Hoses break for different reasons some are worth saving some are not. How old is the hose and what type of use does it get? -
Sealing Asphalt Drive
One Tough Pressure replied to MudDuck's question in Residential Pressure Washing
That Henry 532 is a good product. It stays black vs the old stuff that used to turn brown. I did a job 6 years ago and drive by on occasion to see how it looks and it still looks good. Just follow the directions on the can and do not try to skimp. Cold patch asphalt is just that asphalt. The only difference in you doing it, vs a "pro" company is that they use a steam roller to set it in. I have done many pot hole repairs with this stuff and tamped by hand with the 8" X 8" from HD, and it holds up well. The 532 is a slurry type coating and will help seal the cold patch in. $5.00 for a 60 lb bag. So depending on how big this driveway is, it should not be a huge ordeal. Less than $100.00 in material is likely and then the tamper. Just follow the directions and do not skimp. http://www.thegrimescene.com/gallery/files/1/2/heavy_paint_1.jpg http://www.thegrimescene.com/gallery/files/1/2/heavy_paint_2.jpg -
They never would have known until you told everyone. No different than calling in sick to get a three day weekend, sometimes you just need to get away.

Sealing Asphalt Drive
One Tough Pressure replied to MudDuck's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Henry 532 from Home Depot and an applicator. Very simple to do. -
What kind of work do you do? Good looking equipment is not a guarantee of work and sometimes hurts if a potential customers sees it and thinks you charge more due to nice stuff. Cold calling commercial establishments and offering a free demo to show the difference has always been the best for me. Many places have been scammed by someone who claims they will make it look new again only to say after the job is done that certain stains will not come out. This has caused hesitation among many potential customers and the demo shows what the real results will be.

Reclaiming
One Tough Pressure replied to Midwesternmarylander's question in Residential Pressure Washing
It has all been covered here many times over. No point in rehashing unless you have a specific question that needs further elaboration. -
Neglected trash chutes, $50.00 an hour No drains in dumpster room below and filtering that water is pretty nasty.

Almost everything on my trailer is bolted down, only exception is a wand and the hose itself, but extras are cabled locked with a very secure one. No thefts in 6 years, and it gets stored outside year round.

One Tough Pressure replied to suzuki98's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Yes it works, but is expensive if you use a lot. -
If you stayed in touch, then it would not be a vacation. Buy a satellite phone.

Falls and the running of equipment in enclosed areas seems to be on the rise, or just more publicized than before. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/03/nyregion/03fall.html?_r=1&adxnnl=1&ref=nyregion&adxnnlx=1212508803-8qw0soId8X7lDvJH43adCw&oref=slogin -
Fixed-location reclaim solution for van
One Tough Pressure replied to AMDin93103's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
A loaf tank would do way better than a rectangle tank as far as vacuum is concerned. However that is not what they are made for, and custom tanks lie this are not cheap. Just sump the vacuum and then put in a tank as needed. Do you need more vacuum? Do your booms leak? How many booms do you use? Unless you have a different vacuum than what they normally use, then the specs are 101 cfm and 87" of lift or about 6 Hg. -
Fixed-location reclaim solution for van
One Tough Pressure replied to AMDin93103's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
You need to be sure that loaf tank is vacuum rated, or it will collapse. Why not just add a sump to the vacuum and discharge to either a tank or onsite as allowed? Leaaving the vacuum on the van and just running the hose out may work depending on how many feet of hose and how many booms you are using. You can add a vacuum motor and double your specs, or you can replace with larger spec motors. Mine is 224 cfm and 106" lift vs the 202 cfm and 87" of lift. -
Problem with unloader?
One Tough Pressure replied to rj242's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Even the smallest of leaks will cause this. Do you get this while pulling hose? The pulling of the hose will stretch it, and when the unloader senses this, it will unload. It does not take much. -
Steel Eagle problems
One Tough Pressure replied to jakobe's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
No need to change arms before checking tips alone. They do not last long with constant wear. Put a gauge on there and see. -
Damn it Scott, I thought you were going to share bad news. I just about died before reading the whole thing. Care facilities are usually bad news and few make it out alive.

answering client's "environmental" questions
One Tough Pressure replied to soluble solutions's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I did not say you were, I asked if you were. You have never mentioned friendly cleaners before, just caustics. Wasn't sure if you really use potatos or were just fooling around to keep people away from caustic. -

Potatos Ron? I thought everyone knew by now that you use caustic Soda beads. Did you actually change or are you leading us down the wrong path? Just remember that anything is biodegradeable given enough time. -

joe walters wants me to pay!!
One Tough Pressure replied to dlech1825's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Yes, as far as the insurance certificates go, they are available as needed, with no extra fees. My old company was charging $35.00 per, but back then I hardly needed any. I have had a real tough time finding pw ins that can compete with JW, so a $75.00 fee is worth not having to search for a low price. On average, my quotes have been from $1500.00 and up looking elsewhere. Nobody seems to know where to class us and just makes up a price. I have heard stories of people in the midwest and back east getting ins for $600.00 for 1 mil, but they do not cover California. I guess the question is will $75.00 for the year really effect your bottom line? -
State of Affairs - Gas Prices etc
One Tough Pressure replied to PressurePros's topic in Business Topics & Tips
I was browsing through this and seeing the prices had to wonder what is everyone upset about. Then I saw the date. Diesel high is $4.99 here today and the low is $4.20. Unleaded is $3.50 and up for 87 octane. Will it ever stop? Circa 1993 at a US base in Germany, and unleaded was $4.00 per liter, so I guess we are still doing pretty good here. I would hate to see what is is going for over there right now. -
