CCPC 26 Report post Posted August 25, 2004 Is it safe to run a shurflo pump dry? I want to be able to clear about two hundred feet of chem line after each use, but I am afraid it might damage the pump. this is, of course, after running water through the pump and the line. I contacted Shurflo about this question, but the lady I talked to didn't sould like she knew what she was talking about.
RyanH 14 Report post Posted August 26, 2004 I've used mine on many occasions to clear 100' of line and haven't had any problem. If you do it often and are worried about the seals wearing out why not put a feedback loop and purge line in your setup near the pump so with the twist of a few valves you can pump stuff back through your line into your source (like chemical tank). CCPC 26 Report post Posted August 26, 2004 Thanks Ryan, I never thought of that method.
Aplus 525 Report post Posted August 27, 2004 Not a problem. Keep doing what you're doing. Flushing with clear water and a little dry pumping is ok.
