Can you get your Burner to Burn Hotter?
One Tough Pressure replied to 4running's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Of course you can. It requires a high pressure bypass valve to be installed. Same idea as a dula lance, but the valve is installed on the other hp discharge port of the pump and you bypass water to the tank or pump inlet and reduce the amount of water that flows to the coil. To maintain higher pressure, you need to use a smaller orifice nozzle on the gun/surface cleaner. You also need to make sure that your hose/gun are rated for higher temps as well. I do this all the time for that very old gum that just will not give up to regular heat. I have also done this to use my skid to clean the carpet in my house. I must warn you, that it will get very Hot, and may just burn the heck out of you. Gloves will be your best friend. You need to be careful as to how much water you bypass and how hot you crank the temp control. You can easily go to true steam, and if you do and let go of the trigger, you can explode the coil. Steam is meant to be used with an open gun. http://forums.thegrimescene.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2076&d=1118201250 -
ShopVac with pump out capability

On the inlet pipe inside the vacuum you put a leaf vac bag from the Pool section of Home Depot to catch all the sediment so the pump does not get clogged. -
Large Hot Washers

Okay, I want one of these. I just wonder how long I can hang on before I feel like a nap. As fast as it would clean, I would have way to much extra time on my hands. Good luck in me finding a helper that could hang on to 9 gallons for any length of time either. http://www.silvereaglemanufacturing.com/specs/cw/d/1835dcw.htm -
Not always with me, just when I go to the bad neighborhoods. Remington 870 18" in my Mag Light holder and a 9 mm S&W placed very well. At 6'2" and 280, plus my classic "does not play well with others" look, I do not get much trouble. I do not believe in the professional image at night, I go for the ex-con look myself, and apparently it works real good for me.

Awhile back I read an article online regarding using diatomaceous earth and portland cement mixed together to eliminate oil stains on concrete. I have not yet tried it, but can envision that it work well. I would not be surprised if that is what is in these dry clean up products that have come on the market in recent years. Anyone have any experience with the Portland and DE?

That little engine is 48 hp? Maybe I should get a shoe horn and squeeze it into my skid. How loud is it? What rpm is it running at? -

Seems to be a trend that folks gain fame making their own unique unit and then stopping to sell the main stream. Maybe their is just no market for higher priced equipment when most folks are just going for price. Funny how we get upset with the lowballer and how it hurts business, but then we go and look for the best price. -
Who is using vacuum surface cleaners? I know of just a few, but figure that there must be more. I use the Steel Eagle 24" and the 11". On exterior work that requires their use, I can edge with a wand and not have a problem, but on interior work, the sprayback can have some serious bad results. What are other folks doing to eliminate overspray on interior use?

Vacuum Surfacers
One Tough Pressure replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Anthony, Chem-tex.com has a small one for $399.00 that would do the trick and make life much easier. May not go into the 2000+ pressure range, but you don't need that much either. I am not sold on the Mosmatic as I have not seen it in action. When I told the guy what I was going to use his vacuum for, he laughed at me and said why would you want to work that way, when you can recover water in other ways? Funny thing, right after that, he comes out with this Mosmatic surfacer that he "modified" to recover. I will stick with the Steel Eagles. I have a "T" with another gun for edging that I use on occasion with my regular surfacer. I am going to try that set up with the vacuum surfacer and pull both triggers at the same time. Since it will be a three nozzle spray and the vacuum sucking up 2/3's of the water under the cover, it may be the magic trick. -
I am looking for ideas on the best flatwork set up. I currently getting along with 8/3000 psi hot and a 24" surface cleaner. My hoses are on reels, I carry 460 gallons of water as needed, and have more than enough recovery gear to get the job done. I am considering adding another machine to the trailer, to cut time down on each job, and either get more work done, or have more time to sleep. Did I just say sleep? Shame on me, I mean get more work done, sleeping is for sissies. I am torn on a larger trailer, or a nice truck to hold it all. I am also torn on individual machines, or a large engine to run it all. I need to start thinking of ways to keep the noise down, as I have had a problem with a pesky neighbor of a good account that I prefer not to lose. The only option with current equipment is to do it on Saturday morning. I hate working days, making money in the night life is the way to get things done. So lets here what you highly involved commercial flatworkers have to say. I have no concern about residential work, as I hardly do any at all.

Steel Eagle makes 2 floaters that are reasonably priced and work well. They have a 12" and a 16". -

A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, only to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner. " Good morning, " said the young man. "If I could take a couple of minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners." "Go away!" said the old lady. "I haven't got any money!" and she proceeded to close the door. Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed wide open. "Don't be too hasty!" he said. "Not until you have at least seen my demonstration." And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her hallway carpet. "If this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure from your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainder." The old lady stepped back and said, "Well I hope you've got a damned good appetite, because they cut off my electricity this morning."

Elderly woman dies after drinking cleaning chemical
One Tough Pressure posted a topic in Chemicals & Safety
SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- An elderly woman died after drinking a poisonous chemical she thought was juice -- a chemical that never should have been out in the first place. On Aug. 29, a resident at Sunrise Assisted Living in Kenwood ingested a corrosive cleaning product. A report from the attorney general's office said the "cleaner was left unattended in the kitchenette off the main dining room." An employee told News 5 that the woman suffered from dementia and thought she was drinking juice. The employee said the woman became gravely ill. "She had started throwing up blood, and every time she kept talking, she kept throwing up," the employee said. On Sept. 13, the 88-year-old resident died. The state's report said the woman's esophagus and stomach were burned so badly that a feeding tube couldn't be inserted, and she couldn't swallow. As a result, the state cited the assisted living center for failing to keep hazardous materials away from foodstuffs and provide adequate staff to ensure safety of its residents. In a statement, the company that runs the center said, "Sunrise does have policies and procedures that address proper storage of cleaning supplies. Appropriate actions will be taken if we determine these policies were not followed or if their safety and care needs were not met." It’s a story, the employee said, the assisted living center didn't want told. “We’re pretty much trying to keep it hush-hush. They didn't even want us to talk about it inside," the employee said. -

If you were subbing a job and the people you work for were playing some minor games with money and "the check is in the mail" story, would you go after the accounts to make them your own? There is no contract, non-compete or anything else. Just a verbal do this job and get this much? . I have all the contact info for the Property Managers, and know what they are getting paid.

Girl, 2, dies after drinking cleaning chemicals from soda bottle
One Tough Pressure replied to One Tough Pressure's topic in Chemicals & Safety
What makes this even worse is that if they had the chemical in a marked bottle and this happened, may, just maybe the hospital could have done something if they knew what it was. -

Gizmos to help you get along

What type of little add ons for the washer do you have to make things more versatile? I installed a high pressure bypass, to conserve water on some jobs, & make the water hotter for very old and stubborn gum. Have a Suttner Sludge Pump to evacuate water out of low spots quickly without running cords for a sump, or dragging vacuum hose all over. Have the X-Jet, extension pole, surface cleaner sand/soda blaster attachment, spray flex wand and duct spinner. Wands in many sizes, and many different sized nozzles. Sewer jetting gear What else is there that is actually useful and has saved time or made money? Anyone have a Suttner push pull wand? Are they worth owning?
