  3. Where is spring?

Nice day. About 60°F. Last night, a snow warning of the radio, Ladd Canyon chains required. Just because it is 60°F, does not mean it is time to take off the studded tires.
  4. Battery Not Charging?

Had the same thing happen on Friday. I just got the battery cables out and connected the Batteries together, started the pw and went to work. Shirley, one day this week I will get a chance to take it to the repair shop. If not, the battery cables will be handy.

  6. Why clients need to tell the truth

." His next comment was "Well since you didn't remove it will I be charged the same amount?' Now I couldn't say "yes because you lied to me about how long the stain was there", but I couldn't say "No" because anything less then what I was already charging would be a loss for me. You a better man than I. I have dropped customers because they lied to me.
  7. Now far back can you trace your family tree?

1620, guy from Fance moved to Ireland. Family legend claims Frenchy was concerned about registering his weapons.

  10. Only in Texas!!!!

Two Texas farmers, Jim and Bob, are sitting at their favorite bar, drinking beer. Jim turns to Bob and says, "You know, I'm tired of going through life without an education. Tomorrow I think I'll go to the Community College and sign up for a class investigating who started the *****. Bob turns to Jim and calls him a queer" OK, not funny, I just miss thankyoumarko so much
  11. Enough with the "Robo calls"

I use a whistle, a reall loud whistle. That seems to work, sometimes, kinda. Google has a bunch of contractors who mission in life to to annoy and waste my time. None of them communicate with each other. Even those who have the same number will not take you off their list. I have no problem using the whistle, or holding my phone up to the Kicker speakers in the van, or infront of the horn, or just putting them on hold. And pushing 2 or 9 to be removed does not good at all. And have you ever tried to find an e-mail or phone for google? A waste of time. Google "Spam Google" does not work. I you are on the "Do not call list" and they are calling your business number, you are stuck. The do not call list is only for residential numbers. 888.382.1222
  12. Ok, I did not make that up, I stole it from the Fire Protection Contractor magazine. But I wanted to share that with those here. Write it on the wall above your desk, and on your estimating clipboard.
  13. There are not bad jobs; just a bad price

Next time you make $300.00 an hour, think about the time you spend learning your trade, time working on your equipment, time making estimates, time collecting bad debts. Puts everything in perspective doesn't it?
  14. There are not bad jobs; just a bad price

Don't be afraid to ask for 10% more than the going rate. Give better service, and ask for a referal. My closing on referals is about 90%. Your satisfied customer is your best salesperson
  15. Yeah, what that guy said. I bought my third PW from him in 1999. It finally failed and was replaced in Dec. That machine made me over One Million Dollars during its life. Robert was always good for advice. Once the PW was not building pressure, I called him from the job. He told me to replace the feed hose, or at the least, tighten the hose clamps. I knew, just knew, he was wrong. After an hour of ignoring what I was told, I replaced the hose. He diagnosed the problem correctly from his desk. I finally met him in person at an IKECA meeting. He is truly an amazing person, and an outstanding person.
  16. Safety Equip. where to buy?

4674 pages in the new catalog I got today. Page 1849, foamers
  17. Safety Equip. where to buy?

Grainger also keeps record of what you buy. I recently had a customer call me about needing a new compressor. I contacted Grainger, the compressor was ordered, shipped and all I need to do is look at the install done by my customers maintanance man. I will make a few bucks, for very little effort. Grainger is not the cheapest, but the service is very good. They also have great customer service when you need parts for the equipment you buy. I keep a catalog in the van, one in the shop and one in the office.
  18. Non Compete Agreement Free Resource

if you want a non-compete areement, get your lawyer to write one specifacally for your business, meeting your states laws. that non-compete, as written does not meet Oregon requirments.
  19. Downstream Injectors

I flush using 3 to 5 gallons of warm water. Even then, I make sure I have a coupleof extras in the trailer.
  20. Downstream Injectors

Are you flushing when done working?
  21. Burner fuel pump troubleshooting.

I fixed my pw, got a new one. The old one has had the engine, pump, coil and burner removed. The rest has been cut up and put in the recycle bin.
  22. Venting Burner Through the Roof?

I ran my RK 47 from Delco for 13 years. The duct was fastened to the shroud around the coil, not like a gas water heater or furnace. Yesterday, we installed the new RK 47 from Powerwash.net. I did make 2 changes. The plumbing is different, so the connections have been changed. And we left the wheels on, and used ratchet straps to hold the pw into place. Today, we will finish the job and start the pw up and spray some water. Because the burner is slightly different, I do not think we can drain the coil, so we may use an antifreeze tank and run antifreeze through the pump, coil and hoses. Then, when the temp gets above 25, it will be time to go to work. Any one want to buy a used PW?
  23. Who's still here on TGS from it first year in 2003?

April 5, 2003. Prior to TGS, there was Delco's site, I think that may have been the first.
  24. Venting Burner Through the Roof?

To expand on Michael's post, if you cannot use a straight exhaust, use 45° bends and not 90° bends. there is a lot more static pressure buildup with a 90°. I favor the adjustable bends instead of fixed bends. When you are done, put sheet metal screws into the seams and connections. Use black pipe, galvanized gives off poison fumes when heated.
  25. Venting Burner Through the Roof?

Do a search for "vent, roof" There are lot's of posts on your question. I vented through the roof of my step van and now the trailer. I used Metalbestos for the roof pentration. What ever the size of the burner outlet, do not go smaller. I am not sure B Vent is large enough.
