Curb Appeal 14 Report post Posted August 15, 2007 I just got this Kohler engine yesterday and can't get it to start. I bought it off ebay (for a song) and the ad said that it ran and started fine but I can't get the starter to turn. The solenoid throws the gear out but it does not turn. I've included links to a couple of videos of my tests. Take a look and tell me what you think. Is this starter shot? Russ Johnson 141 Report post Posted August 15, 2007 Could be the motor or the solenoid. The solenoid serves 2 purposes...engage the bendix into the flywheel and make connection for the starter motor. The first thing I would do would be to hook the positive cable directly to the power lead in to the motor and see if it spins. If it does...motor fine, solenoid not.
