Do you think this roof needs cleaning?

Recommended Posts

This residence was constructed in 2000. The roof was never washed and to me it doesn't seem that bad. I don't see any streaks but was wondering if pros sometimes clean them after almost 10 years have elapsed to "brighten" the appearance at all, basically a light soft washing with some chems but nothing too crazy.

Would you go with the common bleach, dawn and water mix that appears to be used a lot around here or something else?

If its not dirty, don't clean it. Considering all of the bad things that could happen, why take the risk? If I were called to give an estimate on this roof, I would recommend against it.

Those are newer shingles and you probably have another 5 years or there abouts on them before they start showing signs of streaking. I am willing to bet they are algae resistant shingles but by no means does this mean algae proof. Eventually you may get algae but you don't need to clean it until this happens. Some roofs for some unexplained reason do not get algae streaks.
