svp07 14 Report post Posted March 30, 2004 Can anyone direct me to some information about proportioning chemicals? i am a little confused... If it says 4-1, h2o-chem annd then further dilute 25-1 is that 100-1 proportioning? What are some of you using to measure dry chemicals by weight...like when it says add 1 pound of whatever. Thanks for the help.

0 John T 744 Report post Posted March 30, 2004 I also carry a scale in my trailer. Also going from 4-1 to 25-1 that just means to add more water to dilute to get to 25-1 which is the same as 100-4 etc. But the smallest common denominator if I remember correctly is 25-1. Which is also the same as 12.5-.5 etc.etc.etc.
0 svp07 14 Report post Posted March 30, 2004 Thanks John, I was refering to a solution that said to pre-dilute to 4-1 and then proportion 25-1 through an injector.....does that make it a 100 to 1 dilution. I was just trying to figure this out to make small batches for pump sprayer application. can anyone recommend a scale to use and a place of purchase? Thanks, Steve
0 Jack Kramer 15 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 Last year I bought a scale to weight HD-80 and Oxcilic acid. I carefully weighted 8 ounces of each as well as several other dry chemicals. To my surprise each of the dry chemicals weighed ended up being 1 Cup. I returned the scale and now use a measuring cup.
0 Paul B. 523 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 Many chemicals, such as HD-80, EFC-38 and Citralic (fortunately) are same in weight as in liquid volume (1 dry oz = 1 liquid oz). However this is not always the case and you should always weigh your first batch after opening your container. I find the Sunbeam SP5 digital scale serves a nice double function for weighing letters and packages (0.1 oz. increments, up to 5 lbs.) along with an occasional chemical weigh-in. The SP5, or a similar model can be found at an Office Max, Office Depot, or Staples for about $30.
