Both candidates are full of crap. Each promises what they personally will do for us and neigther one mentions that the Congress decides what will be funded and what will not be funded. No funds, no program.

The secretary is probably just following orders. I went to a bank one day to discuss fire extinguishers. The rerceptionist listened to me and then went down the hall into an office. She returned and told me the person I needed to talk to was not in. I looked at her and aked how she liked working for a person who told her to lie for him. She just smiled and I left.

The local business supply house will have generic forms. But the pre-printed forms look more professional. NEBS.com

A Pilot fuel station near here has that set-up. I have seen them pressure washing the concrete when I leave hood jobs. they do a good job. does it take a certification class to learn how to make the fancy designs with the pressure washer? Why don't they reclaim the dirty water. Why do they leave the gum?

Advice on new hot water pressure washer
Douglas Hicks replied to PedroSD's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I started w/a 1,000 PSI electric. I replaced it with an 1800 PSI Honda powered Hot water PW. I thought I died and went to heaven, more cleaning power. Then I upgraded to a 3,000 PSI 5 gpm Delco. Then I started making money. A few months ago, I tried a small machine. 1400 psi, 2.3 gpm. I went back to the 3,000 psi/5 gpm. It gets the job done, faster and with less water than the small 110V PW. Current cost for a similar machine to my Delco, $4700.00. cost because the PW gets the job done, $priceless. I know a lot of hood cleaners like the small machine, but I like to make $100.00 an hour and go home to bed. I get really grouchy if I am up until 4:00 AM and only make $40-$45 per hour. -

That kid could not be as ugly as the baby I saw at Home Cheapo yesterday. Lady had a chimp dressed in baby clothes. I looked to see if Michael Jackson was nearby.

Working outdoors - most and least...
Douglas Hicks replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
Cleaning hoods exposes us to teimperture ranges outdoors of 0° to 95°F. Kitchen temps may be 85°F with high humidity. We also get to see the moon, stars and sometimes that big yellow thing in the sky. I forget what it is called. -
Ants and magnifying glass? I am so glad no one here knows how we used to put gas on the ant nests and light the hill on fire. Then we would stir up the ant hill. Or how we we see how many grasshoppers fit in a gallon jar, filled w/water. About that then Mom would come outside and ask the question "How would you like it if a big giant put you in a jar and filled it with water?" Then she would send us to the garden and pull tomato worms off and step on them. The next non-PC thread will be how to teach your kid to pee on a tree and how they have to bring wood back to the camp fire or they cannot play in the fire.

My first Spontaneous Combustion
Douglas Hicks replied to Palmetto Home and Deck's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I have only seen spontaneous combustion once. The local school gym floor was being refinished. the floor guys went on a lunch break, leaving hte rags in a pile, next to the varnish cans. We had 4 or 5 departments show up on mutual aid. The smoke was visible 30 miles away. We were out so long, the local fuel distributor sent a fuel truck to fuel the fire trucks. Of course the SH I use on hoods is not combustable, but the S/S polish rags get hung up to dry. I also hang the rags used to clean up the fuel spills. When you get a fire extinguihser, at a minumum, get a 2A10BC. Do not get an extinguisher with a plastic valve, get a commercail brand. I like Amerex, as we are a distributor of their products. -
Hose reels,whats good, whats bad
Douglas Hicks replied to MudDuck's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I have purchased 4 reels. The first 2 were Cox, about 9 years ago. One failed last year, the other is still going strong. Next reel will be a Cox. I find the swivels leak, no matter what brand of swivel. the Cox has a better reel hold feature than others. -
I am going on vacation on Saturday. My work is not on schedule, I am about 2 weeks behind on everything except hoods. Hoods are a couple of months behind. But, Dee says we are going on vacation on Saturday. We are going to Thailand for 2 weeks. I don't recall being asked, but I do remember being told. Not being totally stupid, this time I am doing as I am told. To me a real vacation is hunting camp in the fall/winter and hunting deer and elk with my family. I need some advice on how to communicate with my business while we are gone. My cell phone will not work in Thailand, teh phone at RangeRoamer.com is always busy, Mobilrental.com does not seem to have a service in Thailand. I only found two calling card companies, one of which is based in Bermuda. No way do I want to give my credit card info to a company out of the US. Nobel.com calling card company does not respond to phone calls or e-mails. Does anyone have any experience with traveling out of country and still being able to communicate with your business? More important, any reccomentded beers in Thailand? This will be my first time out of the US, not counting California.

mounting pressure washer?
Douglas Hicks replied to bosully76's question in Residential Pressure Washing
A friend in Olympia, Wa used eye-bolts in the floor, tie down straps over the PW and into the eye-bolts. he is satisfied, and it keep the PW in place. I used 1/4 x 4 x 36 straps bolted to the floor. Then had caps made to fit over the axles ( I tossed the wheels). The caps were drilled as were the straps. The straps were tapped and then the caps bolted to the straps. That has held my Delco for approximatly 200,000 miles and 9 years. Fire that customer, he is not what you need. In your contracts, tell what you will do & more importantly, what you will not do. " Any changes that result in extra cost will only be performed upon a signed contract" -
Need Help With New Vehicle Decision!!!
Douglas Hicks replied to Aaron Sullivan's question in The Club House
kale bean tomato mushroom zucchini at kaleauto.com Mr Medberry, if you will click on the above link, you will find they have not only spark plugs for diesels, but also the spark plug wires. They may even have parts for those litle tiny pick-up things, I think they are called rangers. Whoops, a bad link. I expect the outfit is out of business. Probably sold all o the spark plugs and wire sets for the diesel vans, like the Sprinter. -
Quuick books has QB Advisors in most areas. These are people who are experienced in QB and may be willing to help. Rates may vary. Remember, just because the Advisor may be smart, they may not be able to teach. Interview just like you would for a cleaner.

Cell phone etiquette with clients
Douglas Hicks replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
I generlly do not answert the cell unless it is someone I really need to talk to. I get annoyed when I am talking to someone and the other party answers thier phone. That said, I met w/2 sprinkler salemen yesterday. Thier phones were in thier Ford. Mine was in my pocket. My cell rang & it was someone I needed to talk to. One of the salesmen looked at me and told me to answer the cell. He said, It might be someone needing service, you do need to talk to your customer. It was a customer, & I made the sale. By the way, I changed sprinkler suppliers yesterday. We all made some money. -
Ariz. starts its employer sanctions 'experiment'
Douglas Hicks replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Industry News & Events
I like the Edward Abbey solution. Send them home with a 30-30 and a box of shells. Mexico is a government of corruption. That puts the poor at a severe disadvantage. -
I read someplace that cold calls need to be contacted 7 times before giving up. We do not make many cold calls, we seem to stay busy w/o cold calls.

What is this "putting the PW up for the winter" thing?

Very proffesional looking job. I like the squeegee that wipes the screen, ties in with your profesion. But do you only do hi-rise commercial or do you clean residential windows? However, the left hand side of the screen is confusing, too much movement and then the movement leads nowhere. I kept waiting for a message to pop-up, then I got a bit smarter and moved the screen. Change that part and you will attract more of us old folks. Dump the window washing hints, that is what you are selling. So, are you soliciting business on this side of the pond? What are your rates and when can you come by and give me an estimate?

pump still pulsating
Douglas Hicks replied to jnoden's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I thnk Russ has the right idea, an air leak on the intake side of the pump. Titen the hose clamps or replace them. You may have an air leak at the intake fittings also. Is the hose fully on the air fittings? -
Looking for a hood cleaner in Pittsburgh Pa area, anyone here do this?
Douglas Hicks replied to First Impressions's topic in Contractor Help Wanted - Job Leads
If the walls are greasy, why not just demo the plaster and start over w/sheet rock and glue S/S over the sheet rock? If S/S is too expensive can you use FRP? Or you could just overlay the plaster. last time I tried to save lath and plaster, it would have been faster & cheaper to overlay with sheet rock or metal. -

You might try Grease Police. That BBS is made up of mostly greasers.
