Douglas Hicks 128 Report post Posted June 17, 2012 I thought I posted this already, but maybe not. I needed a filter for my Vanguard 16 HP V-twin. The counterman told be there are 3 different lengths. I told him I wanted the longest one. He replied the longer filter had a different relief valve than the shorter lengths. Sounds like bull to me. Does anyone know if the other, shorter filters have different relief valves?
mick m 19 Report post Posted June 17, 2012 I'e never heard of them with relief valves. I've got a 18hp v twin & have always used the short one's.
Douglas Hicks 128 Report post Posted June 17, 2012 If the filter gets plugged with crap, the relief valve opens and the engine still gets oil pumped to the bearings and other important engine parts. Different engines require different pressures and amounts of oil circulating.
