What did you do before becoming a Pw'er?
FCPWLLC replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Worked with Grandfather when I was young and coming up. He built Houses. Not much that I can't do in that area. 2 year Specialized Associates Degree in Business. College was free... Went on Running Scholarship. Used to be good at it. LOL Ran Marathons and every 10k I could fit into a schedule. Worked for a Tree Service... Became Foreman and helped my Friend grow that Business hugely. Started A Lawn Service... Built Customer Base and Sold that Business Last Year. Had set-back with a Divorce and Bankruptcy. (More a refusal to pay her bills rather than ability to pay) Sold cars in the winter months when first started Pressure Cleaning Business. Now, don't need to work in winter months due to starting a Cleaning Service that has grown very well without much marketing or input. Amazing word of mouth industry. Currently taking private classes for Public Speaking from a Professor at UK. Next step, Real Estate Investing. (Was set back on this with that Divorce and Bankruptcy) This is where the true wealth building begins. Pressure Cleaning is just going to be the tool to help launch it. -
TMI !!!! Got to see one go #1 and #2. LOL

Looks like 2 Gazzelles there now playing/fighting on now.

I have found Soddium Hypochlorite to do better on these stains after the Surface cleaner. Kind of just spray down the whole area after the pressure cleaning and it brightens the concrete up and takes care of theose stains.

Leasing is the way to go. The Tax benefits outweigh the interest. Yes you can take a 179 deduction but won't be able to depriciate the item in the future years. The cash would be better spent on Marketing/image. Also, handled right, there are investments that you could make with that money that would also offset the interest. It's nice to have the cash available to take advantage of opportunities that knock. Nothing worse than finding a great deal on a low mileage truck but no cash on hand. Let the equipment pay the payments. Leasing is yet another form of Making money with OPM (other peoples money)

Top 5 things you did for your business were...?
FCPWLLC replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
1. Specialized... No more wood. Vinyl and Roofs 95% I actively pursue the work that has the highest profit margins. 2. Determined what it really is that I sell. Customer Service. Once you figure out what it is you're really selling, you begin to understand who your market is so that you can target them. I no longer sell pressure cleaning. There isn't anymore room for Pressure Cleaners. But lots of demand for Good dependable, trustworthy Customer Service providers. 3. Placed more focus on Internet type marketing. Much better close ratio on internet leads and higher margins. 4. Business becomes better when I spread the love. Paying help well and not trying to be cheap when buying the services that I need. I used to try and print my own stuff. Design my own cards etc. Now, with help from Pros like KBK, Image has been improved greatly. 5. Divorce from my ex-wife. Negative attitude about being self employed. Surrounded myself with positive people that support what I want to do. I guess you could say that the BBS help in this area. -
Concerning pricing and selling..... "If you don't ask for it, you won't get it"

I like my Turkey cooked by someone else. LOL

That thing has another season left.... I know some lowballers here that would love to have it. LOL Balaz... Did you get a tank yet?

I agree with Ken on this. I can't make my numbers work when trying to compare to the cost of just replacing the Shutters (including Labor) I have a hard time believing that I can sell this at the same profit margin that I see with simple cleanings. Wouldn't want to expend resources toward marketing a service that has a low profit margin. Would be a better use of time, energy and money to market just House washes. Let the home owners restore or find a handyman that works on lower profit margins have the work.

Gas is the only way to go. Too much time rolling up cords and fighting them throughout the job. Time is money.

I need a new leafblower - recommendations?
FCPWLLC replied to PressurePros's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Ken, as you know, I ran a tree service before this Pressure washing stuff. We have used all the blowers and chainsaws. Blowers-Stihl are the hardest to tear up. Easy to start. They just plain work. -
5.6 gpm gear drive. What is your opinion of these gear drive units?
FCPWLLC replied to POWERMEN INC's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Now with that money you made on those condos, you can buy a bigger engine to get the full potential out of that pump. I have a source for 15 hp Kohler's for $475. Let me know if you want to get one. -
Is a kohler engine as good as a Honda in 13 hp?
FCPWLLC replied to POWERMEN INC's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I prefer a Kohler over the 13 hp honda, but only the 15 hp+. The kohler 15 hp+ all have oil filter where the 13 hp honda does not. I like the filter. And my 15's all start as easy as the hondas. -
Get with this guy. He does all my lettering. Did my F450 in that pic for $40. Same for my Chevy. Great Prices. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170036519841&rd=1&rd=1

She said that they have always endorsed bleach and TSP. I think that date is just perhaps an updated Tech Bulletin. Maybe, since recently, they started getting calls concerning these other "cleaners", they saw a need to put out a Bulletin. Anyhow, she was very helpful and very straight forward about never recommending any pressure or any other chemical.

Chris, You may want to add this link to your site also. I got this from GAF. They sent me the pdf and link after I spoke with them on the phone. I let them know that there are people claiming that the use of bleach on thier shingles will void the warranty. This is NOT the case and is only a ruse to try and sell a "Roof Cleaner" http://www.gaf.com/Content/Documents/22710.pdf
-
Great Ant. The rust removal is cool, but your video is cooler. They are getting better.
-
FYI for anyone that has read anywhere that GAF will void the warranty of thier shingles if bleach is used. The only place you will see this statement is where a chem seller is trying to sell you thier "Roof Cleaner". I just got off the phone with GAF. They sent to me thier technical Bullietin. Here is the link. http://www.gaf.com/Content/Documents/22710.pdf They only endorse the use of bleach-TSP and Rinsing.

I finally got that blurry header out of here. Had Keith design a new header. I got it put in place and changed some colors on the site to better compliment the fine header by Keith. Much Kudos to KBKGraphx. Quick and Professional. Check it out here.... http://www.firstchoicepowerwashing.com

Great stuff in this thread. Ken, Have you found a place in your marketing for that Mailer I sent to you? I'd like to see any modifications you might make. Better yet, I'd like a peek at the message you use on the back side. -
Thanks guys.

He has some good Marketing Blogs also. Not original stuff, but a good collection neverthless. http://www.marketingxcellence.blogspot.com/
