle makes some hose dollies. They also have some monster reels to go on there too. -

Any other input from folks before I get busy? Have been putting it off in hopes of it clearing itself up. -
And the burner stays on why????
One Tough Pressure replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I checked the pressure switch with a meter and it functions as normal, and is wired right as well. I pulled the cover on the pressure switch with the machine running and the piston is slightly engaging the switch while the machine is in bypass. I opened my steam valve which is set up out of the other high pressure port of the pump, and this disengaged the switch. So while the machine is in normal bypass it creates enough pressure to kick the switch which leads me to believe it is a mechanical problem and my finger points to the unloader. Not sure though, but seems logical on my end. (Read that as always sleep deprived, so anything makes sense) Have to wonder if the engine does not bog and their are no leaks, then where is the water going -
Have I Been Duped
One Tough Pressure replied to PRESSURE PACKED's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Just because a pump is rated for something does not mean they have to advertise it for that. Sell it for what it is and does without the hype. -
Have I Been Duped
One Tough Pressure replied to PRESSURE PACKED's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
But the price was right wasn't it. Thats how they sell for so cheap. I understand the logic that it has a honda engine and a general pump, but that does not say that it is good. Assembly is always something to consider. I have heard many stories of companies tweaking units to give better performance. May not seem too bad, but it is something that makes thing wear out and break faster which ends of costing all the money you saved in the beginning, as well as downtime. -
Have I Been Duped
One Tough Pressure replied to PRESSURE PACKED's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Ratings are at the pump not the hose end. And tweaking a pump is not the best idea in terms of longevity. Sounds like a Pressure Pro machine to me. -
I liked that story so much that I posted it myself... Back in Spetember. http://forums.thegrimescene.com/showthread.php?t=8052&highlight=jumped
