CedarQuest 14 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 I live in the Chicago area, and have a 4-year old Cedar Deck. First, I used a Behr product on it which peeled after 9 months. Hired someone to sand, strip deck and applied Cabot ATO which looked great, but faded after 18 months, as expected. Re-applied Cabot ATO and it is fading again after 18 months. I am looking for something which will last longer than Cabot ATO. Based on reading some information from pros on the internet, I have decided on sealing the deck with Rymar Xtreme Weather which is manufactured in Wisconsin, and available locally. (Other recommendations are welcome) I need advice on a cleaner and neutralizer that I can use prior to applying Rymar. I have read that Restore-A-Deck is good, and have attempted to contact them without success. Also, I prefer to purchase products locally provided the products are high quality and will work for my application. I have access to Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, as well as other suppliers in the Chicago area. Any advice would be appreciated. Beth n Rod 1,279 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 Hi! Well, since the formula changes in 2005, the ATO is not as good as it once was. Lots of oils have been effected. If you are used to working with it, and can get used to the likespan, keep with it. You might also try Sikkens SRD (NOT DEK). We use WoodTux. We get it from Deck Stains Cleaners Sealers Staining Decks Wood Decking Sealing Concrete Paver Restoration and you can get your cleaners there also. Get the EFC-38 and the Citralic to clean and neutralize with. Another good choice is TWP. They sell that also. Beth
Celeste 341 Report post Posted April 28, 2008 Ditto to what Beth said :) We just put Woodrich Stain & Seal on a new Cedar deck after prepping with EFC-38/Citralic. We have also applied Wood Tux to cedar pickets on a second project which was prepped with HD-80/Citralic.
