  1. Leasing is the way to go. The Tax benefits outweigh the interest. Yes you can take a 179 deduction but won't be able to depriciate the item in the future years.

The cash would be better spent on Marketing/image. Also, handled right, there are investments that you could make with that money that would also offset the interest. It's nice to have the cash available to take advantage of opportunities that knock. Nothing worse than finding a great deal on a low mileage truck but no cash on hand.

Let the equipment pay the payments. Leasing is yet another form of Making money with OPM (other peoples money)

  2. 1. Specialized... No more wood. Vinyl and Roofs 95% I actively pursue the work that has the highest profit margins.

    2. Determined what it really is that I sell. Customer Service. Once you figure out what it is you're really selling, you begin to understand who your market is so that you can target them. I no longer sell pressure cleaning. There isn't anymore room for Pressure Cleaners. But lots of demand for Good dependable, trustworthy Customer Service providers.

    3. Placed more focus on Internet type marketing. Much better close ratio on internet leads and higher margins.

    4. Business becomes better when I spread the love. Paying help well and not trying to be cheap when buying the services that I need. I used to try and print my own stuff. Design my own cards etc. Now, with help from Pros like KBK, Image has been improved greatly.

    5. Divorce from my ex-wife. Negative attitude about being self employed. Surrounded myself with positive people that support what I want to do. I guess you could say that the BBS help in this area.

  3. I agree with Ken on this. I can't make my numbers work when trying to compare to the cost of just replacing the Shutters (including Labor) I have a hard time believing that I can sell this at the same profit margin that I see with simple cleanings. Wouldn't want to expend resources toward marketing a service that has a low profit margin. Would be a better use of time, energy and money to market just House washes. Let the home owners restore or find a handyman that works on lower profit margins have the work.

  4. What was GAF's position before they came out with this PDF? The PDF on your link is dated 1/03/06, could they have changed their position on the use of bleach?

She said that they have always endorsed bleach and TSP. I think that date is just perhaps an updated Tech Bulletin. Maybe, since recently, they started getting calls concerning these other "cleaners", they saw a need to put out a Bulletin.

Anyhow, she was very helpful and very straight forward about never recommending any pressure or any other chemical.

  5. Show Him This http://www.asphaltroofing.org/pdf/tb_217.pdf

This is the ARMA PDF file Beth was referring to when she did her research.

    Chris

Chris, You may want to add this link to your site also. I got this from GAF. They sent me the pdf and link after I spoke with them on the phone. I let them know that there are people claiming that the use of bleach on thier shingles will void the warranty. This is NOT the case and is only a ruse to try and sell a "Roof Cleaner"

  6. A whole lot of references to PWNA and Sunbrite on there. I have signed up and posted a few times. Beth, you are probably correct. Looks like a vendor is involved in some way. Which is not a problem unless it is hidden and affects the information provided. There is some sloppy info out on the internet that has been placed by sellers pushing thier goods. That, in my opinion, is not good for the pressure cleaning industry.
