2 inch 3/4 interior hardwood flooring

Looking to see what people have used in the past to stain their interior hardwood flooring in the house. I would like to use a water based product so the water based poly can sit well on top. Any suggestions?

Is there a finish on there now? Is it a new but unfinished installation? Or is this a refinishing project?
