  1. Hey Michael, do any decks yet?

I have been doing well with my closing ratio this year.... So far 80% ( I even raised prices) the 20% I have lost have ALL been wood bids.

    No wood yet this year.

My price to do wood is high to make it worth my time and I can't compete with the "water only" blasters.

Correction.... I did a quick Deck wash for the housing Authority for my contact over there that I have yet to see a check for.

  2. Got 7 jobs lined up for next week and getting a couple calls each day. Got 3 calls back to back Friday from people seeing the Truck and Trailer going down the road. Yesterday, did a Vinyl House Wash (did 2 estimates for neighbors while there) and a Roof Clean. Might get a shot at the flat work for the Motorcycle dealer I bought my Bike from.

Did Nothing but ride today and get a good amount of Sun. Spraying water tomorrow though.

Hope everyone meets their goals this year.

  3. I'd die without a bike, I'm glad to hear somebody has a new scoot, whenever I hear it.

I just wish I had time to work on an antique, they are my real two-wheel love. Check these sites for some of the coolest scoots/scooter guys ever.

Bill, you gotta let me know what you think after you have had the bike a while, I don't know anybody with one of the new Sporties. They look really good.

Mike, that Bonnie America is a cool ride, too. I thought of buying one a while back, but events intervened. Have you ridden one yet?

There are lots of bike guys here, I've noticed. Cool folks. Good choice, Bill.

Scott, I went and picked one up today.... I love it. Got a sweet deal on a Brand New 2006 off the show room. Now, we really do need to get a ride planned.

  4. a lot of you guys have helpers or send 2 men to do jobs that 1 man can easily do. why do you do this? respond honestly and this will be a great thread for everyone to learn from.

Helps lend credibility to you company image also. Company versus A "Guy" with a pressure washer. I too like having a helper to speed thing up and to catch something I might miss or keep the hoses from pulling up all the landscape lighting. On roofs, it is a safety thing.

  5. Anyone have a CDL license and does it cost much then a regular license..I'm debating on setting up another rig with a truck with airbrakes and of course a CDL license will be needed.

Scott Millen can probably be helpful on this question. I looked into getting a Class B CDL at one time. It was only going to cost a few Hundred $$ to take the test etc.

  6. Just wondering how you can get a 3 story with a down stream?

With low pressure I wondering how you get it that high??

What is the right tip? 0 Degree? I have 7.5gpm.

You could probably shoot that high with a 0040 tip. Flow is what will get you there.

IMO Downstreaming on Vinyl is safer because it is a lower pressure wash. On other sturdier surfaces, like brick, Hardiboard etc. x-jet may be fine.

X-jets are useful for when you have bought a weak, watered down chem and need to get it on stronger.

  7. I had a blast and am working on many of the new things I learned from that Roundtable. It would have been nice to get the FREE Drum Kit of Emulsifier Plus (hint hint) but I guess I will have to save all my pennies and hopefully one day have enough money to get to try it out. I heard it is good stuff but I will not know for a while. Oh Well..........Just kidding. It would be cool though.

I talked with Paul and he said that he will be sending everybody thier drum kits.

  8. My downstreamer quit working the other week. Took it apart, the spring was still good, as was the stainless ball. Put it back together again, and it still wouldn't draw the chemical. So I put on an extra I had, brand new out of the package, and it still won't work. Took the hose down from 200 to 50 feet, and it wouldn't draw. Any ideas as to what could be going on here? I use a dual lance set up with a soap quick connect at the end. I'm really undecided as to what I like best, I love not carrying around 5 gallons of chemical and only having one hose, but I also love the fact that the x-jet has never failed me once.

Are you using a new trigger gun? Some guns have a smaller oriffice.

  9. It was way too cool to meet you guys, and thanks for the chance to sit and talk with, and listen-in as people with much more business sense than I get to discussing.

I learned so much this weekend that I feel dangerously invincible. I think if I learn one more thing this month, I may burst something in my skull.:lgsick:

    Michael, what'd you buy?

  10. Don,

Thanks for the event and inviting me to speak. I had a blast. It was so cool meeting Mr. Millen. Nothing like his posts. He even put a fire under my ass with that Infiniti. I went out and bought a new truck yesterday. LOL

The after hours meetings were awsome. Still recovering from the 4:30 am bed time. Jarrod, Scott and I were on a roll that night.

Actually considering bringing wood restore back this year after talking to Jarrod.

  11. Web presence is a must to reach customers that other forms are not reaching. If you are the only guy in your area with a site, you amy be the only one to get a call. If a consumer only uses web searches to buy services, you are in a no bib position if you are the only contractor they find.

I LOVE internet based leads..... Higher close rates and higher margins. Most economical form of advertising that I do.

  12. Way I see things is that with planning and discipline, a guy can prosper in any kind of economy. Save while things are good so that you can take advantage of opportunities when things are slow. I personally like it when it is a buyers market for property. Bad for the folks that over-extended themselves but great for the guy that has a bank-roll ready to buy at a lower price.

Just like Hurricanes... Bad for the folks that didn't have insurance or rainy-day fund, but great for Storm Chasers or home remodlers. For every bad there is a good. Just depends on how a person has planned.

I see some sweet Real Estate deals comming soon and have been putting away for it. pessimists will cry, while optimists will buy.

  13. Other business ventures, get a job, painting like Dan mentioned. PressurePros just about pays my salary in the winter, which ain't sayin' much. Make sure you save and invst your money as you make it. Don't be an equipment junky.

Equipment junky. I like that one. LOL

Our Cleaning sevice gets us through the winters and through my equipment habit.

  14. Another way to combat lowballers is by reaching customers that the lowballer doesn't or can't reach. Of the internet based leads I recieve, a majority are no compete bids. They searched and found me either prominently or solely. Direct marketing can do this also. If your prospect has only recieved a post card form you and the lowballer hasn't happened to knock on thier door, you have eliminated a low-balling situation.

  15. Yea but whats the strongest rate it can shoot the chemical up. The 7-1's don't work for me which is the reason I like the X-jet so much.

What are you cleaning? What chem are you using? Downstreaming, for me, always gets enough chem on. The only time I use x-jet is flat work soaping/oxalic etc.. Concrete buildings too. If your not cleaning Vinyl then I see why the x-jet works better.

Maybe your chems aren't strong enough in the first place. Do you buy from a distributor that pushes x-jets in order to be more profitable on thier dilluted chems?

Sometimes overlooked..... The greatest benefit to downstreaming house washes is the marketing advantage of "We never use more that 40 psi on your Vinyl" Lower pressure is much safer on vinyl.
