Mark Williamson 14 Report post Posted February 24, 2004 What's the most gpm and psi I can get from a 16 hp engine with out hurting it?
One Tough Pressure 580 Report post Posted February 24, 2004 What kind of pump is gonna play a big factor. I asked a while back about increasing gpm. Here is a link for the responses.http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1274
Mark Williamson 14 Report post Posted February 24, 2004 I know how to get more gpm, I want to know will my 16hp get it there with out hurting the engine.
One Tough Pressure 580 Report post Posted February 24, 2004 From what you have written, I am guessing that you want to over rev the engine itself. If not, then you would run it at full rpm and speed up the pump. Which one do you want to do?
Paul B. 523 Report post Posted February 24, 2004 Which do you want - higher PSI or higher GPM. Increasing max. PSI will reduce your GPM capability and increasing GPM will reduce your max. PSI capability.
Mark Williamson 14 Report post Posted February 25, 2004 I would like to get more gpm. I have a 16hp 4.8 at 3000psi. I 'm not sure if I put a bigger pump on the p/w the engine will have enough power. Lets say 6 gpm at 3500 psi pump. I guess both!
Paul B. 523 Report post Posted February 25, 2004 6 GPM and 3500 psi requires a 20HP drive source. (PSI x GPM) divided by 1100 = HP 16HP motor running a 6 GPM pump will technically give you a max. of 2900 psi. In reality, it will be somewhat less when you add moment of inertias and friction for your drive components.
Mark Williamson 14 Report post Posted February 25, 2004 I guess I'm at my max with 4.8 at 3000 psi with the 16hp engine.
Paul B. 523 Report post Posted February 25, 2004 Theoretically you have almost 3HP to spare.
